The drawing shows the aero front wheel fairings we used in 2010, it was an innovation we brought out last year - where we "pushed the limit" so to speak because the fairing were supposed to be banned (I think because of the Renault problem the year before). Anyway, I'm wondering if we will have an upgrade to this concept, because, all the other teams can copy them now. In fact, I wonder if any of the other teams will copy them?

There is a new rule limiting the total surface area of the wheel spokes for next year and as such the ones run by Ferrari this year will now be illegal.

They can still try to design them as much as possible to help but it will be significantly less radical than this year.

Alonso to debut new Ferrari at Valencia test

Fernando Alonso will be doing the driving when Ferrari's new car for 2011 makes its track debut early next month.

That is the claim of the Spanish sports newspaper Marca, adding that the single seater will be launched on a day between January 25 to 29 at the team's Maranello headquarters.

When pre-season testing then kicks off at Valencia's Cheste circuit a few days later, 2010 championship runner-up Alonso will be at the wheel on February 1 and 2, Spanish radio Cadena COPE also reported.

After Valencia, more F1 group tests are scheduled in February at the Jerez and Barcelona circuits, before the circus moves to Bahrain in March for the final test and the 2011 season opener.

I think this car will be all Alonso. In other words, the team will only listen to Alonso for input. Massa will just have to adjust.

Ferrari targets aero gains to catch Red Bull

Ferrari has restructured its aerodynamics department and upgraded its wind tunnel in a bid to track down the championship-winning Red Bull team in 2011.

That is the announcement of the Maranello based team's chief designer Nikolas Tombazis, after Red Bull's car proved the class of the field for the second consecutive season last year.

Ferrari would have won the drivers' title if not for the race strategy blunder in Abu Dhabi, but Ferrari figures including Tombazis openly admit that the F10 was not as quick as the RB6.

"Mainly in the area of aerodynamics our car was not as good as the Red Bull," Athens-born Tombazis told the German magazine Sport Bild.

"That's why we have restructured the aerodynamics department, upgraded our wind tunnel and launched an ambitious development programme.

"And of course we are looking to have new and innovative components," he added.

Fernando Alonso will give Ferrari's 2011 car its track debut at the Valencia group test beginning 1 February.

"But we are expecting a fairly big step up for the first race," revealed Tombazis. "The configuration has a lot of development potential."

    Working on the new chassis

Maranello, 7 January – These are busy times for Scuderia Ferrari Marlboro as it prepares for the start of another season of track activity, which gets underway on 1st February at Cheste, near Valencia (Spain,) when the first of four test sessions gets underway, prior to the start of the 2011 World Championship.

This morning, the Car Assembly department took delivery of the first chassis of the new car, which goes by the code number 288. Engineers and mechanics are already working on it, going through the usual early-build procedures. The next big step comes at the end of January, when the complete car will be unveiled in Maranello. Holiday time for the Scuderia Ferrari Marlboro drivers is running out.

As from this coming Monday, Fernando Alonso, Felipe Massa, Marc Gené, Giancarlo Fisichella and Jules Bianchi will be in Madonna di Campiglio for the start of the twenty first edition of “Wrooom, the event that that has traditionally marked the start of the season, with the Scuderia Ferrari Marlboro drivers being joined on the snow capped mountains by their two wheeled colleagues from the Ducati Marlboro Team, along with members of the specialist press.

McLaren plans interim car for first test

    http://www.autosport.com/news/report.php/id/88834

It worked for Red Bull last year but I wouldn't like to see a red interim car in Valencia.

Can't wait to see the new car. Tombazis says the car lining up on the grid in Bahrain will be very very different than the one they launch in Jan 2011. Thats the part I love the most!

We've been promised different a lot but it never really looks that different. Maybe this time it will be.. change the wings to black with White santander writing and have gold rims.. that's something I would love.

I think he means more aerodynamic parts rather than livery

believe me the changes will be minor for the eye. every season they say that the car will be completely different for the first race. I can't remember that really happened except for I thought the 2006 car.

It looks so bulky and huge.....like one of those bulls in a bull fight..........Thank god this is just an artist's impression........all this bulk of the car will only add weight....and it might look very nice in pics but its performance will definitely be bad........and already we can see this is against regulations.....the wheel covers are not allowed REMEMBER??!!

I am not talking about the asesthetics.. I am talking about the new lightweight material which is rumored to be used + a couple of innovations that leaves the competition scratching their heads

What's the penalty for racing with full on tobacco advertising? If it's just a fine shouldn't Ferrari and Marlboro just pay it and race with full Marlboro livery on? Screw the doc's. I don't smoke, but let people make up their own minds.
