After the drivers once again promise not to "gang up on Lewis" ahead of the Korean Grand Prix they all conspire to do an impression of him in the press conference instead.

    Vettel wins (yet again)

I remember reading an article in a magazine once that linked Alonso's hair to his performance. 05/06 he had long hair so did awesome, 07 had a haircut and didn't win in the end, last year had long hair and nearly won and this year I just don't know

Credit must go to Francesc from the Autosport forums.

could this be Ferrari F2012's front wing?

EDIT: Here it is compared with Spa wing, kind of similar angle.

there are differences, mostly size, this korea one looks massive. and that black rod/slit thing at the bottom of the elements. also, the thing at the top corners. looks asthetically very nice

    EDIT 2:
Both Ferrari drivers used intermediate tyres in this afternoon session, before Alonso ended with a run on Soft tyres to complete an aerodynamics test that features an experimental front wing.
    http://www.ferrari.com/English/Formu...ny-Friday.aspx

Pat Fry: “It was a rather complicated day because of the weather. In the morning, there was too much water on track and there was no point in going out, given that tomorrow and Sunday we should have a dry track. In the afternoon, conditions were slightly better, but the track dried so slowly that it was never possible to run effectively on the dry tyres. We therefore tried to make a virtue out of necessity, getting as much as possible out of one set of intermediate tyres for each driver. With Fernando, we concentrated mainly on a comparison of two different front wing configurations and now we must analyse the data this produced. Of course, the grip level is pretty low: these are certainly not ideal conditions for us, as can clearly be seen from the time sheet. It will therefore be a slightly different weekend to usual: tomorrow, we have only one hour to try and find the best balance on the cars for dry conditions and then it will immediately be time to fight for the grid positions.”

so it is an experimental front wing, eh? so could be for this year, or next year, and i guess next years one will be a bit different aswell.

Or rather, an iteration of it. Pretty sure they will try out a few different ones.

yeah, not even im dumb enough to assume that that will be the finished F2012 front wing

no, that looks as if this years. Would be very surprised if next yeas is as simple as we have seen our wings this year. Looks like the Spa spec, but the top of the second element is straighter on this wing.

most tracks we bring two types of wing. Here in Korea is no different. As got long straight, so the need for little drag, but have long faster and slow corners. Will need another sort wing (more elements) for them Just running see which 1 would be more effective in race and quali, go for less down force for the straights, but be slower round the corners or go with the wing with bit more downforce so then be other way around.

The one being tested by Fernando in the picture, has that slot in the main wing, to act like a 3 element wing. But only being 2 element wing.

scarbs says he is going to do a blog post on it tonight.

i think maybe we should make a 2012 car thread, as there havent been that many pics recently.

Looks like push rod suspension to me.

Don't tell me Ferrari is still trying to develop our push rod system instead of moving on to pull rod?

In racing news number 20, Tombazi says that they will test the 2012 front wing but he hopes it will be beneficial to this years car as well. So it seems that they will run it if the data is good and refine it for next year.

Hm this wings looks too simple if you compare with RB or maccas :(

That wing is not simple at all. I see a lot of this going around, but a wing doesn't need to be complicated to be fast.

It just needs to work in harmony with the rest of the car.

Problem with that, Red Bull, Macca have a more aggressive front wint than us, and are faster. Ours has been too simple for couple years now. If we want more aggressive aero mapping the front wing is a big portion of that. It will help great deal. Cannt see that as the Whole new wing, maybe just some parts to get data for next years. The way to go, as with have seen is bit more complex to help produce the downforce at the front. And the underfloor, well all rest of the car.

To be honest with you I don't see what is so aggressive about McLaren's front wing. They just have that curved second cascade that makes it seem that way. I believe McLaren's great front end is a combination of the wing and the snow plough nose.

Anyway, with these wide front wings it is all about conditioning the airflow around the outside and inside of the tyres as well as the flow around the car itself. Downforce is generated by the pressure differential between the low pressure underneath the wing and the high pressure above it.

To make matters worse, you have to consider the drag penalty these complicated wings produce.
