    More Rumours today.

Incidentally, new info casts more doubt on @Felipe1Massa staying at Ferrari - good source says @NicoHulkenberg deal already done

Problem is, an equally good - if not probably better - source says @Felipe1Massa is still most likely to stay but @NicoHulkenberg key option

Unless Luca DM panic and went crazy over Perez move and he rushed to the nearest newbie driver, I don't see why Ferrari want Hulkenberg

No doubt Force India have been very impressive lately, doing well among the mid range team. But if Luca DM was reluctant to sign Perez, its hard to imagine he would take Hulkenberg instead.

Me too. It's a bit boring now, there was a line of about 20 drivers so I guess they have shuffled onto the next one now.

I’m just surprised that De Resta with his Italian roots isn’t in the mix (he must be so disappointed!!!!)

I guess the team owners have got together earlier in the season and decided to "run the jurnos ragged" over the driver market.
If that's the case they will be laughing all the way to the end of season.

    As for Andrew Benson..................................
EJ was there or thereabouts on Michael though.

I think EJ is just used as a pawn, though, rather than having insider knowledge. Little birds whisper things in EJ's ear purely because they KNOW he will blab.

Hulkenberg would be a solid #02 driver to bring home points for the team and no threat to Alonso which is really a big part to Ferrari picking the #02 driver for 2013!

I don't know, but there's something up with Ferrari and Massa. I think if they were determined to bring back next season we would have heard an announcement by now. I think they are still talking with someone else, I just don't know who, I would have guessed Di Resta.

Luca DM said he needed a few more days so I think soon we'll find out. Ferrari may be among the last to confirm its driver lineup for next season.

Lotus looks set to retain their drivers so we can expect an announcement from them, and I think we'll start hearing all the announcement as things settle down starting with Lewis making his move.

Just the right weight, height, knows Ferrari, why not put Jean Todt in Massa's seat? He can also tell himself to let Alonso pass. Oh and he can tell Massa's mgr. also to let him pass right into that seat. Age wise if the chin can get away with it, why not give Todt a shot?

I am a big fan of the Hulk, and wouldn't mind him at all.

But I don't want to seem him ruin his career, and I struggle to think what he would offer that Felipe doesn't.

    @ REDARMYSOJA,

Yes, I personally think your right. I believe Ferrari are up to something and we will hear an announcement shortly. My feeling is Any of the new Formula One Drivers mentioned will fill his seat. Di Resta, Hulkenburg, Grojean, Maldonado, etc. are all seasoned drivers now and a one year contract with Ferrari would be a good test to see what they have and certainly not threaten Alonso at all. It could be a "Win / Win" situation for both Ferrari and any of these young drivers.

    Ciao.

Very true. If they made up their mind to keep him for another year, what's holding the announcement ?

@Suzie, no post on this forum, Twitter or anywhere else will have a bearing on what happens with Felipe's contract, so might as well we let everybody express their personal opinion.

Fact remains that the topic remains a very interesting one, after all there was another Felipe thread which was closed a few days ago, and here we are reading almost 300 new posts about the topic!

Its factually impossible for Ferrari to have any long term plans involving Schumi due to his age

But, if Luca DM is looking for a stop gap for a year, stranger things could happen. Though I really doubt its Schumi.

I don't know what LDM is playing at.
    1. Is he keeping us all guessing?
    2. Is he trying to find AN other for the no. 2 seat?
    3. OR is all signed & sealed with Felipe & they are keeping the jurnos guessing?

I don't fancy Hulk in the no. 2 seat.-----I like him but I don't want him at Ferrari.------------there again Michael rates him so could that explain why he was seen at Maranello??????

I just hate waiting not knowing

    Here's one for you then.

Alonso will become champion this season, and will retire immediately with 3 WDC under his belt. He will be replaced by Schumi, who will in turn help Felipe become WDC in 2013.

And they, and we, will all live so happily ever after...

If we are to invest in a new driver for when fernando is done, i don't think they should bring him right away, the young driver would be better staying in a smaller team for at least another year or so, and only then bring him to ferrari, there's no point of wanting some driver that has the potential that fernando has, to come to ferrari to be second driver. it will only hurt them, the pressure and everything.

why a driver as talented as fernando did not leave minardi and signed with ferrari? and went instead to renault? if a driver is talented to the likes of nando and michael and knows so, he will never sign to be anyone's second, not even when they are that young. anyway i think that the next big thing for ferrari after alonso decides to call it a day would be vettel. and we can say all we want that redbull made him #1, but the same happened with fernando, it's not like fisi was ever to beat fernando, and so it worked he won both his championships this way. actually fernando and vettel has alot in common. though i think vettel might have had an even better first season with minardi/toro rosso.

but i find it dreadful to be thinking about that far in the future, i enjoy fernando and felipe too, i really like this pair, don't look forward to seeing any of them out of ferrari.

Ferrari cannot wait until Alonso leaves to find another new driver to take his place. We can't just go to any driver, knock on their door with an offer and expect them to head over to Italy as we wish. Ferrari needs to secure the best talent. The idea is to get young fresh talent who doesn't think like Lewis or Vettel who wants to be #1. Lewis and Vettel are WDC winner so they can demand that, but its a luxury Perez and other young driver don't have.

Perez went to McLaren knowing very well that he was plan B. He knew McLaren wanted Lewis and not him. He knows Button will be the one fighting for the title next year and he will get the team's full support. Perez have yet to win a race. But Perez went anyway because as a young driver in his position, he cannot have the same demand as a proven driver. He has to take the first opportunity that knocks on his door to be in a top team.

If Ferrari brings in a young driver with the intention of keeping him and nurturing him as a Ferrari driver, then it doesn't matter how he look to the public. He may come in 2nd all the time but so what? Ferrari knows what's going on. Ferrari don't care what the public think.

Besides, if a young driver can finish 2nd to Alonso all the time, that's one hell of an achievement. You don't need to beat Alonso to shine.

Does anyone else think it's far too early to predict who will be number 1 at Ferrari after Fernando retires? He's signed until 2016, and there's always the possibility that he continues to drive for Ferrari after that. We still have the rest of '12, '13, '14, '15, and '16 left, so why don't we concentrate on now instead of 4.3 seasons in the future?
