Singapore GP 2012 - Qualifying Thread

Ok we were great all season apart from after Singapore. We were never benefiting from a fragile Red Bull. Red Bull took pole in 15 races out of 19.

I think Seb had a car problem in about half of the opening 8 races.

Why are you putting words in my mouth I have never said? I wrote: "We made a good progress after the half of the season which gave us great chance" I don't think it says that we did have great car for whole season or is it? We have great car for 4-5 races and tha it faded away again. Yes we were gaining a lot from failg Bulls but at the end, we were not able to take the chance we had. And this year is starting to look the same. We have incredible chance of winning this thanks to all the circumstances throughout the year but it looks to me it is to much for us to handle it.

I said we were not quick enough all season, you said not true. So when were we quick enough? Red Bull failing was the only reason we had any chance. Maybe if Alonso never made a jump start, and spin at Spa then we would be winning a title, but it's easier to just blame it on Ferrari I guess

We have a chance to win it this year, but personally I don't need the title standings to justify Alonso as the best driver this season.

Singapore GP - 13 – Lucky or not?9.22.2012

Marina Bay, 22 September - In the high-tech, highly scientific world of Formula 1 there is no room for superstition, but people like playing with numbers and so it was noteworthy that, come the end of tonight’s qualifying for the Singapore Grand Prix, Fernando Alonso had qualified in fifth place for the thirteenth time since he joined Scuderia Ferrari. With all the uncertainties that lurk behind the safety barriers at any street circuit, that fifth place could be translated by a man of Fernando’s talent into something better tomorrow, at the end of 61 inevitably exciting laps of Marina Bay.

The number 13 also figured in Felipe Massa’s Saturday evening in Singapore, but less auspiciously than for his Scuderia team-mate: all weekend long, the Brazilian has struggled to get his F2012 working to his liking, and mainly down to tyre problems, he found himself marooned in Q2, in thirteenth place on the grid. But, nevertheless, points could well be on the agenda for Felipe tomorrow in a race where anything can happen. Strategy is the first factor to look at and, in Massa’s case, failing to make the top ten means he is free to choose what tyre to start the race with: Fernando will have to start on the Supersoft, as that’s what he used in Q3, but maybe the slightly longer lasting Softs will prove handy for Massa.

The championship is the main aim come the end of November and with this in mind, two of Fernando’s closest rivals start ahead of him: the combination of Lewis Hamilton and the McLaren was quite simply unbeatable today, the Englishman lapping around half a second quicker than anyone else in Q3 to secure pole for the fifth time this year. Sebastian Vettel, who is currently fourth in the Drivers’ classification secured third place on the grid today in his Red Bull, but the real surprise came from Venezuela, in the shape of Pastor Maldonaldo. He put in a breathtaking lap in the Williams to secure the second spot on the front row. Vettel shares row two with Jenson Button in the second McLaren, while Fernando has Paul di Resta outside him on row 3 in the Force India. Felipe shares row 7 with the Ferrari Driver Academy student, Sergio Perez in the Sauber.

Not that scary, maybe they see nothing to update and are at the end of what they can do.

Germany, Hungary (track that didn't suit us at all and still we did really good), Spa (bad luck For Alonso, Massa good tho) Monza, Singapore. From Singapore we went down again. As I said, not by much, but it was enough for Bulls. I have never said we were great for all season... NEVER.

Lewis commented to the press “Our car has quite a nice balance but we still need to make some further set-up changes”, he went on to explain “My race pace didn’t feel great from inside the cockpit, but my engineers tell me it was quite promising.

We was the best in Germany. We were fantastic on track that was the worst for us from the whole championchip. Spa - they admited they have had bad setup or something and Alonso messed up quali. Monza we have had the best car. Singapore we were an par with Bulls. From that point we were again only second (in best case) again. So we did have great car in that time, but we were outdeveloped. It is quite clear isn't it?

No it's not very clear at all, Red Bull had the best car by some margin no matter if we got close now and then.

Basically, we were only able to fight for the wins in the pointy-squirty circuits like Hockenheim, Bahrain, Singapore because the car was excellent under braking, had good traction and was able to ride the bumps well which helped alot in Bahrain and Singapore. We would have been fighting for the win in Monaco too without the mistake from Alonso in FP3.

Monza was more of a one off with our special low downforce F duct.

and we have been out developed by MCL. Without Alonso we would be lost.

Heres to hoping for a solid mistake free race for Alonso and hopefully a mistake or reliability problem for Hami.

and Alonso was saying b4 the weekend that with all the updates coming for singapore he will take the fight and go for POLE...
little did he know that the updates ferrari brought here were FAR from being able to fight for pole...
what a dissapointmet, ferrari has let this magnificent driver down again...

oh well, onwards we move and let's hope that next race the updates will work better

The guys at Skysports kept mentioning that during their post qualifying interview. Martin Whitmarsh seems amuse too. Well, I hope Maldonado prove them right today with their golden boy.
