Thumbs up Byrne working on Ferrari's 2014 car!

Rory Byrne, Ferrari legendary former chief designer, was at the launch of the team’s 2013 car at Maranello on Friday.

He told Auto Motor und Sport he is actually “working full steam” on the Italian team’s project for the 2014 car, which will be powered by the all-new turbo V6 rules.

“It’s a nice car,” the South African – referring to the newly-launched F138 – laughed, “but it’s all child’s play compared to what awaits us in 2014.”

Until then, Ferrari has the 2013 title to win after a so far five-year championship drought, and boss Stefano Domenicali confirmed that his designers have adopted some “extreme solutions” to compete with Red Bull.

“We are just waiting for Newey to complain about our rear suspension,” Auto Motor und Sport quoted a team insider.

The German report said the insider is referring to the rear profile that duplicates the 2012 Red Bull — only more extremely

Hope this won't be a case of 'too many cooks' working on the 2014 car, sounds as if they're really throwing everything at regaining our rightful place at the top, so suppose we shouldn't complain!

    Great news
2014 will be a major change, a reset. Looks like Ferrari is bringing out the big gun to make sure we are at the top.

I think Ferrari is getting additional cook to start on 2014 before 2013 even begin rather than mixing them all together. Our current designers will still have to focus on the 2013. So its good if we can get another designer to start on the 2014 without needing to worry about 2013

yh for the F138...i personally think we will see the real car in the 3rd test, however this worries me somewhat as it doesnt really give us a lot of time to fine tune and our drivers to fully understand the car...as we saw with red bull last year who shipped out a totally new car in the final test!

if there is some truth in this, i mean Rory is REALLY working hard on the 2014 car; then i'm sure that him along with all other brainiacs engineers at Ferrari can and WILL come up with something special, something fast....something that will give Newey a run for his money....

man would i love to see a starting of a new dominant era for Ferrari coming with the new regulations in 2014....win back to back to back to back to back to back championships...i may sound boring for some (especially Macca and red fool fans), but i LIKED THAT KIND OF BORING!!!!!

guess we'll have to wait and see what 2014 and beyond has in stores for us FANS...
So the SF-24 has been a decent car. Lets hope that the totally redesigned from the ground up SF-25 contender will be a beast that will give us tifosi something to smile about.

Yes!! This is fantastic news. Rory is the master of finding loopholes and he will destroy Newey, while Marmorini will destroy those douchebags from Renault Sport.

Is Rory Byrne the actual designer of the F146 (2014, 6 cylinders)? It would be great if he took over from the underperforming Nicholas Tombazis.

Besides 2 WDC's and 1 WCC with Benetton, Byrne's Ferrari's took 71 race victories, six consecutive constructors titles and five consecutive drivers titles. Mamma mia!

Ferrari needs all the tools they can get! Rory Byrne as part of the Design Team is huge and he has always been the foil to repell Newey. In the end, just like Red Bull or McLaren, it is the "Collection of Engineers" to make the team great. No "One Engineer" is the sole reason but the Team of Engineers together yeild some very special creations. Ferrari has drasticly revamped the Aero Department and are using very good tools now. 2013' and 2014' will be good years for Ferrari. Last year they came very close but the prize got away.

    Ciao,

    Forza Ferrari!!!!

Rory Bryrne Hands on with 2014 Car!

Apologies if already posted, this is the first I have come to know of it and I am proper excited. Newey will finally learn who's boss:

"Designer Rory Byrne, who oversaw the cars that made Ferrari the dominant force in F1 in the late 90s and early 2000s, is back with the team.

The South African-born Byrne was Ferrari's chief designer from 1996 to 2006 and under his guidance the Italian outfit netted five World Championships and six Constructors' titles.

Byrne left his role as full-time member of the team at the end of the 2006 season but remained on as a consultant as Ferrari won a further two Constructors' gongs and Kimi Räikkönen took the 2007 Championship.

Ferrari have not tasted success since, but with a host of new regulations coming into play in 2014, the Scuderia appear to have turned to their tried and tested designer in the hope of ending Red Bull's dominance.

Auto Motor und Sport have quoted Byrne as saying that he is "working full steam" on Ferrari's 2014 challenger.

The 69-year-old added that the 2013 challenger, the F138, is a "nice car", but "child's play" in comparison to what is to come."

Here is the original. Still doubt it (he might have just been cracking a joke) but there you go. Interesting what he said about the F138 being childs play compared though.

If anyone fluent in German can give us a proper translation, that would be greatly appreciated

probably he said that because the F138 is more or less an aggressive evoltion of F2012,and for 2014 they have to desing an entirely new car with new rules to interpret!!!
theres a huge difference on the workload between the 2 projects!!

or he just saying to us that we will see great thing on the 2014 car!!

I don't believe a word of that article. Such a crappy publication get a scoop with Rory Byrne when the rest of the worlds media didn't even see him there? Not a sniff.

Ferrari confirm Byrne working on 2014 car

    Sunday 10th February 2013, 09:42 by TF1T Staff

    © Ferrari

Ferrari have confirmed that legendary designer Rory Byrne will be working on their 2014 Formula One car.

Speculation had linked Byrne, one of the sport's most successful designers - second only to Adrian Newey - to Ferrari again after he was spotted at the launch of their F138 for the upcoming season.

The 69-year-old has enjoyed great success at Benetton and Ferrari during the late '90s and early '00s, having won seven constructors' titles and six drivers' titles during his employment.

Byrne left the role of chief designer at Ferrari in 2006 and took an advisory position up until early 2009 before moving to Thailand where he ran a scuba-diving centre.

He has however remained involved with Ferrari, most recently having input into the F2012, which was runner-up to Red Bull's RB8 last year.

He has returned on a full-time basis and will assist Nicolas Tombazis and Fabio Montecchi, both of which are working on the 2014 design which will be the result of major regulation changes.

COME 2014 MY FRIEND, HE WILL AND ALWAYS BE NUMBER 1!!

Maybe Byrne's floor was great, but Ferrari themselves blew it, with all the wind tunnel drama's that made almost all the updates useless, who knows.

Byrne reinforces the Ferrari team for the 2014 car
Rory cooperates with Tombazis Montagues and the definition of the machine with the turbo
    February 10, 2013 10:55

Rory Byrne, after caring for the new Enzo, has been called to strengthen the technical staff at Ferrari in charge of the car in 2014, that will take the turbocharged 1.6-liter 6-cylinder with energy recovery. The team of Cavallino, according to the rumor released today by La Gazzetta dello Sport, which has boosted confidence that a technician would do to Australian Michael Schmidt, a journalist from Auto Motor und Sport. HELPED era SCHUMI A 69 years back to the forefront of the Australian Circus: collaboration with Ferrari began in 1996, after his car had won two world championships with Benetton. He attended Ross Brawn and Michael Schumacher at Ferrari helping to six Manufacturers' titles and five drivers Schumacher era: an unforgettable time. Then he chose to retire to go to Thailand where it has a diving school. ENZO TO THE NEW F1 2014 Call of Ferrari, however, was irresistible: Byrne became involved in the design of the new Enzo will be presented at the next Geneva Motor Show and now it seems more than willing to make its contribution in the design of the car turbo. Rory is one of the few who knows how to "interpret" the rules with imagination, one of the faults that characterizes some years the engineers of the Horse.
