GTE Pro polesitter Frederic Makowiecki says any of the class runners can win Le Mans

Le Mans 24 Hours GTE Pro class polesitter Frederic Makowiecki believes the division is wide open, and that any of the nine entrants can win.
On the back of the opening two sessions at the Circuit de la Sarthe, the Frenchman says the class still has no clear favourite and insists every single outfit will be in contention for victory.
"In GTE Pro we have nine cars, and every car can win," Makowiecki said. "Every team seems to have a strong team of drivers, they're all very professionally run and they all have close support from the factories - or are actual factory teams. That means that while we may have just nine cars, we still have nine potential victors."
In light of the apparent competitiveness of the field, Makowiecki said strategy – and trying to run as long as possible between stops – would be crucial.
"For the race it will be important not to make mistakes, but also to have the right strategy," he said. "I think [running longer in each stint] will be very important.
"Normally Porsche is very strong in fuel consumption, but we have done a lot of work this year to really close the gap and we're very confident.
"We have an amazing chassis, especially on braking and turn-in, and if you have that great chassis you can try and be a bit safer on the fuel. We will be trying to run one lap longer, and that can make all the difference."
