Vettel 24th is hopefull, he may still get points from there though, so in theory, Fernando needs to get a podium, his lead back and he'll have the momentum to go on and win it!

You can stop the car halfway, but you must still have enough fuel to bring the car back in normal condition. If the car does not have enough fuel to actually return to pit, then a penalty will be given

Not setup change, but if they can prove something is broken, they can fix it. Ferrari did with Alonso roll bar in Monza (thankfully ) But the stewards will make sure the broken part is replace with the exact same thing, no setup is changed, and the stewards will take the broken part.

Well, Alonso said that he did the maximum. Upgrades = Downgrades?

Yes, of course the engine rule and gearbox rule still applies.

If they need an extra engine, or new gearbox, then off he goes down the grid

Or, you know, maybe there's not enough blanket to cover everything, so he either setups his car to be fast in qualy and slow in races, or faster in race and slower in qualy, either way his feet are going to get cold no matter what he chooses.
Not saying it's a bad car, just that red bull and mclaren are better, and he has to sacrifice things to make sure he can compete on Sundays.

BTW, if he didn't deliver how is it that he is almost always faster than Massa both in qualy and in the race? or are we back to the theories that Massa is worthless and no yardstick (even though he just got a contract extension over highly valued youngsters)?

Its not showing in the lap times, and the team have been playing a game of mix and match all weekend long.
you're not looking hard enough. From Q1 to Q2 he improved by 0.4, if he had done the same
for Q3, he would comfortably be in P4. Alonso and Grosjean were the only ones not to
    improve in Q3.

Surely you can't change the engine between qualifying and the race without a penalty?

Alonso did 3 laps in qualifying all within a tenth of 41.5. That was clearly the limit which does not say a lot about the upgrades.

His Q2 time is better than his Q3 time. More rubber on track, faster time. I don't think he did his maximum. Or he did, but made a mistake. Well we can't do anything about it now. Let's just hope for a better race result tomorrow!

In case you didn't notice, Alonso had all of the new updates, Felipe only a couple of them.

Alonso made a mistake in Q3,If Ferrari are all talk what about him? He didn't
do the maximum, he should shut up and drive rather
    than talk drivel.

You did not take into account the fact that the tires were warmed up in Q2 due to multiple runs. This is the exact same pattern we saw throughout free practice. People were setting faster time lap after lap. Ferrari had no problem when we are doing this too.

Our problem comes when we need to bring the tires up to temperature in less than 1 lap. This is our weakness, and its not the first time. Last year they introduced changes to the rear suspension just to allow the tires to slide around more a little bit in an attempt to warm it up faster.

No, I think any engine change after the weekend has started while the car is in parc ferme would mean starting from put lane or a 10 place grid drop.

If they had to change engine they really shouldn't get away with it.
