Vettel requested stewards look at Alonso move

Sebastian Vettel pulled off what will go down as one of the best overtaking moves of the 2011 season to regain the lead from Fernando Alonso in Italy.
Whilst the Red Bull driver stormed to victory after the decisive overtake, which saw him forced onto the grass by the Spaniard, it didn't stop him questioning the move.
It's been revealed that Vettel approached the race stewards, which included former driver Derek Daly, and the FIA after the race, requesting they look at the footage to decide whether or not Ferrari driver should have been penalised.
Describing the overtake, Vettel said he had chosen to go to the outside at the last minute, hoping Alonso would see him and give him the required room.
"I decided spontaneously to go left and then I thought, I just hope he has seen me because he kept going left, left, left," he said.
"There wasn’t much space. I stayed on full throttle but fortunately the corner opened up, I had two wheels on the grass, and then once I was side-by-side he was obviously aware that I was still there and then there was another battle getting onto the brakes, who hit the brakes first. I hit first and then he was quite late but I had the inside so I was quite relieved after I was ahead."
Alonso took the opportunity to apologise with a simple 'sorry' during the post-race press conference, though he admitted he had little to lose from making the pass.
"We have nothing to lose in the battles with Sebastian. He is leading the championship by 100 points I think, so when we have to defend we will be a little bit harder with him. Sorry [directed at Vettel].

I didn't think Alonso defending move last weekend was as ruthless as some of the things Schumi and Lewis have done.

Vettel needs to grow a pair

I like Vettel, but that sounds like the type of entitlement mentality we see from Hamilton, "How dare anyone race me hard"

spoilt lil brat. Its good racing Vetts, just because you have to get out front from pole, because you hate overtaking and cannt handle it. What was he expecting? Fernando to pull right over to the right hand side and just not fight and defend the lead and his position. Making Vetts fight. Grow up, get on with it. Welcome to fighting hard with Ferrari and a real 2 time WDC, who can race from 5, 6, 7,8 or lower on grid.

Alonso warns Vettel to expect 'hard' racing
    Tuesday 13 September at 08:35 : Sep.13 (GMM)

Fernando Alonso has warned runaway championship leader Sebastian Vettel to expect more "hard" racing in the final throes of the 2011 season.

After winning at Monza last weekend, Red Bull's Vettel recalled that Spaniard Alonso raced "hard but fair" as the Ferrari driver defended his early lead.

And although writing off his chances of beating Vettel to the crown, Alonso warned the German to expect more hard racing in the remaining six races.

"Yeah, we have nothing to lose in the battles with Sebastian," said Alonso, who is in second place behind Vettel's championship lead but 112 points behind.

"He is leading the championship by 100 points I think, so when we have to defend we will be a little bit harder with him," he added.

Alonso, 30, thinks he might be able to challenge Vettel in Singapore in two weeks, the scene of his victories in 2008 and 2010.

"Of the races remaining I think Singapore is probably the best one for our car characteristics," he said.

Where have all the real men gone? If you have a problem with someone, then go up to him and talk about it. And if he refuses to listen and you are very mad, then make him listen.
I remember Ayrton Senna who was held up while trying to lap a young Irvine. After the race Ayrton did not go to the stewards but went to Irvine's trailer, gave him a bang against his head and left.
Irvine understood the message and they never had any problems again.
I don't like these Vettel (and Hamilton) way of handling things - and certainly not after Alonso had said sorry so acknowledged it was somewhat tricky.
Then you can do two things when in Vettels shoes: either you accept the apology or you don't and tell Fernando to **** off.
But you don't say nothing and later go complaining to the stewards in order to get a penalty...

I remember a race where Vettel almost pushed Fernando into the wall after the start, what i don't remember is: did Fernando go to the stewards after the race asking them to take a look? And did Vettel apologize?

Nope. I think Alonso was too busy drinking bubbly from the top podium.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but wasn't it Germany 2010? In that case....
Meanwhile, it either says something or just nothing that Alonso, Schumacher and Raikkonen have reputedly spared a F1 podium on five occasions and Fernando has stood on the top step on every occasion. He's F1's first among equals. (PG)

OT but interesting how he says that Singapore should be good for us. I would have thought it would be bad since the car now struggles in those types of corners.

I guess he would know more.

We have new upgrade package for Singapore, maybe something in it....but realistically our only chance could be Alonso and Massa in front of Maccas after first corner, after that just Shumi style Monza defensing and hope for podium. Just like last year but with slower car. I dont even dream about Vettel or RBR, that fight is lost. Rain at the start would be good.... Anyways we need a lot of luck to be competitive.

Funny I remember when they were eating half chicken's in Tour de France, back in the days. Time has changed. The amount of money up for grabs is so big. I'm not saying that your wrong, not at all. I think the sport would be better could it all be handled with a personal confrontation.
Sadly this is the way now.
Sebastian did tell Alonso that he put him on the grass. Alonso just didn't care. So I guess he did what you suggested, except when Alonso did not care, I think he or any one in a situation where a driver feels "stepped on" (lack of a better word), did the right thing going to the FIA.
There wasn't any problem with this and we are home safe.

I don't see the problem, honestly.

Alonso said sorry, so how do you get he did not care?

Q: Fernando, Sebastian said a minute ago you didn’t give him very much room. What’s your analysis of the situation” Hard but fair? Lot of pride to defend here in Italy I guess?

I wonder why the press conference didn't end up like Trulli's and Sutil's at Abu Dhabi in 2009. All was missing were pictures of the replays.

Fernando said sorry. Nothing happened--you pulled it off. Or did you just want everyone to see that glorious move of yours again?

    Come on, Seb.

Not blaming Fernando, but to me, that doesn't sound like "sorry", as in apologising, but more like "sorry, you just have to deal with it". Which is fair I think, as he said, Vettel has an unassailable lead in the Championship, so what's the harm?

Agreed. I take back saying Fernando apologized but the point about Seb running off to the stewards to tell on Fernando still stands.

Ferrari has to get it right next year, I really want our boys to show them who the real racers are! I recall Alonso against Massa in 2007, none of this stewards blablabla, straight after the race "what the **** is wrong with you", like real men.

Vettel is just getting too cocky. He really thinks his driving skills are so superior and that's because Webber is useless, I don't recall anyone getting destroyed like that with an identical car (and yes Rubbens was better than that against MS and the team strategy was very clear at that time).
Vettel forgets that his car is the easiest to drive, put Fernando in that N°2 RB car for the rest of the season just for fun and Vettel would look so ridiculous after a couple race he would know what to do with himself.

Sorry but this kind of attitude really winds me up and should not be part of F1 racing.

"I cannot judge what he did in his time at Renault and McLaren but I have worked with World Champions Schumacher, Villeneuve and Raikkonen and Fernando is the one who impresses me the most," said Gene.

In all fairness to Vettel, it was most likely a team decision, and not his own.

But as some people were saying, after his display at Nurburgring 2010 he cannot complain too much...
