    Pole in Valencia?

According to Spanish sports newspaper Marca, the next developments will be seen in Valencia next weekend, and are especially designed to improve the car’s top speed and traction.

“The objective is to get the first pole of the year,” the correspondent Marco Canseco reported.

Team boss Stefano Domenicali confirmed: “We have developments for Valencia.

“Our main goal is to achieve pole position and we are not far away.

“The important thing is to keep improving the car, as we will not be happy until we are on pole.”

    Pole in valencia is achievable.
IMO this must notbe anymore the goal (except Monaco). It's not like past years (whoever had the pole had also a strong advantage for the race).
Look at Canada. Vet had pole. Vet finished 4th. I don't say that this would be the rule from now on but with this tires situation races become unpredictable and a gamble.
We also watch more often cars starting from back of the grid finishing in the front.
It's just that now more factors define the results of a GP (tyre degradation, tyre management) and not only engine power, gearbox, aerodynamics.
Whoever can manage all this factors well and can extract the maximum of all these he would be probably the man with the ace up his sleeve.

We're very close to Red Bull, the slightest variation in temperature could decide if its Alonso or Vettel ahead in qualifying.

But McLaren is still the team to beat. They are still faster than Ferrari and RB in terms of raw pace, especially in the hands of Lewis.

    Really hope so.

(But for those who don't know much about Marca, you shouldknow that they're a bit (too much) biased and their "optimism" have led them to publish lots of rumors even in title page. Example: Villa in Real Madrid back in '08)

Yeah, pole is possible.....but for quite a lot of others too.

If you look at Valencia's results from last few years, Pole or grid position is extremely cruicial. Ferrari know this & looking at our performances in last couple of GPs, I believe Fernando has a shot at first row.

I think race pace and tire wearing are more important than anything else this season. Having the car on pole is a great thing if it doesn't compromise the other two.

But doesn't being stuck being another car increase tyre wear? I'd say poles are still very important.

We HAVE to get pole here, no matter what. The nature of the circuit is such that overtaking is very very difficult. And again, strategy with pit stops will be as important as seen last year where teams made 3-4 stops at times.
You get pole, you win the race, 90% guaranteed.

Here is why grid positions are so importatnt in Valencia:

    Sebastian Vettel:

"In Valencia, we drive an average of more than 200kph, which means it's one of the fastest street circuits in Formula One," said Vettel. "Overtaking is possible, but only with some risk. The reason is that the air turbulence created by cars driving closely behind each other doesn't disappear as it normally would due to the high walls around the track; you lose grip and, in some extreme cases, you have to lift the throttle. The start-finish straight in Valencia is special because it's not very long, it turns into a fast right corner which we take at 290kph."

Don't get me wrong, I don't deny poles are very important, more so in Valencia, but I think race pace and tyre wear are key for the championship. It's possible to improve Q3 and the other two as well. Hopefully that's what we'll see in Valencia.

I hope the upgrades they bring to Valencia turns the car into an unrivaled beast!
