The point being, even as an headline in a trashy tabloid, its still a surprise to see.

Personally, I would suggest a proper thread for all rumor of drivers transfer to Ferrari. Its Ferrari we're talking about, there will always be such rumor of who and who is coming over. So its probably best to file all under a proper thread.

That said, you can't entire blame the posted who started a new thread as looking as this thread, the title hardly suggest that this is a proper thread to post such news. The title make it sounds as if these news is an attack against Massa when it isn't the intention of the poster, so I can understand why someone would be more inclined to post those news elsewhere.

Ultimately, its just so happens that Massa contract runs out next year, but these replacement news is not because everyone wants to see Massa leave, its something that will always be around regardless of whether its Massa, Kimi, Rubens, Schumi, etc. Someday even Alonso is going to announce his retirement or his contract runs out, and you can bet the media is going to go into overdrive running rumors of who will be taking over his role at Ferrari, and there will be a lot of discussion here

McLaren is willing to give Jenson Button a pay rise to stop him moving to the Ferrari Formula One team , the Daily Mail reports on Monday.

The Englishman revealed last week that the Woking based team he joined last season "has an option on me for next year".

At the same time 31 year old Button said he is reluctant to agree a new long term deal, despite boss Martin Whitmarsh admitting he would "quickly" ink a new multi-year contract with the former Brawn driver.

The latest twist in the story was a Ferrari source telling the News of the World newspaper that Ferrari has "checked" with Button's management to see when Button is available as a replacement for Felipe Massa.

Hours after that report was published, the Daily Mail said McLaren is "ready to hand Jenson Button a pay rise".

The newspaper said the British team is taking up the 2012 option on Button "but are so happy with his performances" that in the next few weeks McLaren is "likely to offer him an extended deal on improved terms".

lol. That would be awesome. But more likely to destabilise the other team. Especially McCheaters. With rumours of Lewis wanting to jumping ship to RB.. if even Button leaves, then they are in a soup.
Am sure all this is tosh. But i would love it if we are mind-effing the other teams.

Button set for new McLaren deal

Jenson Button is set to be handed a fresh McLaren deal in the next few weeks, AUTOSPORT has learned, with the team ready to offer improved terms to keep the Briton on board.

On the back of mounting speculation that Ferrari is interested in tempting Button to Maranello to help bolster its own title challenge in the longer term, it is understood that McLaren is prepared to move quickly to tie Button's future down.

Button is currently only under option at McLaren for next year, with the activation clause on the team's side. That situation means that even if Button had tempting offers from elsewhere, he would be unable to move if McLaren wanted him to stay.

A simple take-up of that option is unlikely, though, with Button currently in brilliant form and both team and driver thinking of nothing other than a future together.

AUTOSPORT understands that McLaren is prepared to improve the terms of the original deal to keep the 2009 world champion happy.

Any likely improvement in the contract that Button gets as part of a fresh deal would likely be done in exchange for a lengthier deal - so there is a chance that he could commit his future at McLaren well beyond the end of 2012.

While Button appears to be edging closer to securing his place at McLaren, the future of Lewis Hamilton remains uncertain – with talks about his own contract not likely to start for several months yet.

Hamilton has made it clear several times this year that he will be happy to stay at McLaren as long as it provides him with a competitive car.

However, AUTOSPORT revealed last week that Hamilton's frustration with the performance of his McLaren in qualifying in Canada – at a race where he had been expected to be on pole position – resulting in him making a surprise visit to Red Bull Racing boss Christian Horner on Saturday night for private talks.

Although there is no suggestion that was the start of contract discussions, the visit showed that Hamilton may be willing to consider options outside of McLaren if the team cannot provide him with a car that is capable of fighting for the title.

But despite his feelings on Saturday in Montreal, Hamilton may be more open to a future at McLaren after seeing team-mate Button win in Canada – and witnessing further evidence that while Red Bull Racing has a qualifying advantage, it may be McLaren that has the fastest car in the races.

Of the current top teams, only Fernando Alonso at Ferrari and Sebastian Vettel at Red Bull Racing have committed themselves to their present squads for the long term.

We call it the silly season and it’s a most apt phrase, even if the word “season” is less appropriate, given that the phenomenon now seems to go on all year round. The shouts from the market place can be heard in full cry at just about any moment in the season, especially when it comes to Ferrari. Whether the team is doing well or if it’s going through a period a bit like the current one, it’s always good box office. And today, it’s a truly universal phenomenon, in that it has expanded to cover several categories. It used to be just the drivers, but now it extends to team management and engineers and it’s a hot topic everywhere: one might even say in “all four corners of the earth” as the people coming up with these fantasies are quite capable of still believing the earth is flat.

A favourite pastime for the Prancing Horse is to keep tabs on all these rumours, to see just how creative and phantasmagorical these experts can be. Recent weeks have provideed a particularly happy hunting ground on various fronts. Engineer gossip has been enlivened by the news of the restructuring of the Scuderia’s technical department, giving rise to a wave of suggestions and a list of candidates good enough to make an employment agency go green with envy. But of course, it’s still the drivers that attract the most attention. And as usual, Felipe Massa is at the centre of it all. The Brazilian is now well used to this ritual, as it began almost before he set foot in the Scuderia. Each year he is due to be replaced, even if the season is only two races old, yet year after year, he is still holding down his job. The list of candidates scheduled to replace Felipe is by now a long one, but 2011 has seen some new names appear in the charts. First there was Nico Rosberg and now we can add that of Jenson Button. It goes without saying that, yet again, this is just a load of twaddle, to use a polite word for what I really mean to say.

If anything happens they will be looking for someone to train up and replace 'Fernando when he goes......so they are not looking at has beens like Button who are on their way down but young blood. They have been disáppointed in Bianchi so far (overrated twit) so of course are on the lookout......but I am sure they are not looking to the over thirties group for the short term.....so forget Button, 'Webber etc.......and look rather to the young blood out there........and there is plenty of it.

Must be quite a change of tact for Ferrari then to be looking for young drivers, how do you know this? Massa is 30 does this mean he is also a has been and will be removed due to his age?

Why give Alonso such a long deal when at 31 he will be a has been and on his way down (as you say about Jenson)....
