Nothing pathetic about our performance actually. I swear Alonso would be 100% on the podium today without the safety car, Ric had absolutely no answer to Alonso's pace. P2 was also looking very good.

Ottimo lavoro da tutti i team oggi, pit-stop molto veloce. :clap

SC really robbed us of podium, possible 2nd. But hey thats how it goes sometimes. Fernando, and the team deserved that podium. Never mind, 5 races left.

Lost a deserved podium place because of the SC, but nonetheless, great job by Fernando & our pit wall.
Ferrari strategy was poor, Red Bull decided not to pit and eventually was the right choice. Both Fernando and Kimi lost places because of it. Let's not forget that Massa past Kimi because the pit crew was 1 second slower than Williams on that turn. Fernando had a great race, hats of to him ...

One positive thing about this weekend is the pace of the car, which has been pretty good.

Did you watch a different race? Lack of pace was the reason Alonso could not overtake the bulls with 15 laps fresher tires.

There was nothing else we could do about the safety car. We still had to do one more stop whatever happened, and it would have been worse to do it after the safety car as the field would have been bunched up and you would lose a whole bunch of places. But right after the safety car came out, the race gap at that point was still there as the field hasn't bunched up yet, and so pitting at that moment lost us the least amount of places.

It was purely bad luck with the SC timing.

I honestly thought Alonso will snatch the podium even after the SC came. Alonso was on newer tires, Ricciardo and Vettel were both on old tyres, and Alonso couldnt manage to follow that tempo, he was driving kind of conservative, i thought when the SC went out that Alonso will catch Ricciardo and attack him in a couple of laps. I think Alonso was driving a bit conservative.

He talks about strategy before SC. Red Bull pitted for primes, while we went for options. That is why SC then cost us.

But the race strategy is planned independent of SC, and without SC our race strategy may have worked out well. In the post race interview, Alonso himself said the strategy was good, just bad luck about the SC.

One cannot say it was bad because of the SC happening at that point, as we have no way of knowing when SC would come out if at all, hence we cannot plan anything in regard to that.

I still am not sure, if we could beat bulls with our strategy. They would not be pushing so hard if the SC won't come so they would be probably able to make it to the end as it didn't look as difficult after after all. So we would have to still overtake them. The strategy wasn't horrible, but not as good as Red Bulls and that did cost us the podium.

Ric tires wasn't that old, he pitted much later than Vettel. And Alonso can't be trashing his tires either, otherwise once it's gone, it completely falls off as you can see with Bottas. Bottas completely moved backwards once the tires stop working.

He pretty much ruined Raikonnen's race for sure. Little room for overtaking.

True that, but i was expecting Alonso at least few laps to give his maximum and try to overtake, he didn't even bother...
The same goes for Kimi, he was conservative as well.

Our drivers were good today, the team was good, the strategy was good and the car was reasonable on this track.
We could have made to second if it hadn't been for the SC.
But that's racing - sometimes SC situations favor you and sometimes they don't. On the other hand, if Rosberg's car hadn't failed, we could never have made it to second and in this situation we would have been 5th.
So,it is what it is........

Ricciardo pitted on lap 27, Alonso on lap 31, so our tyres really weren't that much better and I thought right during the SC period that Ricciardo would stay until the end. They were also helped by a pretty long SC period, it felt like 10 laps.

In the end, 2nd was definetly ours without the SC period. If we had fitted the softs on the 2nd pitsop just like the RBs we would have stayed ahead of them.

Yes it correct. I did not notice we did not put the option tyre on the first pit stop. Why didn't we though? In a race where 100% of the time in previous races the safety car comes in, you should realize that is a big possible of that happening.

Good race, but sad to see Fernando & Kimi stuck behind Ricciardo & Bottas. Hamilton drove exceptional stint after the safety car, reminded of Michael putting in 20 consistent qualifying laps. SC worked in our favor but the longer it stayed, started to screw us, potentially cost us the podium. Really want Hamilton to take the title, now I think bad luck count for both him & Rosberg are even, should be a good contest to watch.

D'accordo Rob, much easier to see what we could have done better with hindsight, but SC will always work against someone and this time it was us. Only 5 races to go and I won't be sorry when this season ends, couldn't care less about Merc and their drivers or the Bulls (except maybe RIC), but today Fernando deserved a podium as much as ever, good to see both drivers fighting even though Kimi got stuck behind BOT. I'm also beginning to smell a rat with the Merc team's apparent sharing of glitches between HAM/ROS at recent races.....wasn't Niki Lauda always called the rat? Says it all, even if he was a Ferrari champ! I even prefer Vettel to either of the Merc drivers and that's saying something. Frustrating race for us tifosi but well done ragazzi for showing that Ferrari can still fight after all this season's turmoil.

I don't understand the point of this rule... it should be 5 seconds plus the time to go into the pits at the least...

As it stands, if you are stuck behind someone because of a straight-line speed disadvantage then basically all you have to do is pass them off track and build up more than a 5 second lead whereas you could easily be stuck behind that car for 10-20 laps and that would ruin your race.... why aren't more drivers just passing off the track then since this rule doesn't really penalize them the way they would be penalized stuck behind a car for several laps?

Yeah you make a good point, sometimes the rules make no sense, I remember in 2010 when Alonso made contact with Kubica and Nigel Mansell was the race steward and penalized Alonso for gaining unfair advantage and just before the decision Kubica had retired from the race and it was not clear if it was Alonso fault or a racing incident. That decision from Mansell cost Alonso the title. I remember Alonso was not happy on team radio and even though Alonso was around 50 points behind Vettel he said we will still win the title. Nearly came true.

Well the purpose of this 5 second penalty was to provide a more lenient punishment for minor offenses where a drive through penalty is too severe. In the past, the minimum punishment available to the stewards was a drive through penalty, which was criticized as too harsh for offenses such as minor track limits infringements.

For bigger track limits infringement such as the one you mentioned, the driver would be told to give up the position or if it's not possible, I think the stewards may hand a more severe penalty such as a drive through.

Hamilton did drive a great race, but I think the merc is much faster than they are letting on. When ever they are in a situation they start pulling out a second a lap gap. I think merc is keeping their true speed under wraps so that the other teams dont protest to have the engine ban lifted.

As for our race, i think we did fairly well. We got caught out by the SC and that effectively ruined what could have been a P2, P5 for us.
But there is light in the horizon. Our car is coming around. Every so slowly, but at least headed in the right direction. :-)

Problem is the fuel rate rule. The safety car period would have save them some extra fuel, but they cannot use them because they would go over the fuel rate limit.

I really wish the rate limit would be remove. Give them 100kg and let them use it however they want. Too much green and not enough racing focus.

Sky reported that McLaren said they will not be making any drivers announcement at Japan. The media are guessing there may be an announcement at Honda's home race, but I don't see why McLaren should that. IMO it would be like expecting Red Bull to make announcement at Renault's headquarters.
