Car setup

Front wing

Maximum downforce once again, as understeer could prove costly with the walls so close.

Rear wing
The Singapore streets reward good levels of downforce and efficient torque management. The tight confines of Marina Bay require a relatively high downforce set-up with most of the corners being low and medium speed.

Suspension
An all-round soft car is the optimum set-up for Marina Bay, as drivers have to ride the kerbs and generally be aggressive on the street circuit. The vehicle dynamics are an essential ingredient as the car has to be agile enough to manage some of the severe kerbs, particularly around the turn 1-4 section and at Raffles Avenue.

Brakes
The circuit is tough on brake wear due to the relentless nature of the track and also because this is one of the longest Grand Prix of the year. The calipers, discs and pads all require close attention on cooling as they get little rest during a lap.

Power Unit
The ICE and turbo are given an easy time at Singapore. The Energy Store and MGU-K, however, are really put through their paces. Each braking event is long and hard, particularly around the ¡®hotel¡¯ section through the grandstands, where the K will be able to recover enough energy to keep the battery at a relatively high level of charge throughout the lap. In contrast, the MGU-H is used a little less as the short straights between the corners do not really offer ample time for the exhaust to develop a steady flow.
These short bursts of power naturally require good torque response and driveability but they also bring fuel consumption well up. In fact we will use the largest amount of fuel per lap over the season here and we will be right on the limit of the 100kg permitted. To put this in context, last year we used 150kg of fuel ¨C over 30% more. Here, more than anywhere else, shows the advances made in efficiency.

Quick factsRace distance: 61 laps (308.828km/189.541 miles)
Start time: 20:00 (local)/12:00 (GMT)
Circuit length: 5.065km/3.148 miles
Lap record: Sebastian Vettel (Red Bull RB9) 1m48.574s (167.574km/h)
Track abrasiveness: Low. The main issue for the cars is the bumpy asphalt
Pirelli tyre choice: Supersoft (Option)/Soft (prime), a combination last used in Germany
2013 winning strategy: Two stops
Fuel consumption: High ¨C only 45 per cent of the lap is spent at full throttle, but the stop-start nature of the track makes it one of the least fuel-efficient races of the season
Brakewear: High. There are some high-speed stretches, and most of the corners are slow
DRS zones: Two ¨C one on the start-finish straight and the other on the approach to Turn 7
Turbo effect: High ¨C due to lots of hard acceleration from low speed
Safety Car likelihood: High ¨C there has been at least one Safety Car period every year
Grid Advantage: The racing line is on the right, giving that side of the track a slight advantage
Pitlane time: 20s

They probably focus more on Q setup because that has been their weakness for last couple of seasons. Last year they repeated they needed better Q pace all season.

By being first in P1 Fer is rehearsing the emotions of being first so that one day, when he's leading a race with 4 laps to go , he doesn't have a nervous breakdown , stop the car and wander around the track asking "Where am I? who am I? Whose car is this?":-??

1st in FP1 translates to 4/5th during quali... so a podium is possible. Especially if the merc duo start fighting.

Dont think we have ever topped FP this season. So it is not all speed from running on fumes. I think the car would be decent on this track.

WOW....the look on Andreea Stella's face, Fernando's race engineer is PRICELESS....

i know this is only FREE practice, and DON"T even want to get ANY of my hopes up because the MERC's are, as they've always been on friday....sandbagging...

but DAMN, i miss those days when the Ferrari was on top on Free practices, and the pace they were showing was REAL and continued into QUALI and RACE....those were the days my fellow Ferrari FANS..

let's all hope those will be coming back to us in the near future....and that is 2015

trust me, i TOO am hoping that whatever ALO showed today was real....but we all know taht is NOT; no one can turn around a MULE into a prancing horse in 2 weeks...NO ONE

this is F1, you know how hard it is to recover ONE second??....let alone 2 SECONDS that we have to the Mercs...

but hey it was good for the show and fans....

on the REAL side, i think come saturday we'll QUALI somewhere around P4 or P5....with Fernando....with Kimi, that is another story

I promised myself not to watch FP after all these glory runs week in week out. Yet here I'm waiting for FP2 in front of the tele having the slightest hope of ferrari sandbagging......which I want to believe but doesn't seem to be the case.

I think we've got the 3rd fastest car but I wouldn't write off williams. They tend to gain time as the weekend progresses. Plus redbull might match the Mercs. But if Vettel gets a penalty that should help.

Nevertheless hoping for atleast one of our guys to be on the podium.

Wow! It's good to know that Maduro is not a socialist dictator. And, it really warms my heart to know that a country where common folk can't buy toilet paper, can still find the millions of Bolivars required to help a young party member follow his dream of crushing the capitalist pigs who run F1. BTW, in an article dated Sept 20, 2014, "The Economist" calls Venezuela, "Probably the world’s worst-managed economy", largely because PDVSA has figured out how to lose money while being the world's 10th largest oil exporter. Go Pastor!!!

Now, if Putin can just figure out how to get the young Venezuelan on the podium in Sochi....

it is a big fun to watch how Alonso can drive this car and how fast he can react ... especially when he caught the rear of the car in the final curve where you driver almost 200km/h
