Forgot to highlight the plates in Belgium, Great Britain, and Germany as well. Any ideas as to why they ran the smooth wing for North America?

Also curious as to the slots on the nose cones for USA, Canada, Hungary, Turkey, Belgium, Italy and a couple of later races in the season, cooling? And if cooling, cooling of what components?

The driver and/or electronics and the power steering hydraulics.

The vent was previously on top of the nose (part way along the 'Marlboro' logo) but has only recently been moved to the end of the nose - most likely for aerodynamic reasons to cause the least disturbance to the flow over the car.

Other teams have used this layout for some time.

I feel like I'm looking at the back of a cereal box trying to figure out how Tony the Tiger is different from picture to picture....

As well as cooling (see Coysht) I believe the slot also has a aero benefit, by minimising the pressure build up at the tip of the nose.
