2011 Ferrari Now Called F150th Italia

just found this, if needed go in another thread, sorry.

Thursday 10 February at 14:31 : Feb.10 (GMM) Ferrari has changed the name of its 2011 formula one car.

It emerged on Thursday that Ford is suing the famous Italian marque after Ferrari called this year's single seater F150.

The name was a tribute to the 150th anniversay of Italian unification, but Ford owns the trademark to F-150 for its famous pickup truck model.

Subsequent to the reports of legal action, Ferrari has twice on Thursday published amendments to earlier reports that referred to the F150.

"Before the lunch break, Fernando Alonso completed just over two hundred kilometres at the wheel of the Ferrari F150th Italia," said the team in one bulletin from last week's Valencia testing.

And in another amended report, Ferrari said there had been "two million hits from 149 countries for the Ferrari F150th Italia on the Ferrari (web)site".

Referring to the recent launch of the car, the team alerted readers that "web surfers were able to follow the presentation of the Ferrari F150th Italia" live.

So really, it's still an F150.

Unless they're saying F one fiftieth Italia. Which I doubt.

    I'm still saying F one fifty T H Italia.

Love the way they've gotten around it though!

I can only see they've done themselves harm by opening this lawsuit. It probably would have been good publicity for their truck if nothing else. Now they just look pathetic.

    Ferrari explains…
    February 10, 2011 by joesaward

Ferrari has responded to Ford’s legal action about the use of the F150 designation, by saying that it has sent a letter to Dearborn explaining that its 2011 Formula 1 car is actually called the “F150th Italia”, but that this was abbreviated at the launch and that it “never has, nor ever will be used as the name of a commercially available product”. With an Italian tongue stuck firmly in its cheek Ferrari said that “there will definitely not be a production run of single-seaters”.

Ferrari said that the nomenclature of its F1 cars were linked to a chronological order, although in exceptional circumstances the cars are used to honour special events.

“This year the decision was taken to dedicate the car name to a particularly significant event – the 150th anniversary of the Unification of Italy,” Ferrari said.

“Ferrari believes that its own contender in the forthcoming F1 championship cannot be confused with other types of commercially available vehicle of any sort whatsoever, nor can it give the impression that there is a link to another brand of road-going vehicle. Therefore it is very difficult to understand Ford’s viewpoint on the matter.

“Despite this and to further prove it is acting in good faith and that it operates in a completely correct manner, Ferrari has decided to ensure that in all areas of operation, the abbreviated version will be replaced at all times with the full version, Ferrari F150th Italia.”

So the F150th will be taking on the McLaren MP4-26, the FW33 and so on…

The Ford F-150 can now go on being sold to millions of proud rednecks across the United States of America, without fear that they may pick up a Ferrari supercar by accident…

Watch it now..your comment about American rednecks is a little bellow the belt. There are a lot of people that own the f-150 pickup and they are not all rednecks.

Not my quote, it was the authors although I must admit I did think the use of the term was slightly limiting given the general availability of the F-150 (non-Italia) in the US - it was the rest of the sentence I liked.

Ferrari have renamed their 2011 F1 chassis the "Ferrari Mondeo." They trust this will bring an end to the matter.

That was exactly the point. Ford has no merit because its not even the same product, hell Ferrari F150 is not even a product at all.

Ferrari should have taken Ford to court just to embarrass them

Utterly ludicrous behaviour by Ford. Having moved up some time ago from a Dagenham Dustbin I would NEVER go back, even if the American parent company was not such a bunch of cretins..

Fords are adequate (just), dull and soulless and nobody in their right mind would drive one unless they had one helluva limited choice..

    Rant over!

Not sure why Ferrari just didn't call it the Ferrari 150 and avoid calling it the F150th Italia which sounds ridiculous....

And can we try no to be so condescending about the brand, some people here might own them.... they shouldn't have to face ridicule for it....

Not that I own a Ford, but their reliability and performance have both increased leaps and bounds in the last 10 years.... I wouldn't mind having the base mustang 5.0 or ponying up for the shelby.... the mustang 5.0 kept up with an M3 around one of the tracks in Texas or Arizona on an inside line comparison test I saw a while back.... they're doing very well for themselves and were the only American car manufacturer not to require federal aid during the crisis

I've owned a lot of Fords, including several Mustangs and Trucks. Used to think their trucks were the toughest made, but now they're dead to me, as in...

Typical big corporation behavior. without a sense of humor, lack of intelligence and class. If they were smart instead of a lawsuit they would send an open letter/message to ferrari joking about it, like wishing them to win GP's with the F150, it would be alot more appealing. I highly doubt that a truck f150 owner was going to be feeling insulted by ferrari having such special and unique car called F150.

And people wonder why the financial crises happened in the first place, the mindset is still the same, nothing fresh, just bureaucracy behind every thought, from beggining to end.

    Better than Government Motors

Seriously, they've spent billions developing the brand. They have a right to protect it.

    Last one..

Imagine Burger King coming out with an order of fries (say) called the Big Max. Even though it wasn't a burger, McDonald's would sue in a heartbeat.

Yes, they would. However, burgers and fries are comparable in so much that they are marketed to the same demographic, are related products in direct competition with one another, and are both available as consumer items.

A Ford truck and an F1 car are not.
