Ferrari test 2012 front wing in Korea
Friday 14 Oktober at 07:35 : Oct.14 (GMM) Ferrari is testing a new front wing in Korea practice this weekend in line with the aggressive philosophy of its 2012 car.

Italian and Spanish media reports have revealed that Maranello's next single seater is known internally as '663'.

Italiaracing reports that the wing tested in Korea on Friday is "inspired by Red Bull's design".

Designer Nikolas Tombazis confirmed recently that the front wing "represents a different approach in terms of how it works".

"We can therefore try and learn as much as possible right away," he said.

The 2012 car is reportedly very low with a higher driving position and longer wheelbase than the current 150 Italia.

Other Italian sources say that, so focused is the team on 2012, boss Stefano Domenicali and technical head Pat Fry travelled back and forth to Italy between the long-haul Asian races in Japan and Korea.

The 663 reportedly also features Red Bull-style rear suspension, allowing more efficient airflow.

"The Red Bull is not just a diffuser but a very complete car, and I am sure that if the first race (of 2012) would take place now they would still have an advantage.

"Our challenge between now and March is to avoid that," said Fernando Alonso.

It does, but thats not a problem for now. At the moment we're testing a different concept so I wouldnt expect it to be aggressive or complicated. If the tests show positive results, we'll improve the front wing and hopefully it wont be described as "simple" by the time its raced next year.

Well well well, look at that!

    1) Is that telling us that the 663 will look like a RB next year? It is going that way by the looks of it!

    2) Copying is not good enough though, it does not make you better!

    3) it does explain why it is not working with the F150, the coherence with the rest the car is random, otherwise it would have been done ages ago! (making a new wing is as simple as making a new wing)

I think Ferrari has called their internal cars like that 6xx for awhile..I became aware of it in 89 when they did the 639. Barnards 1st design for the team.

Im hoping that we are really good on race pace, no matter what front wing we use.

A good read about the new wing (to follow when updated):

lol the likeness is uncanny. but I think the wing also looks like mclaren.

so they use a stolen RB wing as a concept for next year. like the sound of that.

RB must be loving this- i'm surprised there has been no comment from their side so far!

So Newey wasn't far off when he said the other half of Webber's wing was at Maranello? I wonder how much they paid the lucky sod for picking it up.

The wing is flexing now as well... Composite studies!

    Oh yeah! Flex baby flex

Next we need to copy Red Bull's flexing T-tray, increase the rake of the car and that front wing will be even closer to the ground.

So we will make a perfect copy of RB car for 2012 and RB will meanwhile create yet another beast, hopefully not that scary like in last 2 seasons.

"Red Bull Racing's technical chief Adrian Newey elected to skip the Korean Grand Prix so he could return to the factory to ramp up efforts on next year's car
And Horner says that the outfit must make the most of the limited track running opportunities it has before RB8 hits the track next February.
"The focus has to start moving towards next year," he said. "We have less than four months to design and build a completely new car, which is why Adrian elected not to attend this race. He is busy back in the UK focused on RB8.

So they ARE making the Beast too not another evolution car...so we must be very carefull with optimism :)

thats surely PR speak by Horner.

i dont think Ferrari are completely copying RedBull. this new wing will probably not be similar to 2012 wing at all, but since it looks uncanny like the RedBull, maybe they are playing around and experimenting with Materials and whatnot?
imo, this wing will be nothing like the finished product.

also, who knows, RedBull's beast might fail
