Yep, that's the Bricklin all right. It was considered a safety car at the time. Funny it doesn't look bad in yellow with the oversized tires and stripes along the bottom. The first one I saw was brand new at an Oldsmobile dealer and had stress fractures in the plastic body work. Correct me if I'm wrong but he first ones had Ford engines and he later switched to American Motors. This guy Bricklin was really a trip, sort of like that guy Tucker and his car attempts. Anyone out there know what happened to his Chinese sports car idea?

You are supposed to support the team but ask for the pitstop crew, strategists, domenicalli, montezemolo and massa to be sacked. In particular, the longer you have been asking for Massa to be sacked the Ferrarier you are.
Being insulting to Kimi, Schumy and Alonso (when he leaves the team) is a must, but Ferrari drivers from more than 20 years ago are vintage and thus untouchable.
Feeling warm and happy when you see red, even if it's in a multiple car collision, proves your undying loyalty, but only if this symptom appears together with strong adversion to chrome and silver or it just means you are a sociopath and maybe future serial killer. Well, it makes you either a diehard Ferrari fan or a vampire.

Finally, drinking Red Bull is ok if it sucks, but if their recipe changes and it starts to rock and you still like it, then you are a traitor.

For me, being a Ferrari (ergo F1) fan means sharing a passion for our team. We all arrive for different reasons, some "are born" with Ferrari in their blood, some "achieve" a love of Ferrari, and other have the passion "thrust upon them". The point is we all get here in different ways (follow a driver here, then get infected with the Tifosi bug. But, those that stay, simply love our team. So I don't mind seeing driver fans arrive to follow their pilot, and I know there's a pretty good chance they will stay - even after their drivers have retired or moved on.

I would also echo Scudfans comment that, a real fan will stay true in good times and bad, and they won't slag the team or any team members off. You can have a constructive comment without making derogatory comments.

    Forza Ferrari!!!!!

I always thought the Bricklins were not bad looking, a guy here in my hometown had one I used to see a lot. Not sure what engines they used. The Chinese car deal fell through. Malcom is now trying to sell something you attach to your car which turns water into hydrogen.

Thanks for the info. As a new member into cars, I think I got carried away with the back and forth on subjects not related to my original posting. For this I apologize as this is the F1 forum not the general. I will try to keep this in mind for the future. It was a lot of fun as well as being informative. Thanks to all.

OK DINO: I get you point, so I guess Im not a Ferrari fan, so be it. I am an F1 fan, I just happen to follow one driver at a time wherever he drive next year. I followed Nelson Piquet, when he drove for Beneton, Braham, and Willims back in the 80s. Not a particular constructor fan. So I have followed Fernado Alonso from his time with Renault, McCheats and now Ferrari. I may not be a die hard Ferrari fan BUT do want the entire team to do well, including Massa. Overall I am an F1 fan!

Obviously they both won't be there forever. I would think that anyone who follows them to another team was not really a Ferrari fan, the same could be said for anyone who now considers themselves a fan because they followed Fernando from Renault for example. I thought this site was for fans of team Ferrari. Maybe some of the people I've seen post threads need to set up a separate F1 drivers site.

It's a strange thing, at times you might think being a ferrari fan is about the cars, or the drivers that are now driving the cars, but then other times you realise that it's alot more than just support the ferrari f1 cars, it's alot also about support the people who makes them, the people in maranello at the factory.

it's a great thing that this have a man's last name Enzo "Ferrari", but that's the way this is i guess, it's about this weird concept of being part of an italian family, whoever is in, they somehow remain in for life, doesn't really matter or makes much difference how they came to the family, they are here, they are ferrari all the same, and yes there are times where we fight alot and are too hard on certain members, but again, just like a family, you might fight, but you never really abandon them, or in this case, starts to support other cars agaisnt the red ones.

if you are still confused as to what makes a Ferrari fan, stick around, i have a feeling you will not regret, trust me, once it's there, you will ask yourself every race weekend "Ferrari, where have you been all my life?"

    Ditto....

I have been following Alonso's career ever since he first started in F1 .... and up till now I have not really considered myself a team fan of any of the teams he has driven for before... till he joined Ferrari... like you said Ferrari "just get you hooked somehow" so when Alonso eventually retires I will keep on supporting Ferrari and whichever drivers they will have..... .... my blood is Ferrari Red!

To be a Ferrari fan means to love the team, to stay with them in good times and bad times the same way. To still love them when they fail and never say "They must do better", but to say "I hope so much for them to do better." For me this goes for every single part and member of the team.
Before he became red I never liked Fernando, but now he is part of the team I love. I can not force myself to love someone, but he is part of Ferrari and this means for me to respect him and cross my fingers for him no matter if I like him or not. I want him to do well, because he is part of Ferrari now and I love Ferrari including every single part and member. You can not love a part of Ferrari. Either you cheer for the whole team or you are not a true fan IMO.

What makes a Ferrari Fan ??

Having been one since I was 9 years old and watching the occasional Grand Prix that was shown on Black and white TV.

Mainly having to follow F1 racing through newspapers and magazines untill the mid 60's when the BBC started to broadcast all the races on the TV made it very exciting to follow.

