Last day of testing for Felipe Massa3.2.2013
Circuit: Catalunya Circuit, Montmelò – 4.655 km
Driver: Felipe Massa
Car: Ferrari F138
Weather: air temperature 9/16°C, track temperature 12/23 °C. Sunny.
Laps/Kms completed: 94/438
Best time: 1:21.266
Sunshine and good weather provided the backdrop to Scuderia Ferrari’s penultimate day of testing at the Catalunya Circuit. This was also the final appearance at testing for Felipe Massa, who will be back behind the wheel of the F138 at the Australian Grand Prix in about two weeks time.
In the morning, the team got through all its planned programme, centred mainly on evaluating some aerodynamic components over short distances, featuring constant speed runs. Felipe also began a Pirelli tyre comparison, which continued through into the afternoon.
After the lunch break, the job list included assessing various set-up changes on the car and some full speed pit stop simulations, including out laps and, for the first time, the team also tried the super soft compound. With less than half an hour remaining, a problem with the left front upright meant that Felipe had to stop the car on track, thus bringing a positive day to a slightly early end.
Testing continues at this circuit tomorrow, the final day, with Fernando Alonso at the wheel.

Why haven't we done a race simulation today? We're running out of time to do a proper one in the dry. We only have tomorrow left. And the wheel came off! Yes, I'm sure we'll get to grips with this and sort it out but investigating will take up precious time - time that could be used to analyse the behaviour of the car today. If they have to disassemble every part in a controlled manner to inspect the root cause of the problem it will take a lot of time! Yes, we have P1, P2 and P3 in Melbourne but the sessions aren't that long! Alonso is right in saying that Ferrari are little bit behind. We probably have a competitive car but I'm very surprised that we haven't done a proper race simulation in the dry yet. If we're pinning our hopes on doing that tomorrow let's just hope we don't run into any problems tomorrow. I don't think Ferrari are choosing to take such risk by leaving it to last day to do a proper race simulation out of choice - I think it could be forced on us because of some unknown problems?
I was earlier positive but have a mixed opinion now based on the work programme that was carried out by Ferrari today.
Shame Felipe's day ended so abruptly and lucky it was in a straight line and no fault of his own. I'm concerned that we'll have even more competition for high grid slots than last year, given the apparent speed of others, but I have faith that whatever simulations the team are doing, it's for a reason and even Melbourne won't necessarily show who's quickest overall, that won't become evident until probably Malaysia/China. First, though, we have to get to Q3 in Oz!!
maybe this is an upgrade for faster pitstop . The wheel that came off itself :D
Less then 2.5s. pit stop according to my stopwatch![]()
WOW that was amazing, that must be close to a world record time.
soooo quick, lets hope we can do it in the race and more importantly CONSISTENTLY!!
Wow that's a fantastic pitstop time. Would be really nice if we could limit our pitstops to 2.2-2.3 seconds all the time. The crew did an amazing job already last year during stops and it would be nice if we could be even faster!
Testing is short no team can do all they want. due to last years issues had to make sure correlation is right. once done you need setup. during same kind of run they gained 4 tenths on best lap in a space of a few hours. no point doing a race sim until have some form of setup.
I watched buttons world record pit stop 2.4 on you tube, for me Massa slightly quicker. Kyss4k you are right 2.2 2.3 Well done Ferrari.

Forza Melanie C!
Teams often break pit stop records during practises , but during the race is different thing!
I am not trying to diminish achievement of ferrari pit stop crew, just saying!
But ferrari has new hi-tech gadget for faster pit stops. On Scarb's twitter you can find photos and comparison of few teams rear jack system! Ferrari uses hydraulic rear jack that allows them to release car faster , because using power to lift up car isn't allowed, only to release it !
Check it out in video!
Ferrari is using at least two versions of the front lift jack.

Thanks, seems lotus and mercades also have such a system looking at his pics, as long as it dorsnt fail, can not believe how basic williams ones are tho!
He maybe right, last year mecedes wasn't slow... they were most of the time faster than us on quali, they were up there with the mecca and the bulls and sometimes would be faster than them, the only problem they have was the car was very hard on it's tires( degradation was very high)... mecedes is one of the teams that made plenty of pit stops last year...all they need to do was to sort out there tyre degradation, and who is the best person for that..Aldo Costa.
Man, that front jack alone probably cost more than my car
I think that's pretty close to what anyone can physically do. Its almost 1 sec wheel off, 1 sec wheel on, and release.![]()
hopefully the weather conditions will be clement today and FA will be able to achieve our great team testing program.
I wouldn't mind if he could also do a qualifying and race simulation, just to see how the car looks on track when pushed to the limit. Yesterday it looked very well during massa's fastets laps, very stable, jumping from one corner to an other, but I think I noticed that felipe was never using DRS?did I see right or not? cause I don't remember him opening DRS in the straight during his fast laps...
Anyways, the car looks in a way better shape than it did last year at this time, so let's just enjoy what could possibly be a "good start of season", sth that we didn't have the past 2 years !!!!

Alonso - the main attraction for the locals - is somewhere in the middle of that huddle. Honest!
