How can this be? "Sauber F1 Team welcomes Tequila Jose Cuervo"

I just can't understand how this is possible for other teams. Even the Johnnie Walker logo on another team's car. I thought tobacco AND alcohol are banned? Also, isn't it contradicting that alcohol is there in F1 and there is a promotion to "Make Roads Safe"? Why not start with "don't drink and drive" by making alcohol brands disappear and not visible just like the always scrutinized Marlboro (or bar code)?

I don't know, It really just doesn't make sense to me. any light on this?

I think it's a grey area really. Johnnie Walker for example supported the FIA in the make roads safer with big $$$. As I see it tobacco is bad in any way, while alcohol CAN be good in small dosses.

If any company has a product it can sell why it can't be advertised is confusing to me. Even tobaco can be advertised if it is a new product (at least in my country).
I say make them pay more to health institutes and for public awareness and that's it realy.

    Ehhh politics...

I think, like cigarette advertising used to be, it depends on the country. France has banned TV alcohol advertising, which doesn't matter as there's no race there (Monaco doesn't count) - but I've just googled and seen that India has banned it too, so I'm assuming the cars won't have alcohol sponsorship over the Indian GP weekend.

I thought that it was banned as well, but I don't really think we can complain about others having that kind of sponsor

Really weird huh? Let's just hope that this hypocrisy ends quick, but for now, let's hope (really hope) that we get a grand prix with full-on advertising (and overtaking). Just like the good ol' days! Yeah!

Just to update you on alcohol issue in India, people do promote & advertise alcohol in India in a smart manner. Vijay Mallaya the owner of Force India himself promotes his breweries by "Kingfisher music CD's". Everyone knows in reality what they are trying to promote..
So don't be surprised to see FI having alcohol sponsorship on their cars & others are made to remove if they don't "innovate"

I know its weired but thats the case

How much does it cost a team to paint over their car for a race, and then paint it back with the sponsors logos back on a few times a year?

The logos are stickers, not paint. They will just take one off and re apply it.

Ah thanks! So we might see amended logos/adverts then perhaps - like they used to modify the cigarette sponsorship. I always liked how Jordan turned 'Benson and Hedges' into 'Buzzin' Hornets' on their cars in countries where fag advertising was banned. Clever.

Wow! That's great. I often wondered when Marlboro was written all over our cars, how beat it had to be to paint them . Now I know!

That would have been "Bitter and Shizzle" in the case of Ralf
