I'd like to be honest here, I'm French and for that reason I supported Renault and when Alonso joined them I became one of his Fan as we are about the same age and he is a fantastic driver. But when he moved to Ferrari last year I was very worried as it was following the F60 debacle and to me it was just for the money to end his career with a nice pension at the end of it. But their marriage proved me wrong and it made me adulate Ferrari for every aspects they represent in Formula one.

"I cannot judge what he did in his time at Renault and McLaren but I have worked with World Champions Schumacher, Villeneuve and Raikkonen and Fernando is the one who impresses me the most," said Gene.

What's a Ferrari Fan? I thought you'd never ask! I've given this some thought over the past week.

It is someone who saves her pennies - and her husband's - for a year so that they may sit on hot, graffiti- covered trains from Nice to Monaco for three consecutive days in late May and.........
    (a) waits for hours in 40' heat in a tunnel for Felipe to put in an appearance on his moped. He arrives and Ferrari Fan takes photo of him - looking very fed-up (him, not Ferrari fan, she was smiling brightly).
    (b) waits for 45 mins. for Fernando to appear for a press conference outside Ferrari motorhome. So excited when he appears that FF forgets to switch on camera so neither sees him nor gets photo. Ferrari Fan cries.
    (c) Ferrari Fan , dehydrating in sun , clings to wire netting for the 2 1/2 hours of the race at top of Rascasse as FA hurtles past every 70 secs. or so about 2" from back of SV's car a mere few metres away.
    (d) Ferrari Fan, with husband, after race, leaps out from behind foliage placed behind yet more wire netting separating paddock from hoi-poloi, clapping and yoo-hooing. Stefano looks startled, and then, seeing we're unarmed, smiles and waves. FFs feel satisfied.
    (e) FF forces her way to front of railings outside media centre to catch podium drivers on way to interviews. Shout "Well done , Jenson!" as he passes looking happy and waving. A man in red passes, smilng modestly at floor. Realise it's Fernando and she (husband has pushed off for a drink) and the man next to her - who I like to believe was someone from this site - yell "Oooh Fernando, Fernando" and hope he interprets this as praise.
FF so excited she didn't even see Vettel.

Was it all worthwhile? Every moment. But I have developed a lasting distaste for wire netting.

Obviously they both won't be there forever. I would think that anyone who follows them to another team was not really a Ferrari fan, the same could be said for anyone who now considers themselves a fan because they followed Fernando from Renault for example. I thought this site was for fans of team Ferrari. Maybe some of the people I've seen post threads need to set up a separate F1 drivers site.
All I can say in order to answer to your question is this, drivers come and go, teams come and go, but the one constant is Ferrari.

As someone else did say , Ferrari is not just a team, or a car, it's far more than all this.

Perhaps if you can relate to what Villeneuve said , then you can understand what a Ferrari fan is ...

“If someone said to me that you can have three wishes, my first would have been to get into racing, my second to be in Formula 1, my third to drive for Ferrari.”
"If someone said to me that you can have three wishes, my first would have been to get into racing, my second to be in Formula 1, my third to drive for Ferrari" - Gilles Villeneuve

In the past - a long time ago - I was an F1 fan.
Then came Ayrton Senna. I watched every single F1 race he ever drove.....
After he died I was an F1 fan.
Then came Fernando Alonso. In a Minardi....but recognizable as a natural born talent.
So I never was a teamfan.
    Fernando moved to Ferrari.
I discovered what Ferrari really is: an addiction.........
Some day Fernando will retire and leave Ferrari

    I stay.
You can run like the wind, but you'll never outrun the Prancing Horse
