Well, RBR seem to be ahead straight out of the box. Their cars look to be planted in all corners. Everyone is running a lot of rake but they seem to be running even more. No understeer or oversteer whatsoever. Ferrari look OK. Not great but not too bad. The cars understeer in some corners and oversteer in others. But it still looks like the traction out of the slowest corners (1, 2 and 13) isn't affected by different downforce levels compared to last week. Merc on the other hand seem to be struggling. Hopefully we're at worst the 2nd package here this season.

Still early to tell. I would wait till quali before making any "assumptions" but it will be interesting on tire deg. if temps hold up like they have been.

Well, this Spec 3 engine upgrade includes new components: ICE, MGU-H, TC.

Yeah grid penalty is my concern because second half can also be called Vettel's half. Monza, Singapore, Suzuka, Brazil, Abu Dhabi, Mexico etc..these are tracks where Vettel is at his very best. So any penalty can potentially ruin a weekend where he has a strong shot at victory.

Stability-wise both qualifying simulations looked pretty good. Even though we might have lost some of the time advantage on this circuit compared to last year maybe there is still enough of an advantage to be ahead. Still some time off last year's pole but Merc seem to be even more behind compared to last year. I think they've already acknowledged their one-lap pace and will try to go for one-stoppers.

As I have arrived couple of hours ago in Budapest I was not at the track today. Looking at the results I would say good Friday work. After huge dissapointment week ago, SV needs to win this one and KR has to finish 2nd. On top of that, to take as much as possibe points away from Mercedes, Red Bulls must be 3rd and 4th! :-D

Some interesting stuff to look out for this weekend on the engine side. Haas and Sauber have fitted new parts to all four of their cars, confirming reports this week of both moving to the newest Ferrari upgrade. The factory team will not take the upgrade until after the summer break, in time for the power-sensitive Spa-Francorchamps and Monza circuits, but yesterday U.S. magazine Racer reported the upgrade is expected to worth up to 40 brakehorsepower. If that figure is accurate, it represents another very impressive step forward for Ferrari with the engine now considered to be the benchmark in F1.

Seb and Kimi: not an easy Friday, but “technically one of the best”

Mogyorod – The best way for Scuderia Ferrari to honor the late Sergio Marchionne and endure the tragic events of this week is to focus on the job we have to do this weekend. Both Sebastian Vettel and Kimi Raikkonen are well aware of this and the whole team did their best in the first day of practice at the Hungaroring, an effort resulting in a convincing pace in both the fast laps and the long runs. But it’s only Friday and the real challenge will begin tomorrow on the hot, 4.381 kilometre-long track just a few miles from Budapest.

“I was pretty happy in the afternoon” Seb said “more than in the morning session, as I think the car is performing well also over one lap. We can still improve, but this has been one of the best Fridays so far, technically speaking. Having a great amount of work ahead of us is probably the best thing for keeping our mind busy and getting through the weekend. It’s not easy, but I focused on the job to do. On this track, the qualifying session and the start are very important and can make the difference because overtaking is very difficult. Getting ahead after the first couple of corners is crucial, but there’s a lot of work to do before getting to that point”.

“It was a very normal Friday”, Kimi commented “trying things and learning as much as possible. The conditions were not very easy in many ways, but it’s normal on a Friday. We don’t really pay too much attention to the lap times, they really don’t count in a practice session. For sure we still have some work to do, but it was not too bad and the car worked as we expected. Hopefully tomorrow we’ll have the speed we need”.

I thought this weekend it’s vet vs mad max for pole. Now it’s vet for pole & fight between bottas vs kimi for p2.

But the tyres are softer this year (maybe should have been one step softer even). Still, it's very encouraging. RBR seem to have fallen back a bit and Merc still seem to be hard to drive lap after lap. I'm just a little bit worried than anyone starting on a harder compound will come back in the end of the race. I'm always scared of that because logically having harder tyres on with a heavy fuel load and then having softer tyres on with low fuel load should actually be faster overall (like Lewis at Hockenheim). But everyone is so hot on for pole that most of the frontrunners have missed that chance at some circuits (in my opinion). Still though, it's hard to pass on this circuit. Speaking of tires, Michelin WAS or IS thinking about doing F1 BUT it does'nt feel the FIA's mission with tires in F1 meets Michelin standards. Michelins goal is to make tire rubber last longer an the way the vast amount of tire compounds in F1 is right now...it DOES NOT meet Michelins goal.

Then the rim size is in question if they come in 2020 and make tires for 1 yr for 13 inch rims then to change to 18 inch rims for 2021.....so Michelin is waiting to see what happens.

It's very spectacular that this year's FP3 is quicker than last year's Q3. The evolution then actually has outdeveloped the shorter wheelbase from last year. But the tyres are softer this year (maybe should have been one step softer even). Still, it's very encouraging. RBR seem to have fallen back a bit and Merc still seem to be hard to drive lap after lap. I'm just a little bit worried than anyone starting on a harder compound will come back in the end of the race. I'm always scared of that because logically having harder tyres on with a heavy fuel load and then having softer tyres on with low fuel load should actually be faster overall (like Lewis at Hockenheim). But everyone is so hot on for pole that most of the frontrunners have missed that chance at some circuits (in my opinion). Still though, it's hard to pass on this circuit. But it might work very well att Spa and Monza.

Actually it’s tight between bottas & ham quali this year.
All of them say, ham king of quali. But results show different, he’s (bottas) out qualifying his team mate regularly. Bottas found right balance.

In fact it reminds me of Monaco, Sochi performances last year from bottas. He’s learning how to find right balance under these conditions.

Coming to king of quali mr. rapper, when his car performs good he’s special very talented driver. When it doesn’t it’s car mistake not ham’s. What kind of logic is this.

See vettel if it’s a good weekend he’s on pole, if it’s not he’s atleast in top3.

Yeah by end of S2, he was .4ths up on vet 1st Set of US FL. But then in S3 he locked up his front left tyre, which resulted to take deep line instead of tight line in the last two corners.

As an F1 fan, I love qualifying on a drying track. It means every lap is crucial. Usually, whoever goes last goes quickest because the track gets more rubber and hotter. However, as a Ferrari fan, I hate it. It means we can lose our advantage to a driver who gets lucky.
