Well well, Lucky for him Fernando back out off that one too, I don't call that a "great" pass, It's a "I have lucky pants on today my word" or "I will not get away with one like that next time" Or "Nando you're such a gentleman", or "thank god we're buddies" kind of pass.
And he also had the racing line, so no biggy here either!!!
"I cannot judge what he did in his time at Renault and McLaren but I have worked with World Champions Schumacher, Villeneuve and Raikkonen and Fernando is the one who impresses me the most," said Gene.
I never said it was greatit was a nice bold move that is all

"Sublime' is clearly in the eye of the beholderbut from an overhead shot that pass, IMO, was an expressive, unecessarily beautiful piece of movement, which had FA's then race engineer rocking back on his stool on the bench as he watched it.
FA had the faster car, he didn't need to push it, but it was pure love of driving that made the move as we saw it. And, as some said, it was necessary to have a driver of MS's ability to bring it off safely.
Now Vettel's pass was not "sublime".
To my eye it was a forceful and inelegant piece of driving in a faster car, nothing wrong with that, and dependent possibly even more on the other driver's skills, as well as his own, to bring it off.
PS I think "sublime' is an odd word to use anyway, but it seems to cover an aesthetic aspect of racing. Some people (even on this site) regard the cars themselves as work of art. To me, some pieces of driving have a beauty in excess of necessity.
That's enough - back to work!![]()
he took the racing line while MS pulled to the inside.
Surely Alonso has done some better overtaking that this.....

Listen you ! I was happy with my memories until you start providing 'proof' they they're a mirage!
And another thing, I said the overhead shot was beautful. I put my VHS casssette clip smehwhere. I will find it and then.....you'll be sorry.
Are you sure you're not my husband?!! If so, don't bother looking 4 your dinner tonight, I'm going out!![]()
LOL don't get me wrong Alonso was brave but MS gave it up as he was clever enough to know what might happen, many people rave on about Mika passing MS at Spa, I thought it was rubbish as well, I much prefer my overtaking moves to be worked for and sometimes take a few laps to come to pass, my own personal favourite moves are MS on Mika at Monza 98 and MS on Kimi at Brazil 06![]()

I have a few I like. The purist among you will not agree but for the entertainment element I rate them high.
Monza 2011 Lewis trying to pass MS for at least 20 laps & Button whizzing past the pair of them.
Hungary 2008 Massa passing both McLarens on the first corner on the outside---especially after Lewis had said at the previous race that "no one passes me on the outside"
!9993 Suzuka Then there was Irvine passing Senna to unlap himself. Makes me smile everytime I think of it.cheeky or what????

Ah, you mean o/t that doesn't involve taking 3 other cars off the track! Like using your brain? Tricky that.......
Racingbradley @ 68Monza 2011 Lewis trying to pass MS for at least 20 laps & Button whizzing past the pair of them.
Any o/t on LH is a joy if only because he's been so offensive about his fellow drivers' skills IMO.
Really? why do they cherish that?
Him driving around MS at Hungary 06 was much more of a move to cherish, in fact his progress at the start in Hungary 06 is worth much more than the non event at Suzuka![]()

one of the Alonso moves i liked was him against Hamilton going through Eau Rouge in 2007. brilliant, ballsy stuff.
In Stefano Domenicali, we have a team boss who has proved to be a leader. - Luca diMontezemelo
You better not watch the Webber v Alonso at Spa then because they went even more nuts over it.....
If that is your benchmark for what is good...
Forza Ferrari
It was a move that was more impressive for the guts it required than the actual skill involved. 130R is single file and the move required MS's co-operation to work, had MS stuck to the racing line Alonso never would have pulled that move off. Still the corner is tougher to take than it looks as Algersuari showed last year and it was a ballsy move.
There are much more impressive example of Alonso's overtaking skills IMO eg. Hungary 06, Massa Nurburgring '07, Heidfeld France '07, Webber Monaco '08, Trulli Bahrain '09 etc
