Last year, qualifying time was mid 1.21 if I recalled correctly. So Vettel's 1.23 time is nothing compare to that, and it shows no one is trying to do absolute best time.

In other words, they are not showing their true pace today. We'll have to wait for Australia GP to see that.

Stop with the yapping about a season being written off and major problems with the car. It's the first day with the car for Fernando and the first day for the car here with new parts. As any year before, today it's aero testing. Don't expect us to do good laps or even consistent laps. A driver just does a few laps, going faster at some parts of the track and then slower elsewhere to see how the car acts, does the exhaust work as it should and so on. Check the times, very few teams are doing consistent laps, none of the front runners. Stop being so pessimistic as if you want to find flaws in the car...

Sorry if that sounded like dictating, guess i was a lil angry there with the pessimism we got here over IMHO nothing and some personal life things. Guess i could have added a few "should/shouldn't" here and there

Latest stints do look better indeed, it seems that Alonso tries out many aero things and handling...Times mean nothing of course but its interesting that RB is so ahead of others...They usually keep very low profile on tests and free practices...Are they already on another planet or are they a bit nervous about performance from other teams? :)

anayway the most important thing is that it seems Ferrari solved reliability problems, we're purring there most laps :)

Best time in FP2 last year was 1:23.399, perhaps that's a better benchmark to compare with.

Fernando has racked up some laps today so that is good for reliability and that is key to finishing a race at the moment he has done 93 laps the most of anyone so far!

Vettel put in a few very quick laps, but it looks like he was burning his tyres every time within 6 laps, Alonso's stints were very consistent, that could mean the F138 has better tyre management than the Red Bull.
