    Engine options

I have an idea about the engines. Is it possible and legal for Ferrari to make 20 engines (with about 50-60hp more than current engines) that would last for one race?
This would (in theory) mean eight 1-2 wins in the first eight races and at least 80 points (more likely 100-110) ahead in drivers championship after those eight races. After that, next 12 races we will start with a 10 place grid penalty and would be able to (with 50hp advantage and DRS) at least fight for podium.

    Is this too risky?

There would be a problem or a too big of a compromise in that otherwise they (and other engine makers) would've done it or the FIA would've come up with more regulations...
    And very risky!

Not legal or possible as the engines are frozen.

But nobody would now for that before 9th or 10th race and than it would be to late for FIA to change the regulations and most likely to late for other engine makers...

Engine by it self is not a crucial part in a speed of a car. Aerodynamics is more crucial!

You want to say that Alonso in Austin with engine with +50hp would not be able to beat Hamilton and Vettel!?

Most probably yes. Because F2012 is very, very, very low on mechanical grip and DF. On other circuit like, Monza or SPA, very easily with huge margin.

I think he would be fastest with +50hp engine in Austin. But problem is FIA would never allow to race with such a car (because of the engine freeze as Greig has already said). And if FIA woudn't notice the change of specification of Ferrari engine at the start of next year the rivals would notice for sure. They use various methods to estimate the power of engines.
