We can't expect Fernando to deliver miracles, he is just the driver and he can't do it alone. He needs the engineers just like they need the driver in this very complex process to become the fastest and most reliable team.
They will deliver but, just as it took Michael more than a few weekends, it will take time. Last year they came close already in their first season together. And this season is far from over!

    Don't forget though,
Ferrari when Schumacher arrived was way more uncompetitive, unreliable and not managed well...
And they managed to make the best team of all times...

Nowadays we are not like that, but anyway Michael had the advantage of unlimited testing and he was the best on this and the best to improve any minor detail.
Since no testing now, we will never know if Alonso could be that good too...

Very true, Alonso has much less chances to do something in the development area and that's a shame and in his case a waste of talent.....

Alonsomaniac how can you be sure, that he would be that good?
    I'm not...

Surely Ferrari would perform better if testing was allowed, because that's how this team knows to improve...

But the same would happen even with Kimi and Massa...

In what extent, Alonso would be like Schumacher, or in what extent Kimi would give good feedback if he spent 12-14 hours everyday running at Fiorano as Michael did (he even had a bed to sleep there), we will never know...

And I will not do any assumptions, cause it's all hypothetical and therefore useless...

    Greig,
    you mean Alonso improved Renault?

We ain't really have any proof of this...
If you ask my opinion, Renault 04-05 was a very smart car, with 72degrees engine angle and very well balanced.
Minor tweaks from the drivers maybe.
And the drivers were Alonso, Trulli, Fisichela.
    2 of them, very experienced....................

Renault's engineers seemed to suggest his info was very valuable, who can tell

    Maybe yes...
But he might improved with his feedback a very good car, but would he be able to improve a bad car?

Because I tend to believe the people who worked with him at Renault AND McLaren when they say that he really IS that good. After all, if anyone can tell it would be them wouldn't it?

But let's be honest, Alonso is not a magician. He , nor anybody else, can turn a bad car into a winner on his own. You need a complete good team to do that. Ferrari, for instance?
(not that we have a bad car now)

Well if he ever works with Ross Brawn, we may know if he would be that good as Schumacher...

    Until then,
we know he gives a good feedback for cars that already have potential...
But you cannot know how good he would be running endlessly around Fiorano, or how good Massa, Kimi, could be...
They might be even better than Michael, but you will never know...

Lol at Failonso. The car is so shitty. Even Gaston Mazzacane is better car developer.

Agree but when Michael joined the team it was'nt a winning team like Ferrari in 2007 and oh so near in 2008.
I guess what I am trying to say is new people were brought in at the same time as Michael to re-structure the team. I don't think we are looking at a similar situation here.

You're right about that, the situation is quite different, and maybe we can never compare them.
Facts are that Michael was great in what he did there, and fact is that Renault and McLaren say that Alonso is great in technical feedback and in helping develop the car in the right direction.
Fact is also that testing is banned now, which of course gives Alonso much less opportunity in helping in development now - while in the past Michael had all the mileage he could ask for.

So maybe it will take Alonso more time than it took Michael, but I believe he can do the same and that Ferrari will win champioships with Alonso.

Don't you worry Greig. Next 'filming day' is coming soon. (Macca RB fans wont be happy)

Alonso can lead the team to get those front end problems sorted and maybe sort the flexi wing we have coming.
