    If they can run without KERS and still take the start like Vettel did with Hamilton behind him with KERS then it seams like everybody has to play catch up yet again

    Clearly it wasnt.

    Had Ferrari something to do with this. I remember Scuderia took a different aproach to KERS been mandatory?? They wanted to bring their own design or something.
    Anyways, RB out played everyone. But at the same time Ferrari failed to bring car which is fast with KERS. Renault with KERS was faster, and Macca. Even without Vettel Ferrari would have been left to 3rd.
    This is what i thought:

    @wikipedia:

    * In the week leading up to the 2010 Spanish Grand Prix, a formal proposal was submitted to FOTA by British engineering firm Flybrid to supply the entire grid with a mandatory, standardized KERS unit, following campaigns led by Ferrari and Renault to see the technology re-introduced for the 2011 season.[66] After the 2010 Canadian Grand Prix, Ferrari confirmed they would be running the KERS device on their 2011 car,[67] but the system will not be mandatory.
    ----------
    So basically Ferrari wanted to bring their own KERS and thats the reason KERS is not mandatory.

    True that.

    I was just thinking the reasons behind the mandatory issue.

    Would it been better if this Flyprid had brought the standard KERS for all teams. Rather than end up with RB not using it, and they clearly gained an advantage for not running the thing.

    They all knew the KERS wasn't mandatory. If it gives an advantage not to use it some races they should be ready to not use it. Two different packages one for KERS tracks, one for non KERS tracks. I though it was kind of mandatory, but the teams knew it wasn't.

    The question is, does it gives an advantage not to use it at some circuits?

    I agree that 2 different packages should be used. And RB is clearly using that strategy.
