    Japanese GP build up/news

(I wasn't really sure which thread to put this in sorry.)

    Jon Noble ‏@NobleF1
Have heard some bad news about Jenson Button. He needs a new gearbox for the Japanese GP so will get a five-place grid penalty. Story soon

Jenson Button to get gearbox-change penalty for the Japanese GP

Jenson Button will have a five-place grid penalty for the Japanese Grand Prix because he needs a new gearbox for the Suzuka weekend, AUTOSPORT can reveal.

The Briton returns to the scene of his brilliant victory 12 months ago, 75 points adrift of championship leader Fernando Alonso, and well aware that only a victory will keep alive his slim title hopes.

But he has already been given some bad news, with post-race investigations of his gearbox after the Singapore GP uncovering an identical gearbox problem to that which had put Lewis Hamilton out of the race.

McLaren has no option but to change Button's gearbox for a new one, which means he will moved down five places on the grid.

Hamilton will also be fitted with a new gearbox, but he will not suffer any penalty as he did not finish the last race.

McLaren technical director Paddy Lowe told AUTOSPORT: "Jenson's gearbox had the same problem as Lewis's gearbox during the Singapore Grand Prix, and subsequent investigation has revealed a terminal failure.

"Therefore both cars must start the Japanese Grand Prix with new gearboxes, which means that Jenson will receive a five-place penalty.

"Of course, this is a great disappointment for Jenson and the team. On the positive side, we have understood and completely resolved the issue, allowing both drivers to compete with confidence for podium positions."

Hamilton heads to the Japanese GP 52 points behind Alonso, with six races remaining in this year's title battle.

don't think that will happen, as where would lewis be taking that no.1 to?

I assume Lewis doesn't get a grid penalty because of his expiring during the race?

We will win WDC this year with FA. I have a very strong feeling. Ferrari knows how to do these things and FA will drive wisely I am sure.

Lets enjoy the next few races

Lewis will be thinking about Merc and his $$, Jenson his #1 driver spot and gearbox, Vettel on how FA and LH will conspire against him and Kimi, no comments

I really believe this too, eddie. I believe we will win the title by less than 10 pts, exciting but nail biting. i am loving my F1 just like the Schumi days.

That is some very welcome new indeed. One more competitor out of the way hopefully. All our drivers have to do is qualify in the top 5 positions.
The more penalties rival drivers incur the better our chances in the race.
On a different note has anyone heard about the tsunamis in Japan? Will they affect the race this weekend?

Unfortunately its the wrong competitor. I'd have been MUCH happier if it were Lewis, Seb or Mark having to change their gearbox.

I do. It will end with me drinking and partying because we won winning the championship or me drowning my sorrows with drink because we didn't win the championship. Either way I'll be drinking.

I have still a champagne I bought in 2010 just before the last race to celebrate Alonso's WDC. Well... It's about time to open it already!
