With side pods that small, how are they going to cool the whole thing?
That's why i think they will stay with the step nose, it probably has an air intake, like last year, to cool some components, through an inner channel.

Canīt help it, but for a couple of years I feel others are always better at making the rear and sidepods much smaller. Are they packing their stuff better or does Ferrari not feel the need to have the sidepods that slim and tight?
I feel from the cockpit and toward the rear of the car we seem a bit bulky. Even if we improved the cokebottle shape this year towards the bottom it still feels a bit bulky.
That might change. Just a feeling I get...
The RB looks like a bag of jelly beans. Are they sure they got every colour on it they wanted? How about adding some pink- or turquoise?
The livery of the RB9 looks so awful LOL! That purple is so ugly!
You're right, Ferraris sidepods are a lot bulkier than most, but the sidepods on show at the F138 launch were just the ones on the F2012 at the end of last year with make up on.
It has been heavily suggested that they will change and strong rumour that Ferrari will have RbR exhausts and DDRS, none of which was shown at launch.
Tombazis said that the launch cars aero was done around October last year, and the final aero package has not been seen yet, with Resta (the new guy in charge of the F138) saying this will include revised sidepods and exhausts for further aero gain.

I hope thats true. That would mean that the radiators and exhaust and so on are tighter underneath the skin and that we could just mount the proper sidepods with the upgraded aeropackage.
If we should run the sidepods we showed at the launch we wouldnīt have to change the angles of the radiators for example.

And just as Ferrari, this RB is a far cry from the one that we'll see in the opener.
Would have to really agree with that. TBH, the car really doesn't show anything drasticly new. The back's looks really similar to last year, with a small change to the exhaust (wider exit). Sidepod intels are smaller which doesn't really give you much, rather more problems with overheating. The nose slots are covered with a small panel. Rather surely Newey has something big instored for the 3rd test/Australia.
Hard to tell from this angle, found another, intakes are significantly smaller, in this comparison the side pods don't look as small as everybody is saying.

Either they're really hiding something, which is unlikely, or they're afraid competition might realize they simply dont have an answer for 2013.

IF YOU CAN DREAM IT, YOU CAN DO IT - ENZO FERRARI
@Massimo
Good photo found there. Actually, they don't look smaller at all, maby a few centimeter, but nowhere near Sauber, who said they got it 10-15cm smaller than last year. Not sure what's with the smaller intels.
I think we will see greater attention to the impact of the New Spec Pirelli tires and how to have consistent performance out of them through their operating life. Attention to the reducing the drag from the tires and how to best deal with the air flow disturbance the tires create in the area of influence on the race car. I think we will see more Cascade Elements on the front wings with much more complex detail elements to "taylor or Dial In" just the right amount of downforce, channel air flow and to reduce the drag generated by the mass of the tires.

To be honest, it's fun so far to see that nor McLaren, nor Ferrari have went fully RedBull way. Diff exhausts, diff front suspensions (McL and us with really high ones pull-rod and RBR with low push-rod)
I do not see anything special from any of the teams yet. Most have "dumbie" wings, front and rear. Ferrari seem to have an advanced rear wing design with flow channeling slots. It will be interesting to see what the final test yields. The Red Bull nose design deals with the nose step by sloping the forward edge of the nose cone to defect air over the step. My take and review of the Sidepod sizes and containment of the radiator cooling flow is that I would use the front wing and other surface areas of the race car to cool engine fluids and reduce the size of the sidepod areas further.

So basically did Red Bull shown anything new yet on their car? (apart from the nose without the hole now)

Is that a different suspension system in the rear, or is it just like a torsion bar or something...im really bad when it comes to mehanics etc...sorry!
Regarding the new 2013 Red Bull race car; I do not see anything drasticly different from last year's race car and we have to see what Cascade Elements at the front and rear wings and what turning vanes elements they have added to better channel flow. I am sure they have tweaked the rear shrink the bodywork further and likely improved flow influence to the rear diffuser aiding rear downforce, though the general layout and design is not very differnt for the 2012 race car. I would like to compare the floor shape and design from the 2012 design to this year's race car. The front, leading edge of this year's floor seems to be altered to better direct flow around the sidepods.

Smalle inlets will help reduce drag, and the undercut at the front of the pods is alot less agressive than last years, more a gentle curve. Nothing special, i know only launch car, but im not getting nervous about their race car come Melbourne, as Newey and his team have exploited alot of the loopholes and "cheating" which the FIA have made it harder to do it this year.
F138, still the sexiest car of the grid.

@ sagi58,
I think the Sidepods are in the exactly the same position and not further back. Look at the point on the tube where the Sidepod starts. It is at the same point on the 2012 race car. ?I see very little in the way any major changes. Only the vent on the nose is changed fro the 2012 race car. Remember that this is the "presentation" model and NOT the final race car but I do noit see any fundamental or structural changes on this car from the 2012 model.
