I doubt it's uncomfortable. The seat is completely moulded around them. I imagine it's better than it would be sat upright since the body can control and dissipate forces more this way. Keeping the driver low means the COG is lower, so the car will perform better. If they were sat up, their head would be much further out the cockpit, upsetting the aero balance while putting the driver at risk if the car were to flip.

Pretty cool, but I wish they'd show the rear of the car up close (engine, gearbox, etc...)
