Question Mercedes could push for Ecclestone axe

(Not totally sure how much truth is behind this, but even still......)

Saturday 13 Oktober at 14:35 : Oct.13 (GMM) Mercedes could push to have Bernie Ecclestone removed as F1's chief executive, the Suddeutsche Zeitung newspaper reports on Saturday.

The report said that even though the German carmaker has signed up for the 2013 Concorde Agreement, it is still concerned about the investigation into Ecclestone's alleged involvement in the bribery of jailed banker Gerhard Gribkowsky.

If the 81-year-old Briton is prosecuted, Mercedes would apparently push fellow teams and sponsors to band together and demand that Ecclestone step down.

"We would not wait for a months-long process, but would act," a Mercedes source is quoted as saying.

But an official Mercedes spokesman replied: "Please understand that we do not comment on speculation."

Another rumour is that in the event Ecclestone is formally charged, he would travel to the 2012 finale in Sao Paulo with his new Brazilian wife, and then not return to Europe where he could be arrested.

A friend of Ecclestone's is quoted as responding: "Nonsense."

That would be only good if that greedy little old man would be removed from Formula 1 completely. I've never liked him much anyway.

But so do we. We and Merc are the only engine manufactures in F1.

I agree with you there, he is greedy, but that is because of CVC, got pay back the debts they got when they bought F1, shame as high ticket prices, hosting fees etc etc. But... what he has done for this sport since the 70s is amazing. Pushed F1 into the global mega sport it is.

A small point, Ferrari dont want small engines either Luca said this last month , they dont use them in their production cars and I feel would still rather be developing larger engines for their share in the sports car market.

As for Bernie I am sure he can afford the right legal eagles to keep himself out of trouble

Yeah, Luca DM himself didn't want it. He never wanted it.

Without out all development and no restriction on the engine performance, I doubt anyone would have an advantage. The engine will just get saturated quickly. Its limited in capacity and RPM. So its pointless really.

Those small engines with force induction doesn't cut it. It would be like watching a Mini car racing cup with super aero.

    I think it's a bad idea, for f1.

Sorry, bit all talk is, that 2014 going to be god for us and Merc, plus the aero rules change aswell. Smaller rear and front wings. The front wings become more narrow like we used to have them. Not sure how the rear wing is going yet.

The 2014 rule changes can only help Ferrari. Aero isnt one of the team's strong points,so opening up the engine to development is the only thing which can bring our glory days back...
