tifosi1993

It's not about the SC, it!s about what happened during it. VSC is made to keep the gaps constant, yet Maxmilian gained a second under what is more than double yellows. And then he complains about Charles gaining 2 tenths under single yellow. He is a spoiled, arogant brat.

We're running high DF. I don't think we are lacking any HP.

Running lower DF setup worked here, but it's not gonna work in Australia. We also need the upgrades, can't run every race with the launch spec. The upgrades must come in the next race.

WH.AT A CL.A.SS

Amazing CL. He basically said everyone that MV is a beep...

khizerk
27th March 2022, 19:40
Something was fishy there

Something was off in CL's balance after vsc. After the botched attempt by MV in which he majorly locked up his tires, he dropped 1.3-1.4 sec behind but was able to get back within DRS detection within one lap. So CL was losing time. Probably tire temps not back up.

Two take aways really:
1. In tracks with relatively longer straights, DRS zones need to be shorter. In Jeddah, they were super over powered for sure and more than compensated time lost following someone around corners.
2. Ferrari needs to resolve the porpoising issues ASAP so that it could go for more neutral setups. Otherwise in tracks like these, the drivers are sitting ducks as soon as someone gets in DRS range.

458 Italia
27th March 2022, 19:40
Still think DRS is too strong.

RB is the new Merc with that PU. Why we stupidly agreed to the freeze is anyone's guess. RB was already on the backfoot with Honda leaving now they are going to dominate till 2026. Other teams got played big time!! How do RB do it? Let McLaren test Honda PU for them for 3 years, cap wind tunnel while they have 2 teams and double the wind tunnel time, Get the biggest deal in F1 with Oracle, and of course have FIA , Sky championing them.

Sorry guys but we only have a few tracks that can beat RB - they will kill us in most tracks with that top speed.

alfaromeo

It is necessary to continue with the development of the car, because it still has quite a few reserves f1-75

We didn't manage to overtake Red Bull in any of the 3 DRS zones. It's their top speed that is too strong. But that should change in Australia. Let's hope at least.

On a side note: I believe CL and the pitwall lost the race today during the VSC.
For the car behind you to gain 2'' instead of going to 4, means that the failed to keep the deltas.

IF deltas where kept by CL, that means MV didn't kept them.
But at least, we had 1 nice 2-3 and CL got the fastest lap.

Can't complain. We knew the RB was very fast in a straight line. We are right in this. I think Max is temperamentally weaker than LEC. Over 23 - or whatever - races we can have him. Big Dutch crybaby.

Well Max struggled at the end of the medium tyres stint actually. Dropped to almost 3 seconds behind Charles. The hards were insanely durable, Hamilton managed almost 40 laps on them. Plus we haveto take the SC and VSC into consideration.

Tifoso Svedese

The chassis is incredible, the PU is incredible, the drivers are incredible, the pit crews are incredible and the race operation and the strategy are becoming top notch as well.

But now we need to bring some upgrades and leapfrog others.

... and we need twistier tracks which comes around in May and runs all the way until Spa.

We can still upgrade the hybrid. I assume Red Bull can't since Honda aren't investing any money in it and they basically just maintain what they have.

You can't handle the truth? We screwed up with the engine freeze! How do you let RB who was going to be without Honda pull off that masterstroke and get other teams stupidly to agree on a freeze?

Bunch of clowns!

Everyone agreed to the rules and regulations in this turbo-hybrid era 2014 thru 2021......EVERYONE got screwed with the exception of Mercedes and Lewis.

RB definitely pushing their engine. Being 26 points down, it definitely made sense. I wonder if it will cost them reliability later on, or having to take up new engines. I hope Ferrari can get their PU up to full power by Monza. We only lost cause of the VSC; unlucky. We’ll get ‘em in Australia.

Don't worry. I don't think we need to improve the PU at all. Bahrain and Saudi are two power circuits where Ferrari ran with burn door RW. They have dominated Bahrain and almost won the Saudi.

But yes, the energy harvesting components can be upgraded this year, after that no more upgrades apart from reliability.

We aren't even running the engine at full beans yet. We will bring updates (RB and Merc already brought a bunch) and we are happy to see the correlation with the simulator, you can't overstate the impact of that because it reinforces the belief in future updates and that they will bring the performance required.

Yeah what’s Honda deal in all of this? If they just simply developed the engine up to a point, and left, then we can definitely catch up, and surpass them. PUs aren’t frozen yet.

The 2019 Melbourne layout would've suited our car very well but I'm not sure now with the lakeside chicane being removed. However, S1 and S3 should be very good for us even though we'll take attrition in the mid.

