    F1 Paint Composition

Anyone know anything about the paint used on the f2007?

How many different colors were used this season? I know it changed at least once around the time of the Monaco race.

I’ve read that it is extremely light weight, and that it could possibly be some sort of ink.
Also believe that it is not available for street car application and fades in direct sunlight over time.

I think it only changed once. I think the natural lighting made the shade of red change from race to race a bit. It was no different than the old scuderia red.

For sure the paint is very light, its not the usual application of primer, base coat, clearcoat paint jobs seen on road cars haha. The idea would be to keep it as thin as possible, and like you said the actual composition of the paint would be used with weight in mind, not durability.

From an actual paint peerspective it is very near a pearl. The paint on the car appears from 'sources' to consist of a silver base with a clear red over it. That is the way I've had it put to me by people on the grid. Apparently the Blue on the BMW's is very similar in composition.
