Thumbs up Ferrari aims to 'win from front' in finale

Ferrari boss Stefano Domenicali says Fernando Alonso's aim for Abu Dhabi has to be to try and win from the front rather than following any of his title rivals and hoping they don't score enough to over-haul him.

Alonso takes an eight-point lead over Mark Webber and a 15-point cushion back to Sebastian Vettel into the season finale, with Lewis Hamilton also just about in contention, 24 points behind.

If the Brazilian Grand Prix result was repeated in Abu Dhabi, with Vettel leading home Webber and Alonso, the Spaniard would still be champion.

But if the Red Bulls' order is reversed and Webber wins ahead of Vettel, the Australian will pip Alonso to the title.

Red Bull has often failed to maximise its result in the races this year even when it has been comfortably the fastest car, but Domenicali does not think Ferrari can count on its rival dropping the ball again in the decider.

When asked if he thought Alonso could win next weekend's race, Domenicali replied: "We will try, because for sure it's something that we need to do.

"If we win, it's easy - no calculations!"

Although Red Bull took a one-two finish in Abu Dhabi last season, Domenicali doesn't think that is necessarily a good form guide.

"We know that the Red Bull is strong, it was very strong last year, but last year we were in a different scenario, we had stopped development," he said.

Asked if he expected Ferrari to be in better shape in Abu Dhabi than it was in Brazil, he said: "I think so... I hope."

He felt Alonso's third place behind the Red Bulls at Interlagos was the best that could have been achieved given Ferrari's rival's pace and the fact that Alonso had only qualified fifth and been caught behind surprise pole-sitter Nico Hulkenberg early in the race.

"For sure the result is very good considering the position that we had in qualifying," Domenicali said.

"Considering the situation, it was the best result that we could have taken, considering all the things that happened on the first lap, and with Hulkenberg.

"For me it's great that we are there [in the title fight] at the last race, that's fantastic."