RB's issue is not money - they already have $300m extra saved from the budget cap and the extra $100m a year from Oracle. Not to mention - taking away 60% of Merc senior PU staff. Ben Hodkinson will be doing a great job with ICE. I just cant see anything stopping them - sadly.

We have more wind tunnel time, we are running with a launch car while they already brought a big upgrade (their budget is therfore smaller now). We are holding some aces too. Where are your data? Everyone directly from F1 says Ferrari is the team who probably has the strongest PU. Then emerges some unknown guy who tries to trash our team. Well I am sorry, your "opinion" has no weight compared to theirs. But I guess people feel better after vomiting...

Where do I get my data from? Maybe you should watch the races? The talk about Ferrari having the strongest PU is just talking. I go with facts before everyone's eyes. RB has by far the strongest PU and they are only going to get better with their PU upgrades. I am not living in denial and just saying it as it is. If Ferrari truly had the strongest PU they will be running it NOW and not holding back. Did Ferrari hold back in 2019? Come on stop kidding yourself about having the best PU. :D You are just proving that you have no clue about F1. Do you know, what high downforce setup is? Did you see our rear wing? Did you hear what Binotto said about us having higher DF for this race, the same as Bahrain? Do you know what high DF does to your top speed? No? I'll tell you... With hogh downforce you will be slower on the straight as the car will have more drag. But it will be faster in the twisty bits, which are called corners, heard of them? Yea... we were waaaaay faster in those. Red Bull went with smaller wings, therefore low DF setup. That's why they were faster on top speed.

So maybe, just maybe you should learn a bit before you start acting like you know it all and all is wrong and we should have done this and that. Then come back and we can have a discussion. See ya.

Monza is better than Jeddah for a draggy car so long as you have the traction, which we do in abundance. Vettel won there twice in a Red Bull.

We did better there than Spa both in 2020 and 2021.

Yep, there is always one.
We have plenty of power in thta Ferrari. With the setup we ran we were already 10km/h slower down the straights without DRS. Add another 11km/h with DRS and we were always going to be a sitting duck in the DRS zones. Charles pushed hard to stay out range. Maybe we took a bit too much out of the tyres to build the gap and Max saved a bit which paid off in the end

the vsc thing can be explained possibly by when it started and ends

i'll have to go back and watch

but let's say it starts at the end of sector 2 where redbull are quick, then ends at the start of sector 2,

redbull got two fast sectors without leclerc being able to respond with a fast sector 1.

if that's the case you have to do something about it, perhaps it's as easy of disabling DRS for 2 laps post vsc

I think many people are forgetting that we do have a porpoising issue which gets worse with higher top speeds. It's likely that we chose an extra downforce setup as a compromise. I do firmly believe that once that is resolved and we start putting more neutral setups on, we will be matching RB in straight line speed.

It was good to see a clean battle, just wish Charles came out on top. A double podium is nice but like Rickey Bobby said, “if hon ain’t first, you’re last”

It looked like the Ferraris were running more wing than the Red Bull cars, which would explain the straight line speed differential. The decision made it harder for Charles to defend or attack once Max is within DRS.

Oh well. Hoping for a Ferrari win next time.

I have a feeling our compromise is higher spring rates and higher downforce. We found a good balance with that. Whereas Red Bull are free to run whatever setup they want. This bodes well if true. Where compromised and still faster than the redbulls. Our PU is on par or slightly behind RB; and once we turn it up more pace will come. Overall I feel good. Still miffed that crashstapoen got us. I think the no investigation needed was for the fact that the place had been given back, don't know if when the postion was given back ever investigated. I am sure they'll say it was human error or new team blah blah.

Ferrari should ask clarification because if the place was given back during the safety car Carlos could have challenged Max from behind, and that may have had an impact on Max's ability to challenge Charles.

What a race from Charles, hard to watch at times on that track and praying that he wouldn't end up in the wall, he just kept it together and deserved to win but the RB straight line speed ended that dream. The setup was a bit concervative probably as tyre wear might have been a concern. A few months ago Ferrari wasn't anywhere near the fight at the front. Red Bull has been fighting at the front for a while and learned from last year. Lewis was a lot quicker than Max down the straights so they opted for less downforce and more top speed this time round. Ferrari will learn from this year and next year we will be running a different setup. Coming away with a 2 podiums positions is awesome. Ferrari will have to get used to being front runners again and they will be quite concervative in the first part of the season is my guess. As the confidence within the team grow, they will start getting more aggressive. Ferrari is in a good place has a good platform to build from
