Our Team during the race had all the data that the above was happening real time.
After waiting for so long for an improvement of a few tents we can’t afford to throw away 32 whole seconds!!!

    Imagine you are Ferrari crew:
Lap 60 Gap 1,381 x 10 (remaining laps) would mean 13,81 secs to lose, pitstop would lose 20. In or out?
Lap 61 Gap 1,469 x 9 (remaining laps) would mean 13,221 secs to lose, pitstop would lose 20. In or out?
Lap 62 Gap 2.151 x 8 (remaining laps) would mean 17,208 secs to lose, pistop would lose 20. In or out?

I think you got the simple and clear logic behind why Alonso stayed out. Only in the 64th lap we have for once a gap of 4,268 x 6 = 25,608 which is larger than 20 secs pitstop.

We had to evaluate also the probability of the tyres' sudden death.
It had happened in the past with Kimi.

Up to that lap i too was fairly optimistic that we could just make it,but Grosjean was catching Alonso and Vettel at a fast rate from lap 52.
It was clear his tyres where working much better than ours and Vettel's,and would catch them easily towards the end.
    Red Bull pitted we did'nt.

    Red Bull where right.

It was not only the gap in every lap.
We had to see also that the gap was increasing exponentially compared with the others not only with Massa.

i think the important thing Ferrari should have learnt from this is not to "cover" who you think is your main rival but to strategize according to their own game plan. like in football, you would analyse the strengths and weaknesses of your opponents but adapt your own game to combat them and not play their game.

we did this is Abu Dhabi 2010 by "covering" Webbo and in Canada by "covering" Seb...

in any case, we should now move on and forget about past mistakes.
Felipe Massa for World Champion 2012!

I’m approaching the Valencia GP with mixed feelings: are we on the way to the first Ferrari WDC since 2007? Or 2008 by the Ferrari calendar.
Car’s much better, Alonso is favourite according to F1 Magazine, everybody’s working like maniacs and there seems to be an optimistic mood in the team, judging by various Ferrari team comments.

But…..After the Canadian GP I was a teeny bit concerned that the pit bench appeared to have misjudged the tyres for Alonso , who seemed like he was home free before the last ten laps. Oh no!! 2010 all over again?

But no, the good (?) news was that everybody in the Ferrari team had misjudged the tyres, including Fernando, who backed them up firmly. So that was alright then. I don’t know why I thought things must be better if absolutely everyone had misjudged the state of the tyres but I didn’t want rows and misery and the firing squad to be marched in again . So, all of team must look at the tyre issues again for homework, but apart from that, no problems.

Some more cynical tifosi than me then said that Alonso’s leap into the breach was just a bit of PR for the team so, well, if that’s the case who can you trust? Had a bit of a confidence wobble again.

Week later feeling OK. BUT…. now I read Gary Anderson on the BBC site (a bit later than others posting on this thread have, sorry) saying that, having allowed himself the benefit of hindsight, he’s convinced that Alonso would have won the Canadian GP, or at least come 2nd (also Vettel, but tbh I’ve got enough worries on my plate) if the guys on the Ferrari bench had put in a second pit stop for FA either before Hamilton’s 2nd stop or even after his 2nd stop: they had only to look at Massa’s times on fresh tyres.
Even if LH had passed Alonso, or FA hadn’t been able to catch LH up, no-one else would have so, so he’d have been, at worst, 2nd.
. ……they both would at least have held onto the positions they were in at the time - second for Alonso and third for Vettel.
“In Ferrari's case, that decision cost Alonso at least 10 points, and Vettel lost three. In a championship as tight as this, the title is likely to be won - and lost - by a lot less than that. “

Which is where I came in……….oh noooooooooooooo …….
