Only 1 and half hour to go. Looking at Leclerc's onboard in qualy our car looks very stable and easy to drive, also noticed how low our rake is. Following on the Merc philosophy. Hoping for a good results. Leclerc to beat Max

Sebastian Vettel:
We have to be open minded. We're starting 10th, we're not expecting miracles & finishing on the podium. I think ideally make up a couple of places, race people around me and come out in front of them.
So a point or two is the target.

I’m not expecting much from him. It’s better if ferrari sends him off on a good note.
He’s been playing with media too much these days. Don’t know what wrong with him.
One thing is for sure, he isn’t comfortable with the current car & his weekend was bad, so it might go worse too. If he’s in the points then that’s a surprise else nothing much.

I wonder if the FIA will make the drivers wash Hamilton’s feet at Silverstone today. After all, he’s not happy with kneeling. Maybe they should just save the tires and fuel and give him the trophy before the race starts. Send everyone home and spare us another bore fest. “My tires are gone, my engine is making a noise, by back is hurting” - all while smashing lap records.
Joking aside, I hope our set up will give Leclerc a chance at some decent points today.

Charles said they have less downforce on their car which will probably be not so good for the tyre management. He doesn't expect a miracle / a podium position. But he will try his best.

Hopefully Hamilton wins, I know it is not easy for him to win, that mighty Bottas or super fast Red Bull is his real enemies.
Bottas always fights so Lewis has to drive maximum limits.

9 other teams can’t even get a sniff of Mercedes, one got close but they had to buy an old Merc to do it. Don’t blame the other teams for not being able to close the gap. Blame the FIA, Liberty and Merc for creating a formula and rules that allow for no development, no testing, no way to improve to close the gap to your competitors. It’s a joke formula and you know it. Stop hailing Merc for being so “amazing”, stop pretending they haven’t been helped along the way.

sorry I can't agree with that, FIA pressure Ferrari for the engine, when Ferrari collide with RB or MERC its automatic penalty, but other way around it's racing incident, but when it comes to merc nothings happen like the DAS it is legal this year but next year it's not allowed... how can FIA justify this kind of thing, today its allowed, tomorrow it's not allowed? if it's legal today why not allowed it tomorrow and so on... o it means its illegal for today? but they allowed MERC to dominate.

Not interested in conspiracy theories. Ferrari are spending millions of dollars, they are not going to spend that much money while knowing the FIA is helping Mercedes. That's just an idiotic suggestion.
And Ferrari got veto powers, if they feel that they are getting hard done by others, then they should use it more often.

Not a conspiracy theory mate, straight facts. It’s not just about Ferrari falling short, it’s 9 other teams as well. The facts are there for everyone to see. Merc has had an advantage, if I have time and feel like it later I will pull up countless articles proving this.

Alonso is the only driver this side of Schumacher capable to winning a title in an inferior car, and in fact would've done so but for the FIA inspection debacle on the Red Bulls in 2012 in Monaco and Germany.
Senna in 1991, Schumacher in 1995 and 2003 and Alonso in 2005 are the greatest title wins in my lifetime with regards to equipment had, while Alonso in 2012 without a match is the best season I've ever seen from a driver.

Seb had problems the entire weekend. You saw it fp1 problem fp2 problem fp3 problem. The car was badly setuped and balanced the same as Charles had in Hungary. Charles did its max bravo. What we saw today was bound happened. Tyres are from last year and today's car, aero-wise, producing more downforce than before. If we raced in Spain, half the field would not finish that race.
Good thing for us I guess, since we are not really quick compared to last year, both aero and engine-wise.

Yeah I thought you were only allowed to drive back to the pits on three wheels, not complete a new lap? Needs a time penalty of 10 seconds for crossing the finish line in an unsafe condition to be demoted the pit stop time so Max wins. I think that should be automatic if a driver crosses the line in dangerous equipment.

IF Lewis had that puncture 20 seconds earlier Verstappen would not have pitted. This was the most lucky thing EVER to happen in Formula 1, except for Glock going off track at the last corner in 2008.
And Bottas lost EVERYTHING because he got the puncture at the wrong place of the track, so he had to limp for so long. Unreal luck for Hamilton.

I’m not expecting anything, but at least an investigation to show that there is some parity when it comes to penalties. Merc covered the tire right away, which shows you they know he shouldn’t have driven on it. More Ham/Merc favouritism as usual.

Lately Vettel is getting pretty chummy with the media. It's only a matter of time until he says something like "Ferrari not giving me the equal car as Charles" or something like that.
I think Binotto needs to rein in, because Vettel is still under Ferrari contract. Otherwise he would say something stupid, and Ferrari would get lots of bad PR's.

There's no denying that Vettel was a great champion, at least nearly the same level as Hammy, but now he just reminds me of Jorge Lorenzo at Honda or the Jimmie Johnson of the past few years in NASCAR. Sometimes, champions collapse a lot harder than others. Bar being given a Mercedes, I don't think Vettel would have any prospects of rejuvinating himself. Max would destroy him now, whereas in 2017-2018 they'd be too close to call.

It wasn’t mechanical damage, it was just a flat tyre that wasn’t shedding debris. If it was shedding debris then he’d have to pull over. I can maybe recall one instance of a damaged car being limped home that was black-flagged or given a penalty.

