I don't know if its possible, but I did a search online and Wiki says Kubica is 27. Both Alonso and Massa right now are 31 (learned something new) and they both are doing well at 31 so age wise its possible to be competitive at 31.
Therefore if Kubica can somehow regain his physical ability to race in an F1 car in 2-3 years time, he may return at the age of 30 or 31 which I guess its ok.
Of course I'm no expert so maybe 2-3 years is a big ask and I'm way off mark.
The earliest Kubi will be back in F1 is 2014. Ferrari should just get Kovalainen, he has experience from Renault, McLaren and Caterham (Team Lotus). He has the knowhow from top teams as well as from a newer team with young bright engineers..
He has been solidly beating his teammate in the past 2 years and he has worked with Alonso earlier on in his career. Plus they seem to get along quite well if that matters.. Kovy probably wouldn't ask for a big salary either plus he will bring in more solid and STABLE performances than Felipe has been bringing this year.
Just my 2 cents.
KOVALAINEN MANAGER SUMMONED TO MARANELLO - REPORT
Friday 14 September at 08:35 : Sep.14 (GMM) Finnish reports say Heikki Kovalainen's management have been summoned to Maranello.
The speculation follows Ferrari president Luca di Montezemolo ruling out Sergio Perez as Felipe Massa's 2013 successor, due to his lack of experience.
Finn Kovalainen, 30, is on the market after three years of rebuilding his reputation at Caterham, following his less-than-shining first three years in F1 at Renault and McLaren.
The Finnish broadcaster MTV3 said representatives of Kovalainen's management team at IMG Worldwide will travel to Maranello next week.
However, some consider Force India's Nico Hulkenberg as a more likely candidate to oust Brazilian Massa.
But, given Montezemolo's comments about experience, the 25-year-old German is only marginally more experienced than Mexican Perez.
A Ferrari spokesman told Brazil's O Estado de S.Paulo newspaper: "Do not apply what our president said (about experience) to other drivers.
"He (Montezemolo) was asked about Perez, and the response was specific to him."
The newspaper also said it doubts Ferrari's 2007 title winner Kimi Raikkonen is a candidate.
"Forget Ferrari. Kimi is not going there," a source close to the Lotus driver is quoted as saying.

CAVALLINO RAMPANTE PER SEMPRE
Screw it, just bring Schumi back.
Just heard Enrico Zanarini has visited Maranello.
Does that mean Eddie Irvine is on the way back------the jurnos would love it. Eddie was always good for a quote.
I like Kovalainen but he's not better than Massa----nah don't believe it.
If I heard that Hulk was favourite to take Michael's job (should he retire) then that would be plausible but no he's not going to Maranello----I just can't see it.![]()
Forza Jules
Don't really think Kovalainen is the right fit for Ferrari, he's no better than Felipe either. Just because Felipe is in a Ferrari, we all expect him to perform miracles, whatever the car is like. It's getting seriously tedious to keep banging on about his replacement and nothing we say will influence the outcome. So let's just enjoy the Felipe and Rob show for however long it lasts, with permanent radio message transmission too!. Still think Perez is the most suitable option, should it have to happen, though.
