Alonso: We need to find perfection

Fernando Alonso has revealed that Ferrari have brought even more updates to Abu Dhabi in the hope of closing the gap to Red Bull.

With three races remaining starting with this weekend's grand prix at the Yas Marina circuit, Alonso is in the midst of an intense battle for the Championship.

The Spaniard is second in the standings, 13 points behind Sebastian Vettel, however, the momentum is definitely with the German and his blisteringly quick RB8.

Ferrari, though, are doing all they can to close the gap out on track and in the standings.

"There are some new parts coming that we well have to check tomorrow," Alonso said.

"We don't think that we will close the gap completely to Red Bull from India and five days later in Abu Dhabi to be competing with them with the same performance, there is not any magic button in Formula 1. It will not change completely the car from black to white.

"But we try to get closer and put some more pressure on. I think they have had a very easy four races so far, so they have a lot of margin and they can do little mistakes with not any penalty."

The double World Champ added that Ferrari need to be on their toes in order to capitalise on any small mistake from Red Bull such as Mark Webber's KERS issue in India, which allowed Alonso to take second off the Australian.

"We want to be so close to them to take opportunity of everything that they don't do perfect. So we need to find perfection this weekend, or these next three weekends, and be very close to them to attack in the races.

"I think things go up and down for everybody. There are four consecutive ups for Red Bull, so we think they will go down before later.

"We know that Red Bull sometimes is a little bit more fragile because we saw in the last race (that) Webber lost KERS.

"We need to push them. We need to be at the limit all the race through because if they have easy races...for example, in India if the KERS fails on Vettel's car nobody would notice because he's 10 seconds in front.

"We cannot do another race with him 10 seconds in front. We need to be right there."

    More to it::

Alonso also dismissed suggestions in the Italian press that he had been involved with a row with Ferrari technical chief Pat Fry in India.

"That was a very nice invention from the Italian media," said Alonso.

"It was quite creative to be honest - but it is all history. Now or later I will speak to him [the journalist] to understand a little bit better how he came up with this imagination.

"I think nothing is really frustrating. We know, and it is a fact, that we are slower than Red Bull, but we all agree on this – the team, me, our fans, everyone knows this.

"We are working very hard and are very united to improve this situation."

Somebody has been on bbc sport lol!

This is very true what Alonso says. We must get everything out of the car and give Fernando the best possible chance to beat Vettel. But the bad thing for us is even if we are perfect these next 3 races, were still going to need a helping hand from either the Mclarens or a bit of Red Bull unreliability. Failing that im sure Grosjean or Maldonado could punt Vettel off the track :)

I believe that if Fernando can stay on Vettel's tail and make him work the Red Bull car hard, then he or the car will crack up.

Its all in the name - FERRARI

The most important thing at the moment needed to fight with the Red Cow is a much improved quali pace. We already have an excellent race pace, but we need to have a better quali pace. Hopefully the new updates coming in Abu Dhabi will deliver that much needed quali pace. I believe that if Alonso could at least get a 3rd starting position then we would have a great chance to challenge for the win.
But I'm afraid this weekend could be very difficult for us, as our car lacks downforce and the Red Cow's car is perfectly suited for a track like this. But hopefully the new parts will improve our car's performance considerably.
    Fingers crossed...

the left side(2,4,6..) od the start line is better for starting then right(1,3,5..) side, because the race line where car exists from the last corner passes through the left side of the start lini.left side is more cleanly then right side

I am just hoping most of the huge aero packages works tomorrow and I am sure Alonso will do the rest.

Really for Ferrari to turn things around Sunday. They deserve it !

I'll bet that Horner is a cheapskate and he just didn't wanna pay for the fuel.

in italy, FA had a bad qualifying due to half a euro component problem, what value of fuel cost Vettel a penalty, this is a land of cheap petrol

What component was it exactly that failed on Alonso's car in Monza?

it was a BOLT that came loose that normally holds the rear anti-roll bar; it's ironic that it only costs half an euro, but it surely robbed Fernando of pole position as well as a possible 25 points that race
So the SF-24 has been a decent car. Lets hope that the totally redesigned from the ground up SF-25 contender will be a beast that will give us tifosi something to smile about.

Yea, the success and failure in F1 can be down to the smallest of detail. Amazing how something so small and cheap can make such a big difference in motorsport. It just blows my mind.

    Ok, thanks for clarifying that.

And yes, that half an euro bolt sure was very costly for us.

You obviously never watched the 'air crash investigation' series. Something as small and cheap as a screw can bring down an airplane and kill hundreds of people. The saying 'the devil is in the detail' is not there for nothing...
