Ferrari reveal new logo design for 2011

Ferrari have changed their controversial racing team logo, with the new design to come into force from January 1 next year.

The team were recently criticised regarding the barcode emblem that had previously adorned their cars and is still on display on the team uniform.

Given Formula One's ban on tobacco advertising, angry lobbyists claimed the barcode was too closely associated with Marlboro cigarettes, the primary brand of sponsors Philip Morris.

It resulted in Ferrari stripping the barcode from their cars ahead of the Spanish Grand Prix in Barcelona in early May as it had been prominently on show on the engine cover.

The new arrangement is more angular in shape, and still bears the trademark Prancing Horse and the words 'Scuderia Ferrari'.

At the unveiling inside the team's motorhome in the Silverstone paddock ahead of this weekend's British Grand Prix, team principal Stefano Domenicali said: "All the activities relating to the racing department will use this logo.

"It will be on the cars, uniforms, drivers' overalls and Ferrari driver academy activities."

Regarding Philip Morris, Domenicali added: "We share with our main sponsor all our graphics, and this is something we have done together.

"I can confirm our team name will still be Scuderia Ferrari Marlboro. There will be no change."

My first impression was: they got rid of the barcodes and made it look like a packet of Marlboros. Nice!

One thing is for sure Stu, Ferrari's PR department definitely know how to wind people up (specially those stupid EU bureaucrats who came up with the daft rule in the first place)!

I was laughing so hard when I saw it. Its more of an in your face advert rather than subliminal. Phillip Morris is getting their their money's worth with all the publicity going around the logo.

Yeah, some very clever people from Philip Morris must have suggested that one. I'm surprised they didn't incluse a whisp of (tyre) smoke at the top to cap it all off

I wish, when the current contract with Phillip Morris runs out, Ferrari would renew it for another million years.

Well, it looks ok to me, it's not like the current logo was setting the world ablaze so if it pleases the sponsors and gets the health autorities or whatever off Ferrari's back, that's perfect.

Its great new design. Looks slightly retro aswell LOVE IT.

Plus it do look like pack of fags. Much better than barcode as now.

I Really like it, even if we now dont have any particular link with Marlboro in public. i guess they ``hang around`` us for some more years to come.
I Wonder when they will have a new main sponsor if the logo will change again, or if this will stay as the Racing Ferrari logo. Hope so, cause it is really nice.
Good to have full branded Ferrari gear for everyone from next year onwards.

Did they felt those bars looked like cigarettes?

Other than that, I don't see how a bar code can remind me of anything, well, except bar codes.
