    Massa pole Singapore 2008

I took a look at Felipe's pole here------a venue which has bitter/sweet memories for me of Felipe.
Thought I would post as some people might enjoy seeing it again.
Hope a Ferrari car is on pole Sunday. I can dream.

Can anyone bring up the race thread for that year? Lets see what the reactions were like when Felipe pulled the Italian sausage down the pitlane, they must have been a tad bit worst than Abu Dhabi 2010.

And the sexy looking chassis of the F2008, especially with the shark-fin engine cover and superb metallic red looking even more gleaming under the circuit lights. The wheel cover too, is another thing featured on the F2008 and cars of some other years I'd miss today.

I tried using the search function, the threads still available only goes as far back as 2010 Singapore race thread.

Unless there's somekind of archive hidden somewhere.

Is there the faint hope of a thread minus negativity.
We all know what happened on the next day but do we want to rake up bad memories??????

One of my two favorites. The F2008 is 1A, the Lotus 79 is 1B.

it wasn't a lollypop man that evening; it was the light system that messed up, that turned green for a split second before it went back to red
but given Felipe's instant reaction, as soon as he saw the light turn green, he took off like a bat outta hell...

Good point. I had forgot Ferrari had switched to the light system that year.

you sure? I always though it was technical glitch
Meanwhile, it either says something or just nothing that Alonso, Schumacher and Raikkonen have reputedly spared a F1 podium on five occasions and Fernando has stood on the top step on every occasion. He's F1's first among equals. (PG)

Regarding the problem with Massa's stop, Domenicali pointed out "that historically, during the last ten or 12 years, there were always problems during the pit stops. I remember very well problems with Michael and Rubens. So it's not true that we have made more mistakes than in the past. Unfortunately, we shouldn't have them, but that's another story."

Domenicali explained that "unfortunately there was a mistake. We were not using the electronic system, it was run manually. When there are a lot of cars coming into the pit in a safety car situation, it is better to have (the system working) like a lollipop but instead of a lollipop you control the green light and unfortunately there was a mistake."

Asked whether the team will stick to this system for the remainder of the season, Domenicali said "we will analyse what we did in the other pit stops. It was a tense moment, again a guy was knocked down. He's OK, no problem at all, but it's a very tense moment, so we preferred not to use it for the other pit stops because we wanted to give a sign of less tension. It's a system that is trying to give as good a performance as possible.

"At that moment you have to consider that there were so many cars coming in and of course, you try to be quick, you try to find the right slot in order for the car to be released, so it was a difficult moment. I don't think a lot of people would want to wear the overalls of the guy who has to manage the pit stop. We have to have a lot of respect for these guys. They are not top drivers but part of the team. It is very difficult and they have a lot of pressure."

There was no question that he would lose his job. "We win together, we lose together and in that respect the philosophy will not change because of one unfortunate mistake. He felt very bad of course, as you can imagine. Felipe went to see him straight away, and he said, OK guy, look ahead. As I said, we're always together."

you know,Alonso was on a really good lap, that day aswell, in q2, but his car broke down. Hamilton was lying 10th, and could not go out again.

so much changed right at that moment, as Alonso and Renault had real pace that weekend. that changed the season, and various careers/perceptions.

    Brill lap though.

Nice lap, Massa seems to be getting to grips with the Pirelli's in the last few quali's. It's great to see!

Whilst the idiotic Brazilian made life a bit more difficult I really fail to see how he cost Massa the race? I'd be fairly certain the 2:03.359 spent in the pits at the first stop would have sent him to the back of the pack and probably lapped regardless of the Safety Car. That's a debate for a different day I guess!

I think we can have a long discussion that will never end on why we lost the championship that year

Many things happened over the entire season, same with 2010, in both year, I was extremely disappointed when it happened, but now I no longer see any reason to mourn over those season or continue analyzing them now.

Time to look forward which promise many more years of success for Ferrari. I'm already looking forward to 2012 before 2011 ends
