back in 2005, we had last qualifying session 5 hours before the race and australia's race was on right time (not customized for european viewer's) and that was almost torture - up, session over, sleep, up again... today's stuff reminds me that race

We weren't the fastest on wet but we looked ok. More than ok I would say. Alonso 2nd, Massa 6th.

Hard to say, on full wets Massa lost a wing and Alonso was over 1 second behind, once onto inters we looked a lot better.

The F138 looks to have a gentle suspension geometry, meaning, it's gentle on the tires. The RB9, on the other hand, is a madman. It gets them into temperature way too quickly.

They could have issues this season with heavy tire deg.

Weekends get written off for the next two weeks, as does sleep, Q2/3 will be midnight-ish, a bit late for us old codgers who need to be awake again by 0430. Whatever, Felipe had lucky escape in Q1 but was going well, Fernando looking better once on inters, but think it was the right thing to abandon till tomorrow as we don't want any aquaplaning Ferraris in the wall, Felipe's nose already looked a bit bent. So let's pray for at least both cars in Q3, hopefully better! G'day and arrivederci.

I'm reading some here say that we are not fast enough and that RBR are the fastest on dry. The thing is that the only reference is from fp2 and although I didn't watch it I read a couple of comments before that we probably had more fuel!I'm not saying that this is the case but I can't just listening all the time from everybody that RBR are the fastest even if they are 1s behind in the timesheets!!when q3 finish and we are 0'5 or more behind then I will accept it but until then from my point of view we might be the fastest!!!

It generally means that you qualify further down the order because you can't get enough heat into the tyres and that's a problem when you have the likes Lotus and Mercedes in front of you. Would say this year is rather different. Pirelli screwed up with the tires, hoping the SS would last close to 20 laps, but now it gets destroyed in 5. Really think that the first half of the season will be all about tire managing. Let RBR destroy their tires and drop down the grid. Mercedes had this problem in the past years, with outqualifying us and popping time to time good quali results, but then, prety much always going down the field in the race cause of tire deg. Having a feeling that RBR WILL dominate quali, but will lose out to us and Lotus badly when race comes.

Melbourne, 16 March –The starting grid for the Australian Grand Prix will not be decided until after 11 tomorrow morning. The Race Director took the decision to postpone Q2 and Q3 because of a violent storm that hit the Albert Park circuit. At the end of Q1, the only part of the proceedings that went ahead when the rain eased briefly, Fernando Alonso was second fastest in 1.43.850, behind the Mercedes of Nico Rosberg, (1.43.380.) In the other F138, Felipe Massa was sixth in 1.44.635, having survived a spin that saw him damage both wings against the barriers.



“It’s a shame that qualifying has been put back to tomorrow, “ commented Fernando following the announcement. “And that goes for the teams who were focussed on their preparations for the session, as well as the crowd who came to watch and the marshals who worked so hard on trying to dry the track. But it was the right decision given the track conditions, especially as the white lines were really too slippery. Now we must wait for tomorrow and see if the weather and the track improve.”

“The lines that mark out the edge of the track were very slippery,” agreed Felipe. “I ended up on one at the exit to a corner and lost control of the car, but I confess I was lucky. In my whole career, I’ve never managed to get back on track after such a heavy impact and I’m really happy to still be in the hunt for qualifying. Other drivers were in similarly risky positions, so I fully approve of the decision taken by the stewards. In the dry, we are up there with the best, now we must sort out fixing the damaged parts.”