In that time I have watched the Legend that is Ferrari grow, I have seen many teams come and go but Ferrari has allways been the constant.

During those 53 years I have been privileged to see the greatest drivers in the sport in action, and the development of the cars.

Maybe its why the old beards like myself, who have seen soo many drivers race in the Red Cars that we dont realy get into Driver worship anymore, we are happy if we feel the current drivers are giving it their all to bring our car home in a good place in every race.

For me a large part of being a Ferrari fan is also to be an F1 fan through and through.

Yea its Ferrari for me Good or Bad, the race to legend status has been won and that name is FERRARI
Its all in the name - FERRARI

Don't know if there was ever a survey to investigate this, but I would bet (my TSN cash ) that a majority of F1 fans starts out that way, being a fan of a driver first before settling down to supporting a particular team. I think it takes a seasoned fan to really appreciate the quality in a team, but then of course if you've watched F1 that long, you'll already have your favorite team and driver in the past. But for most new fans, they are tend to get attracted more towards the driver, as each driver has their own distinct personality that people can easily identify, and so most people becomes a fan of drivers first.

Oh, and me I started out as a Schumi fan after his comeback driver in my home country Sepang '99

Anyway, on to the issue, people are always going to have their own opinions about the team and drivers, and its their rights to have their own thoughts. Its just that, I think we should always be respectful of a community we're at.. There's this saying that starts with "When in Rome...". And I'm not going to be the one to judge others of how much of a fan they are. I just think we should be more respectful to the community we're in.

This is a Ferrari forum, so naturally any constant bashing against our drivers are not a good thing here. And neither is bashing the other driver just to instigate these people. You don't fight fire with fire . Same goes with bashing Ferrari team. I'm sure its acceptable to point out the flaws in our team, like our constant poor pit stop performance, and other obvious stuff, but bashing for the sake of making negative remarks should be avoided.

started out as a Villeneuve fan, and an Enzo fan. Enzo was just crazy and supernatural, and i just got attracted and pulled in to him and his team.

but i actually wasnt born when they were racing, but i was shown the Spanish GP where Villeneuve won, and that was the first race i watched and then my love of ferrari began.

I guess I must just be in the minority. My first recollection of adoration was for a red car that was just irresistible, it ended out being the 312. F1 wasn't covered much where I lived, so I would get most of my news from family members. I was probably aware of drivers before, but the first driver I had any interest in was Niki Lauda (ended out a prat IMO).

You're not a real Ferrari fan unless you have a tattoo to prove it!

just to be clear: not my tattoo

No but really, I was lured into the Ferrari world by a certain Fernando Alonso, and after he retires I will very likely stick with the Scuderia, for numerous reasons.
Then again, my interest in F1 goes back to mid-nineties. I wasn't particularly attached to any team (but always liked Benetton, then Renault) or driver at the time, but simply enjoyed watching the sport (thanks to my friends, mostly). Then became a Jacques fan, or sort of! Then Alonso. But I never was a 'blind fan' (or so I think!), as I also enjoyed watching certain other drivers win, like Kimi. So I'm not even sure if I can be called a 'fan'... Although not that long ago at certain other forums there have been people pointing fingers at me as the biggest Alonso fanboi of the forum, so I dunno now

And being a Ferrari person isnt limited to F1..I mean I will watch any race a Ferrari is in..
Im a racing fan, but I will check the series being shown 1st, if there is a Ferrari, or a Maser (Enzo)
in the race, I will watch and hope my cars win the race, or their division. If 1 of my cars isnt in the race, I find
I lose interest after awhile...I really enjoy watching the 430's, now the 458's running against the Poorsha's, that war started
long ago and has always been a good one. Did you know that at one point, Enzo threatened to leave F1, and actually
built an Indy car? There was even a pic of it in R&T. He didnt take crap from anyone.
I think if some of you driver fans picked up a book on the history of Ferrari, you would find it hugely interesting. U may even become a Ferrari fan!

Don't start me off on tattoos - my first tattoo was the prancing horse, got it done about 15 years ago now. Slippery slope though once you get one you get addicted and you have to get another and another.... I'm currently planning my 4th, 5th and 6th tattoos

Hey Nova I apologized yesterday for discussing things other then my original post I will do it one more time because we are talking about Bricklin, I really admire this guy for going up against the big three as Tucker did before him. Who knows what we would have today if he had been successful. What about Colin who some only know from F1, I always thought of him as the English Enzo. And don't forget guys like Delorean. Sadly we just don't have people like this today and I think it affects F1 in a lot of ways. I'm sure you remember the battles in the old days, 12cyls, v8s and turbos. F1 certainly was more interesting back then. F1 needs to bring back that excitement (see my post in the general forum) instead of fans concentrating so much on hero worship of their favorite driver. Take the reins off the stallion, and the other teams and see how many more Ferrari fans we'll have. Bring on the crazy innovators!

I agree. the only innovation we have these days is

all this blown double front diffuser stuff.

personally, I would prefer to see what teams could do with the engines, suspensions, and gearbox, and all the other mechanical
    parts.
