Does anybody know details about what Ferrari is about to show us in Imola?
Does anybody know details about what Ferrari is about to show us in Imola?
no drastic visual changes ( no esperes grandes cambios visuales ) i whish to be fast!!!!

It's not a B version. Check out the picture thread from testing and read the other threads for info about it.
Whatever the mods, let's hope they won't let Michael down.
I certainly won't. I'm sure Greig, Tony, Voy, Toby, Icy, Stefano, Shahid, 333 and lady all feel the same way.Originally posted by Stradale

I'm sure he meant mods = modifications.

Ok, I've made picture (sorry it's so big) with some details of the small aerodynamic changes.
1. The front wing has now just two instead of three elements.
2. Bigger fins have been attached on both side of the nosecone, it's actually a bit of Toyota's style.
3. Triangular horizontal flaps have been attached on both the endplates of the frontwing just in front of the front tyres.
4. Modified 'upside down' wings are attached on the inside of the front tyres.
5. Part of the rear rims are made from carbon fibre.
6. The airflow on the engine cover has been improved.
7. Two pins on both side at the end of the engine cover that are attached to the torsion bars (under the lower mainplain) have been added.
(Unfortunately not the right colour....) 8. The chimney's are nicely attached to the winglets.
Apart from this, there are some updates on the bargeboards, the undertray and the rearsuspension which has been made more rigid in order to more efficiently use Bridgestone's latest generation of tyres.

Wow nice one SF1. About point 4, i thought that aerodynamic devices on wheels or suspension that create downforce are illegal?
Well I called it a wing (which is probably the thing that makes you think it produces downforce) as that is what it effectively is. I think you're right saying that it isn't allowed to generate downforce therefore it is probably there to reduce drag or/and make the air less turbulent.
Yeah good point, that makes perfect sense :)
The rear rims are made of carbon fibre???

Damn, forgot to change that....I believe it's actually the outside of the rims, not all of it...Originally posted by jkwaggener

More this bit:
It's called 'anello' in Italian.

Awesome!!!

Whats the benefit of carbon rims - apart from weight, or is that the reason?
Those who have come into Formula One without experiencing cars devoid of electronic aids will find it tough. To control 800 horsepower relying just on arm muscles and foot sensitivity can turn out to be a dangerous exercise. Michael Schumacher
Whats modified about the little wing things by the brakes?
The chimney fins have been connected to the winglets since the last Bahrain test
Im not sure the rims really have any carbon fiber in them. The rim cylinder itself I dont think is CF, as pics I seen from the last Barcelona test definitly showed a metal rim, but the Y-spokes that connect the cylinder to the hub were black. That could be paint, or brake dust. I think u'd need to look at pics of Ferrari's tire stash in the pits. To get CF to work with the constant forces of so many different angles that come with a rim, would be very impressive if its true.
7: I dont know how thats an update
The body around the exhaust and engine cover looks the same to me, how do you know its improved?
I think the lower edge of the top element on the rear wing is different too.
Awesome pic, and it really shows the gills in the body behind the radiators too. Somewhat suprising with the cool conditions, perhaps its to keep the engines alive.

The chimney thing I added myself, I actually I never noticed it was attached to the winglet till the test at Barcelona :
Indeed, the exhaust area looks the same but it appears the airflow has been made better.
Anyway, all things were taken from Gazzetta, they know best.
"The Thing" in front of the brakes are brake coolers if im correct.
They suck in air to cool the brakes. Was explained somewhere last year (the F2005 had them as well).
"We thought the cones had been removed at the back of club circuit on which he was running. They hadn't. He really was that fast."
Eddie Jordan on Michael Schumachers first F1 test with Jordan.
Brawn said the new aerodynamics bring around 2, 3 tenths. Also the modified engine and the fact Ferrari no longer has to drive without a rev limit brings some few tenths as well. ''It's an ingenious step compared to what we had in Australia.'''
''We have the feeling we have a good car. We didn't fully use the potential it has and I think today we made that clear.''
''In Bahrain the engine problem came very soon, without warning, before that everything was going normal. After we've done many succesful kilometers in wintertesting the problem soon appeared. The new design of the pistons is more robust now. That causes a few disadvantages but in terms of reliability. We are all pretty confident.''
''We had to be conservative on the engine the last two races, but now we're back in the old situation in which we can use all the revs. We can now be aggresive, like we've been in the past years. That is absolutely the best strategy to get up front on the starting grid.''
''Today was a good day. The cars go well and on the tyre front we gathered some good information. Both drivers were driving different kind of tyres which enables us to make comparisons. Today the tyres gave a good impression. We are very satisfied.''
''We take things seriously, we have to remain focussed and concentrated improving the car. With the updates so far we are happy but we still need to become a little better.
"A 1-2 result would a dreamresult but Renault is the biggest problem as far as that is concerned. We wish for a good result. It's still early but when we work hard and give everything we will be able to fight for victory on Sunday. Ferrari is always under pressure, but we can handle that. For us only the dissapoiting results from the past races count, we want to do better here.''

Well that is what brake ducts are for....although I think I know what you mean these things having little wholes in them to cool the brakes off a bit as well....Originally posted by schnumi

There is ring of carbon fibre on the wheel rim, I believe its function is to help with brake cooling, don't ask me how. However there had been some hoo ha (thats the technical term I believe) around this because people said the rule specified that the rim must be of a homogenous material. However Ross has said that the rule was changed a few years ago and the teams who were complaining needed to check there information.
I think the carbon rim has been on the car for a while this is from Bahrain
(unless this is from the test??)

"We win together, we lose together"
Actually it has been and there were complaints by other team at that race that it was actually used as a moving aerodynamic device as well !
If you look how it's made....a lip, sort of, it's got to produce added downforce, by trapping the air in the rim.....doesn't it?Originally posted by Shahid
