Thumbs up Sounds Like Newey nervous already

MODs I know is not Ferrari related, but think it interesting as Newey and RBR could be getting nervous about the engine rules in couple years. Because it may bring back engines being the bigger performance playing more of a factor than aero is right now. That may play into our hands (MODs, if feel as if need to be moved or delete fair play)

Red Bull chief technical officer Newey expects engine performance to become dominant differentiator from 2014
By Edd Straw Monday, August 20th 2012, 08:42 GMT

Adrian Newey expects engine performance to become the dominant differentiator between teams when the new V6 turbo engines are introduced in 2014.

The Red Bull chief technical officer fears that the combination of tighter chassis rules and potential differences between the performance of the engines could lead to one group of teams sharing one supplier having a big advantage.

"In 2014, you will have the variation in engine performance," Newey told AUTOSPORT. "That means the engine power unit itself, which is not only the internal combustion engine but also the various recovery systems bolted to it.

"It is possible that one manufacturer will do significantly better than the others, at which point you might end up with that manufacturer's cars at the front of the grid.

"You could end up with an engine manufacturers' championship."

Newey has long been critical of how restrictive the chassis rules are in F1 and believes the 2014 rules to be even tighter.

He expects this to further swing the balance in favour of engine performance, with the main scope for innovation potential coming in terms of the way that the engines are used.

"The chassis regs, aero wise, are a more restrictive version of what we have already," said Newey.

"The installation of the engine is obviously something that the teams will work on with their engine manufacturers. It remains to be seen whether someone comes up with something novel there and steals an advantage."

To be fair to him, it’s natural to sound this way. Engines are something beyond his control & he can only hope that Renault delivers competitive engines. Even Ferrari is in same situation, you never know what your competitors turn up with

Personally, I would prefer if its 50% aero and 50% engine.

Newey is an aero guy, so I guess he don't like engine playing a big role. But engine is always an important thing in a car right. When we talk about a new Ferrari car for example, one of the important detail is what type of engine in is in that new Ferrari. How many cylinder, what horsepower.

So rightfully, engine should be a big part of F1 too.

Newey call it engine championship, but right now we can say its an aero championship. So its better if we make both equally important.

Most of the good things about F1 come from engines and internal mechanics, and a lot of the bad things, from the aerodynamics part of F1 engineering, guilty for example of the borefest of previous years and how ridiculous cars look, so the manufacturers championship turning into an engine's championship for a few years sounds very acceptable to me.

Take away 50% of the aero from the cars. Most road cars don't even produce downforce to begin with, and even most super cars produce only a fraction of what an f1 car produces.

Would be boring though to see the car slowly crawl around a corner.

F1 cannot be at the same level as other kind of cars, otherwise we might as well just watch the many racing series involving super cars. So it doesn't matter how little downforce other cars produces, we're watching F1 because its the fastest of all in a completely different league. Its not expected to be anywhere near the others.

GP2 cars already have a large amount of downforce too. Would be pointless if F1 is slower than GP2, might as well watch GP2.

Couldn’t have said it any better myself.
F1 is the pinnacle of motorsports racing, nothing and I mean nothing should EVER be changed about it, let alone make them slower; my opinion is, IS F1 and then all the other car’s racing
    Forza Ferrari SEMPRE!!!
