    The ultimate F1 car?

My husband just came up with a question and since I could not give him an answer I´d like to ask you all:

Which Formula 1 car was the best car ever? Which of the cars in 60years championship could have competed against all other cars of all eras of F1 history? Short: which was the ultimate car?

I would have to say that the F2002 or F2004 were the best F1 cars ever, but then again I could be wrong.
F2002 has won 15 out of the 17 races and the F2004 has won 15 races again out of the 18 races.
So the SF-24 has been a decent car. Lets hope that the totally redesigned from the ground up SF-25 contender will be a beast that will give us tifosi something to smile about.

    Agreed

The McLaren that won 15 out of 16 was a great car, too (obviously)

At first I thought you meant a theoretical car without being limited by the rules :p

Personally, my vote goes to the F2002. I think it was the height of F1 technology before they decided to start limiting cost, as well as hampering technical performance due to Ferrari's dominance.

While F2004 was a dominating car as well, I think given the rules and the 1 engine per weekend, its couldn't possibly be more powerful than the F2002 on a qualifying setting.

yes, i have to agree with you too on this one; that was the MP4-4....but Senna driving it too, was also something to do with it....

F2002 and F2004 were best cars of the recent generation. But, id say maybe the Lotus 79. It was the first "wing car". Took F1 my total surprise. Plus that JPS colours lush. Looked really nice car.

But then id cannt deny the Williams FW14. That was way ahead of its time in technical side, active suspension, traction control, semi auto box. But it was, as with alot of Neweys cars, fragile.

Well, i would say the 2004 cars were the best, as they hold lap records for most circuits (i think).

And we all know who was the daddy of them all.

The F2004 would win every F1 championship there has ever been, with the right driver of course.

I think in terms of absolute pure performance, the F2004 could beat any F1 car from any generation, it was just that dominant!

But over a single season, the McLaren MP4-4 is hard to deny, since Prost and Senna won all but one race in 1988 between them with that car. In terms of results, I can't think of any other car that dominant?

    The future is RED

i'm just saying that Senna was, is and will ever be a legend; NO one will ever come close to his talent, not to say that Shumi wasn't good...dont' get me wrong, Schumi too has his place in my heart too....but we all know that SENNA was by far the BEST driver out there...

i would count Brabham fan-car in, reading from past correspondence about how superior it is on several conditions, i think if they left them unbanned, it would be the greatest car ever..

but judging by its shape and its engine, my favourite is Prost's 641

F2004 because it was too fast reaching around 360Kmph in Monza and also holds fastest lap in most circuits and also was having 20,000 rpm engine with a lot of downforce. Bridgestone also played an important role......

Compare lap times and the F2004 is the ultimate F1 car.

When you talk about a given car against its given competition, I personally think the F2002 is the best car of all time. Not only did it dominate the season, shattering all sorts of records, it also won all of its races in the start of the 2003 season.

Senna was the best of his generation in the type of cars of the time, I doubt he would have the patience for the modern cars and there playstation multiple settings. Its like comparing a hands on 70's to 80's engineer to a modern day engineer who uses software to design everything.
That's not to say he wouldn't do well driving but I doubt any driver now could stand out like he and MS did in their era.

    Not an easy question.

For me actually it's the F2002, and then the F2004. F2002 came out of "nowhere" and really swept EVERYTHING away. People could not believe what happened. Even Schumacher came to say that it was a car out of another planet (in so many words).

F2004 on the other hand, as many said already was a beast. It's holding most of the records and its sheer dominance pretty much says it all.

As for the McLaren, we need not forget that altho it was a VERY fast car indeed , undeniably, it was driven by perhaps two of the best drivers of all times. So it' s really not so strange it has such a record. Prost AND Senna.

you can also get the red bull x1, which is waht an f1 car could look like today if there no rules.
apparently it can lap suzuka in less than a minute

I think 2005 cars were the best and fastest cars but they had to use only one set of tyres for the whole race.

They were the last V10 and very soon later they started with the cost cutting fever.
