Hamilton: Alonso could be one of the greats

As Fernando Alonso stands on the cusp of a third Drivers' title, former team-mate Lewis Hamilton has been singing his praises.

With the Championship set to be decided at the final race of the season in Abu Dhabi on Sunday, Alonso and Hamilton are both still in the hunt with the Red Bull drivers sandwiched between them.

Alonso, though, is the one who is leading the race, eight points ahead of Mark Webber and 15 in front of Sebastian Vettel while Hamilton is 24 points off the pace.

And although much has been made of the feud between Alonso and Hamilton, which grabbed headlines during their tension-fraught season at McLaren in 2007, Hamilton had only kind words to say about the Ferrari driver.

"If he wins it he deserves to walk in the company of the great names of the past," Hamilton told The Mirror.

"You are going to be very hard put to find someone beat him on raw talent.

"I would have no problems having him as a team-mate but I'm happy with the way I have things now.

"When he comes to Zurich he texts me every now and then to meet up."
Is Lewis indicating to Ferrari that he can be Alonso's team-mate? Those pics of him staring at the Ferrari garages comes to mind. Man, that McLaren must really be bad to drive

I don't believe for a second Fernando would want to meet with Hamilton in private, poidh (picture or it didn't happen).

I remember a scene at a race back in 2008, after Fernando left Macca and was driving for Renault again, when Hamilton came from behind when they were giving autographs to the crowd, trying to put an arm around Fernando's shoulder. And Fernando turned away and shook off that hand like saying 'don't touch me you hypocrite'.

Of course he is not the kind of guy to dwell on that, and he respects Hamilton as a driver, but as usual Hamilton needs to make himself look the 'good guy'. Media- trained driving robot.

Is it me, or lately Alonso was passing Lewis with such an ease? In Brasil Alonso needed only two laps (whereas for Hulkenberg five laps) and in Korea Alonso passed Lewis right after the safety car restart....and in both cases Lewis was running wide....very odd.

Reading these words from Hamilton, it makes me think of Xmas. You know, Santa and the reindeer. Wasn't there one called Rudolph?
That's it, Rudolph the brown-nosed reindeer, he could run as fast as the others, he just couldn't pull up as quick

I know this since 2007: Alonso is for Ramilton the same as Kryptonite is for Superman. Ramilton's biggest mistakes are frecuently provoked by Alonso's pressure.

the fanboys say, Hamilton has the edge over Fernando, but now he is trying to be friends and mucking up his braking all the time?

I think Fernando has the edge over him. You don't just say, he showed the behaviour of a bad wdc, then go meet up with him.

Oh and if Mika Hakkinen, Emerson Fittipaldi are greats, then fernando is already a great, as they have won the same number os titles.

Hamilton has actually said a whole lot more about this.

    http://m.guardian.co.uk/sport/2010/n...t&type=article

Meanwhile, Hamilton has not ruled out working alongside Alonso at Ferrari, even though the pair had a difficult relationship at McLaren in 2007, when the Spaniard was unsettled by the rookie brilliance of his team-mate.

Hamilton said: "I think we are so much stronger now to be able to deal with it. I have no problems having him as a team-mate. I am happy with the way I have things now. It's fantastic but I don't think it's impossible for us."

Hamilton is happy at McLaren. But that will only remain the case as long as the team continues to produce a competitive car. McLaren have won just three drivers' world championships in the two decades since the late Ayrton Senna's last title in 1991. Ferrari have picked up six in that time.

The chances of Hamilton and Alonso working alongside each other at Ferrari are still remote because Alonso runs the show at the Scuderia. He sees himself as the No1 driver in any team he drives for, and that is certainly the case now, as Felipe Massa takes a subservient role.

Hamilton added: "I wouldn't be the Massa side of the team and I wouldn't expect him to be the Massa side of the team either. I would want us to be equal as they are here [at McLaren]. At the end of the day Fernando has proved that he is one of the best drivers here. You say that we are all great drivers but he is one of the top, top drivers. One of the best.

"You are going to be very hard put to put someone next to him and find they beat him through raw talent. He definitely deserves it [a third world title]. He has come a long way. He drives for a great team and has achieved an incredible amount so you have to give him his dues."

I would not be too unhappy if Lewis came to Ferrari certainly on a driving level.

Plus you get the bonus of seeing how some of the Brit media copes with it

I would vomit if Lewis came to Ferrari. I would just have to support his teammate instead. Or hide until he left to go to another team.

I've said for awhile now that nothing would make the Ferrari hating McLying lovers madder than Hamilton and Alonso being teamamtes at Ferrari, swapping out WDC victories year after year. It would make them crazy.

No doubt Lewis is good enough as a driver to drive for Ferrari. But it just would not work out.
The man does not fit in. He has a totally different view and philosophy about things. Fernando, with his latin roots is feeling like in warm bath at Ferrari, but Lewis just would not understand them and they would not understand him.
Don't do it. Not ever. It will cause trouble, a lot of trouble.

When Fernando signed by McCheaters i knew that was a big, big mistake. He was born to Ferrari, and the time showed i was right.

Wow! He really is heaping praises on Alonso. Maybe he IS hinting to Ferrari that he is wants to join the team.
Next to Alonso, he is the best driver on the grid... but it would be a HUGGEEE mistake for Ferrari to take him in. Neither Nando nor lewis will ever agree to play or even contemplate being second. It will be a bomb waiting to explode. I do not think stefano will want that on his hands.
I think we are fine with our current drivers. Felipe might well be in the thick of it next year with the Pirellis.

however, purely for speculation and some fun.. it would be fun to watch Fair uncles Rons face if he finds his golden child standing at the Ferrari office with an application form.

I think he is looking forward to being the Ferrari Mop Guy so that in 2 or 3 years, once he gains the trust of the team they will allow him to drive one of the cars .

It seems he is trying to motivate McLaren to produce something good, or warning the tifosi that he may some day end up in Maranello. I don't know what's more unlikely of the two, although I'm sure they making a dominating car is no longer in their genetic code.

It's times like these when I find myself wondering what would be the correct path that I consider WWED, What would Enzo do?

Enzo would sign Hamilton and threaten he and Alonso with a fate worse than death if they don't get along.

At the present time i would not want Hamilton at Ferrari. Just as i didn't want Schumacher in a Ferrari in 94 or Alonso in Ferrari in 05.

    Things happen, drivers change.

Hamilton in a ferrari 2016? Why not. I wouldn't know.