Well, that was both predictable and boring.. until the wheels fell off both Mercs!
1) Sadly, as ever, Saint Lewis of Shamilton (PBUH) gets the rub of the green and wins.
2) Our car is pretty bl**dy awful and despite our £££ and resources we are now AT BEST the 4th best team behind Mercs, RBR and the McMowers. The pink Mercs are a flash in the pan, IMHO.
3) LEC is a top lad. SCs etc, blah, blah but he still finished 3rd in a clown car! Must be having second thoughts about that 5-year contract!
4) VET doesn't give a **** any more. Fact. The team did not behave professionally when getting rid of him so not that surprised.
I'll always support the Ferrari F1 team, as I have since 1979, but as an organisation, it could not currently, as we say, 'organise a ***-up in a brewery'..

Leclerc was very competitive in sector 1 and average in sector 3, but he lost an awful amount of time in sector 2. Even the Mclarens and Renaults were faster cars than Ferrari in sector 2. And looking at Ferrari's RW (and all Ferrari powered cars) compared to other cars, it wasn't surprising.
I think aero wise, Ferrari made a step forward. But the engine is so much down on power, they can't do anything but to shed downforce from the car, which is also reducing tyre performance during the race.
SS454
2nd August 2020, 19:59
I have never liked the point for fastest lap. Not only does it manufacture a super fast lap time that is unrepresentative to actual race pace, it takes away from potential on track racing. I couldn't believe Red Bull pitted Max with 2 laps to go when they knew Hamilton had tire issues and Bottas just had a failure. Even if Max had his own issues, they should have kept him out and gone for the win.
Leclerc is probably driver of the day. Unfortunately completely low key, and in a car that is abysmal, but somehow held 4th for most of the race, and lucked into a podium.
What a shame for Nico Hulkemburg. I was looking forward to seeing him race. Very strange that an F1 team can't start their own car on race day.
Should Lewis have driven the car on a flat tire? 100% yes. I've always seen cars drive to the pits even with tires shooting bits of rubber and carbon all of the track. It's shocking the tire didn't do any damage to the Merc. Even Carlos' tire deflation looked to be damaging.

Lewis wins driving home on 3 tires! He for sure wanted those points to get safely ahead of the other Merc . Ferrari gets a podium!! Charles got every ounce of good out of his car! Max has to be in shock that Lewis won on 3 tires!

Fairly entertaining race. Silverstone always has some sort of drama. Of course nothing compared to last years race, but the midfield fights were fun to watch and the last couple of laps was terrific.
Lewis is a seriously lucky man. Not to take away any credit from him, but that was a huge serving of luck of when and where he got his tyre failure. Max pitting before that. Anyways, looking like a record equaling 7 titles for LH by end of this season.
LEC once again making the most of our package. That kid is amazing. So glad we have him in our team.
Seb vettel should ideally sit it out rest of the season. Even a reserve driver can get the results he is getting right now. I dont blame him as such, i can imagine he has no motivation to fight anymore. not at Ferrari at least.

It wasn't entertaining for me. Only the latest few laps were interesting because of the punctures. Just a packed midfield because Grosjean slowed down everyone.

Charles putting Ferrari back on the podium made the race great. So many fans didn't even expect Ferrari in the top 10. There's hope for the season! Forget Binotto's 2023 expectations.

What did everyone think of the penalty for Albon? to me it seemed rather harsh.

Me also! On some occasions judges are pretty harsh. This is supposed to be racing. With penalties like this, there will be no racing...

Yeah it was K-Mag who lost his car over kerb & was going or not in control with car where albon found the opportunity to pass. Don’t think it’s a penalty, just a racing incident.

Seemed unnecessary.

Not just harsh, think it was wrongly attributed to albon. It was Kmags fault. Hes done exactly this once before. Brazil 2019 i think. Hes quite a reckless driver, with no respect for his fellow pilots. A disaster waiting to happen.

Albion is having a real good baptism into f1 he just needs to keep his head down and keep rolling along results will come.

With regulations standing still for next season, if it has 20 races or more I would fully expect to see Hamilton as an 8 time world champion and on at least 100 wins. He’ll equal Schumacher and break his 91 wins easily this year. Only unreliability and Bottas having major luck would stop that so unlikely.

So it looks like Seb could be joining Aston Martin F1 in 2021.
Seb was seen bumping elbows with Lawrence Stroll as they walked by each other.
After the race, Seb got into Otmar Szafnauer's 488 Pista....passenger side.

This is a forgone conclusion! LH will own all records before he retires.

I'm already prepared for the possibility that Merc will win all races next season. They are just way too far ahead, more than we've ever seen.
WDC is already a foregone conclusion, Lewis will take this year and next's title.
At this point, I'm just watching to cheer on Ferrari for whatever result we can get, and because I love watching fast cars.
I don't expect any WDC competition in these 2 years

Great post; Hornet ! I also still look forward to the F-1 races. The fighting up front is still there until the very finish. Merc almost finished with no points ! Ferrari got a podium ! Lewis finishing 1st. on 3 tires was for sure something to watch for every second till the end.
