Our sport is rubbish at celebrating and showing its human side. When the WDC is decided we don't even see the celebrations publicly unless the driver happens to be on the podium for that race and even then they don't get a special ceremony to mark the event.

The video of Alonso stopping on track was eye wateringly special for Alonso and Ferrari fans. The in-car footage alone when he stopped with the Marshalls and the "teddy bear" and bowing to the crowd had tears coming down my cheeks. It's about time F1 didnt rely on drivers taking "risks" in order to give the fans some human moments like that before they arrive back in parc ferme and have to revert back to boring "en message" quotes and predictable interview formats.
I have a feeling Bernie sees it the same way. He is not the FIA however, but I wouldn't be surprised if he let the FIA know he doesn't want to discourage these spontaneous celebrations. We've seen drivers do things like this before, so it's not unprecedented.

I don't think the drivers care less, to be honest, whether they are allowed to do it or not. Felipe has done donuts at Interlagos, and taken the Brazilian flag to wave, and I think Lewis did donuts at Silverstone a couple of years back also. I'm surprised they don't do it more often... I mean, what's the worst that's going to happen to them? A fine that they can easily afford to pay?

I read that Alonso stopped in front of one of the least expensive grandstands. I like to think that in these tough economic times, these people came with the hope of having something to celebrate and Alonso and the Scuderia delivered and Alonso wanted to maximize their enjoyment. This makes me very satisfied as I lived in Spain for several years and have nothing but fond memories of the Spanish.
    Cheers,
    Ray

Read it too. Nice thing to do.
Sometimes I can't help thinking: Fernando Alonso is totally different from what a lot of Ferrari fans thought of him in the past. Wonder how they think about that now......

True. I admit I had to work hard at not hating Alonso when he was with Renault first time. I thought he was a bit of a snot. But I think Ferrari got the mature Alonso who has paid his dues and knows how to be a champion, and drive like one.

I'll admit it; I was not happy when Fernando was named a Ferrari driver. I'm glad to say he has proven me VERY wrong.

Oh yeah, me too. I had grown to like Alonso even before then. Actually he was sort of my hero since he almost destroyed McLaren from within.

Haha, strange how impressions can be wrong. The Fernando we see now is he same guy who drove for Minardi and Renault. I was a fan of him from the beginning -even had a chat with him once when he was driving for Minardi - and he has not changed at all. Maybe he is a little less shy now because he really is at ease with Ferrari and he has matured of course, but that is all. He always was a nice guy and he was always straightforward in what he said.
But on the other hand, the only thing I liked about Ferrari in the past was Felipe Massa. I did not like the team and was always happy when they lost (except Felipe loosing the championship which I found horrible) ....but then Fernando moved to Ferrari (which I did not like at the time) and because I was his fan I just had to follow.
Ferrari was totally different to what I thought it was - and so are the fans. Within half a season I had turned around completely and now after some years I consider myself not only an Alonso fan but also a Ferrari fan.
Strange how things can change...but I'm happy with it.

I was the opposite. Hate Alonso and love Ferrari. Now I love them both...
Anyway, I think you should post this in a McLaren or a RedBull forum to help them understand what they lose !!!!!!

I don't know if they would understand . It's all about passion - and as we know you have to go to Ferrari to find that.
Besides that , do you think they would accept a forummember called Alonsomaniac??
