Apparently Vettel is the new Senna :|

    http://www.autosport.com/news/report.php/id/88396

If Vettel is the new Senna, then by those standards I'm the new Albert Einstein since I have a mild interest in physics.

Seriously, this guy can't pass any of the top runners without crashing into them. Sure Senna crashed a lot too, but he made it stick more times than not.

Give him a few years and he probably will be. Not right now though.

It's a huge name to live up to though.

That's life, some people would have gone mad if Alonso had won it.

Vettel is a big talent but he won in the last race with the fastest car at his disposal.

    Time will tell.

Definitely one of a kind on a whole. I think they're comparing ability rather than the person however.

In my opinion, Sebastien Vettel is like Sebastien Vettel.

You can't really say 'this is the new senna' 'this is the new schumacher' things.

I'm sure, Vettel wouldn't like these comparisions and would say he wants to be his own man.

Am I the only one who is a bit tired of the huge number of "new Sennas" that we have got over the last few years?

From the top of my head I can remember "XXX is the new Senna" or "XXX is as good as Senna" headlines where XXX has been Alonso, Hamilton, Button (yes, Button too) and now Vettel!

Argh, these kind of statements MASSIVELY wind me up!!! No Vettel is NOT the new effing Senna!!!

The likes of Senna, Gilles Villeneuve, Schumacher, etc. are all gods in their own rights and eras, and these kind of comparisons make a mockery of them and everyone else. So Sebastian Vettel is just Sebastian Vettel!

Otherwise how many new Sennas and new Schumachers can we have around?! Argh!

    The future is RED

He was 1 strategy failure from Ferrari apart from becoming the laughing stock of F1, losing a championship with a completely dominant car that could easily have won 19 out of 19 races, but then he lucks into the championship in the last race and he's the new Senna... That Senna guy must have been a pretty average driver right?

Well if you look at in this light the same could be said about fernando, the only reason nando had a chance since the begining was because the redbull kept smoking before the finish line, so yes luck always plays parts.

But i agree with not comparing vettel or anyone to senna, cause they were comparing hamilton to senna cause he likes when it rains... it's really a big expectation to live up to, better to just be themselves than anybody like gilles or senna.

Senna was senna as Shumacher is schumacher and Vettel is Vettel, never understood the point of all this comparation... Vettel is a good driver we may hear from him from now on or not who knows... and i reckon all this "he can't overtake" talk is a little bit rubbish... with 2 mistakes in this season now he has been tagged like that, we already saw him making some good moves.. as he did back in 2008, most notable that move he did against hamilton in the wet and that make a lot of us jump our sits as it meant Massa was the champion... anyway we all know how that ended... so all this overtaking issues is... i don't know.. compared to Hamilton the so called "king of overtakings" yeah is easy to have lot of overtakes in the season when you start back in the pack of slow cars... but when you have an Alonso Kubica or Hulkenberg with almost good car as yours .... then the overtaking is gone

That is if you remove Alonso, Lewis, Kubica and others in the equation. If these guys will have the same car performance like the red bull in the following season wont stand a chance. Unlike us we were 3rd fastest, 3rd in WCC but still alonso almost had it.

He barely managed to win the WDC with the best car on the grid and a paranoid team-mate. Way too early to make comparisons.

If Alonso had driven the RBR he would have the title in his pocket from the 10th race... Are they serious telling those things?? Vettelfrenia has already started, so, hold on there is more to come

Vettel lost 60? points to mechanical problems, but that car could have won almost double the points total he had at the end of the season, Vettel was favourite to win every single race and he cracked more often than not, only the car wouldn't allow him to lose many positions when he messed up.
It's almost as if in 2004 Alonso or Button came within 2 points of Michael Schumacher, it would be a pitiful display from Schumy.

Vettel should have had at the very least 300 points even with mechanical DNFs, and with 400 points it could be argued he was a top driver and one worthy of being compared with one of the greats. 256 out of 475 possible points, with a car that outqualifies other cars by 0.5-1.5s depending on the driver?

Vettel is talented but nowhere near in Alonso's league. I place him behind Hamilton in terms of potential too if i'm honest. Haven't really seen anything totally outstanding from him except that he is very fast in a very fast car. Kind of similar to Kimi in a way.

Very much agree. But , he is still very young and may improve immensely with age

Can the grid hold any more "new Senna's", soon it will be like a version of A1GP but instead of the same car, it will be only "new Senna's" driving the cars

yep agree with you there Stu. When he is in the pack having to make up places he makes way to many mistakes, crashing into other drivers. Yeah he looks great because of the car, he is way overated. He is good, but not in or ever will be up there in the legend status.

I agree the Great Gilles Villeneuve would not have been able to drive the way he did if he was driving todays Ferrari
But i am sure he would have tried
some people call Hamster a racer but in my opinion he has not got a 10th of Gilles racing skill

I honestly do not get why people and the press likes to compare when it is absolutely impossible to make these kind of comparisons. Even saying who is the best ever in F1 would be impossible.
I guess the only objective thing is to look at the stats.
But who has not been "Senna" this year ? it's just a cheap shot at some publicity and a disgrace to Ayrton Senna him self.
