If Charles can manage a top 5 finish in this race then that's a good haul from both races with 2nd and 5th considering how poor we were on pace, then hopefully the Hungarian upgrades are decent enough to push us back into the main fight.

Vettel is locking up in the exact same place on every lap as last Sunday's race so upgrades or setup changes haven't changed anything on his side at least. Maybe Leclerc is happier with the new floor.

that is strange, I have read that Vettel suffered brake and damper issues during the race, that was why his car was all over the place. Should see a positive change now if true.

Last week brundle said that it's just a track that bottas really likes, so I don't think it's anything more than that really. I certainly don't expect it to be something that is repeated the rest of the season, as much as we'd all like to see a power shift at merc.

I don't get the clamour for rain, there's no evidence that our car is any better in the wet and it's not like we have a Rainmaster™ who can take advantage of the conditions.
Though I concede that rain would probably make the race more of a sceptical, that's of they're actually allowed to race and it's not just a safety car parade.

Really poor error from norris there by not slowing down and overtaking under yellow flags. Grid place penalty and penalty points. I know hamilton got points for crashing in to albon but did he get any for ignoring the yellows? He should have got them and that would be a race ban if not.

Quite possibly there's no correlation between the what the computer simulation says and what is actually happening on track. It's something we've struggled with for years.

Can Ferrari go back to Maranello and just get another car out of the museum!!!!
The car is clearly reasonably quick in the corners we are losing nearly all our time on the straights. Binotto already said of the 1s loss in qualifying to merc nearly 7 tenths was down to power'. Now whether this is due to aerodynamic drag or as suspected the Technical Directive at the end of last season completely neutered the engine then I think we just have to accept it is what it is.
"Of the second, three-tenths in cornering, in what I was just speaking about. But then there is still seven-tenths on the power unit on the straights.'

I think now it is safe to say that the new upgrades have made the car slower. If the new parts aren't working, what's the guarantee that Hungary parts will work? Car was supposed to change completely in Hungary, based on today's performance, it could well be that new upgrades in Hungary make the car even slower than today because there seems to be negative correlation between what they are developing and what is happening on track.

Sector times say otherwise. Ferrari 3 tenths slower in sector 1, 3 tenths slower in 2, and 4 tenths slower in 3.
So it's not just power, but lack of downforce as well.

But it's not the 80's. Back in those days, any private team with good financial backing could win the champinoship. But that's no longer the case today.
Money dominates current F1, and Ferrari is one of the richest, if not the richest team in F1. There's no excuse for battling with Mclaren or Tracing point, teams with half the budget, resources and workforce compared to Ferrari.

Of course, we don't know the actual fuel load of today's race sim, and I'm not including race sim from July 3 practice, since the track was more than 22C cooler, so entirely different condition. But still, it looks promising. And according to Vettel, the current car feels completely different than what they had a weeks ago, so another positive sign.
Also Leclerc: “I think we found a few things on high fuel towards the end of the day, the last run especially, so this is positive, let’s see whether tomorrow, or after tomorrow depending on the weather, if we are able to gain the lap time we gained on high fuel also on low fuel.”
So clearly happy with his long run pace.

So is he saying the things they found were from the new parts or just fine tuning the overall package?
We're definitely not fighting the fizzy drink company yet, but I don't think we can tell anything from today's sessions as viewers.
The lap times you put up there look like they are giving a 3 tenth improvement which was our best case going into this weekend.

And we CAN'T understand you Mr Binotto !!!!!!
To be fair bringing a few updates was forced on the team by the big boss. Binotto likes to line his ducks up like last year withholding updates until ready. Forcing a few of these updates through this weekend is kicking the can down the road just for political posturing something is being done. If Hungary upgrade was a whole new direction how can mixing a few of the upgrades with the current concept work? It's like having a Merc clone for Hungary but only having a few parts of that on the car this weekend. It simply will not work.

Or at least dust off the sf90 and run that this year...prolly 1000 better then this donkey
SF90 had the banned engine that gained 1 second a lap on the straights. SF1000 is a much better chassis but castrated engine loses 0.7 on the straights, that's a 1.7 second swing. With the banned engine the SF1000 would be on pole by 0.8 seconds based on last weekends qualifying.

They said that they did it because it was an apportunity to evaluate the new pieces in the same track they race with the old ones just a week ago. Its the 1st time teams can do such thing.

The negeative rhetoric that is communicated to Ferrari by commentators and other team principles for the current performance level of the SF 1000 is deserved Ferrari have only them selves to blame for this lousy situation.Binottos tenure is under pressure his glasses are fogging up all the time.Camelleri will show him the door with vettal come seasons end, they can hold hands on the way out.The negativity might spur Ferrari on.One must ask how does a billion dollar organisation get it so so wrong, when teams with a fraction are really having a genuine crack.

Because they are never given time to build. TP at Ferrari is a poisoned challace, if u cannot win fans demand it instantaneously. Would hate to lose Binotto, he was great on engine and on chassis when put in charge. He inherited a situation from previous regimes and last year was 1st time in a decade Ferrari improved as the year went on, remember Singapoure aero upgrade. Fire him like Allison and Da Costa and weep when he goes to Merc and looks like a genious. Fans need to calm down and give him time. Remember an old TP joined in 93 took 7 years to win a constructors and 8 years for drivers....Jean Todt? Merc built year on year from 2010, took their 5th season until they won. Ferrari problem is expecting titles without any foundations.

Definatly we dont want to lose Binotto. I actually supported him and I think he was excellent TD. But since last year that he is TP also ,he seems like he lost something. We need a man strong enough and smart enough ,as TP, to handle all the matters with FIA and making agreements that suit us !!! And right now it looks like Binnoto cant handle it !!!!

You think this car is worse than Williams? Leclerc only 0.008 ahead.
This type of condition is a great equalizer, cars cant generate enough downforce. It's the drivers who makes all the difference, where to find the grip, when to put the power early etc. Stop blaming the engine/car for one second and put some blame on the driver as well.

Last time I checked, Williams have Mercedes engine... And you want to say, that Russel is so much better diver, than Leclerc? Don't kid yourself, our car is trash.
You stop kidding yourself. So what are you saying, that Ferrari is no better than Williams?
This is a wet qualifying, what the the **** engine gonna do, pull the car faster through corners? :rotfl

And shows the real worth of someone like Bottas. Out-qualified his teammate buy 1.428 seconds. But yeah...it's the Mercedes who we need to blame here! :lol

Ferrari never produced a good wet race car.
It’s just drivers of Schumi & Alonso made the difference.

Williams car is better in these conditions. That’s true. Even stroll outqualified Ferrari’s last time.
There are certain conditions which their car suits to.
With worst car no driver can do anything.
I still love Ferrari and support them but after 13 winless seasons I AM DONE. I am supporting redbull now to end merc's arrogance. #FORZAFERRARI i hope they find their way

You HAVE to be impressed with how bad the car is, no? I mean it takes skill to be that much slower than last year.
AND I AM ACTUALLY STARTING TO FEEL SORRY FOR CHARLES AND CARLOS

I thought Charles would be a WDC before max. But looking at current Ferrari, I don’t have any hope for 2 seasons.
Hope in 2022 ferrari start on a good note. Else we will see waste of talent once again

The last time was Hungary 2018, when Raikkonen was the fastest driver in Q3 and would've taken the pole, but he was unable to because he couldn't do a single lap on new tyres.
For the last time, stop blaming the car, the team, tyres, suspension or whatever for one second and admit that, netiher Lec or Vet are outstanding in this conditions. There's a reason why both Ham and Max outqualified their teammates by more than 1 seconds.
And the Williams of 2017 wasn't an absolute dog, unlike the Williams of last year or this year.

+1 This! You couldn't point it better. It proves that our issues are not just car / Binotto / management by any means.
THEY HAVE TO CHANGE CULTURE, ITALIANS ARE NO GOOD. THEY ARE DRIVEN BY EMOTIONS, EMOTIONS DRIVEN DECISIONS ARE JUST HORRIBLE DECISIONS.

Thats a joke of a statement, Merc has the best car on the gird BY FAR. Then of course Lewis much better than Bottas, but I believe Verstappen would beat Lewis in the same car.

When there’s a good car, your driver will make the difference in such conditions.
They will find the sweet spot & make it work. That’s how RB & Mercs cars are & their drivers are making difference.
When you don’t have a good car, wt will driver do? How can he find traction or grip?
Ok tell me when was the last time ferrari car won in wet race? Leave Alonso & schumi

So you are saying Mercedes is a worse car than the Mclaren, because Bottas got out-qualified by Sainz. Good to know.
And why would I ever leave out Schumi or Alonso? if both of them can win races in a dog of a car like 1996 or 2012 Ferrari, you atleast expect current Ferrari drivers to beat Gasly or Ocon, and qualify inside the top 10.

I’m asking about the car & your are asking drivers. :-)
RB was always a good car aerodynamically. It’s no matter whether you accept it or not.
It was proved when vettel was in there & now max.
Mercs you know It’s their era, their car is suitable to every condition except hot where they have cooling issue.
and talking about drivers, when you have a good car in hand they make the talk through their driving that’s what max & ham are doing.
Now that even Alfa car is strong in these conditions, it doesn’t mean that kvyat or Ocon or sainz or Norris etc are better than Lec & vettel.
