but by the way, in a race unlike a game where only 2 teams starts, there are over 20 racers, only 1 will win, so to love f1 by definition is also being a little elitest as you say, don't we want to win the races? it's just sports, the reasons to love a sports team can't be based on logic alone can it? how can everyone's team be the best team in the world?

Yes... Rivalry is very important as it gives you someone you love to beat, no doubt about it!

BUT, to say that other teams should not be winning just because they don't have a history
in the sport and that they aren't good enough to even participate because they don't have a
history is is "elitist"! In other words, it's biased and unfair.

Being the best on the track (or in any other competition) is not "elitist" by definition, but that
does make a WDC part of an elite group!

Elite: The best or most skilled members of a group.

Elitist: The belief that certain persons or members of certain classes or groups deserve favored treatment by virtue of their perceived superiority, as in intellect, social status, or financial resources.

Just trying to point out that just because a team hasn't been around since the beginning of F1 doesn't mean they can't be winning races/titles.

Also suggesting that if F1 was only about an "old boys' club" that didn't let anyone "new" in, then we'd have an elitist sport/organization in which most fans today may not be able to participate. And, we'd not likely have a forum, such as this, to discuss anything F1!

That last comment was to emphasize the fact that most elitist groups include Lords of the Manor and even Royalty. And, since I don't have that kind of blue blood I compared myself to Alice who was obviously in the wrong place!!

well sagi then i do apologize if that is the way you understood my position to be, i'm not like that, i do like it that new teams can try, and hopefully will be able to base themselves for a long run, i would love to have more of the big brands there, would love to see alfa back for instance.

But i still think redbull is no ferrari, just like vettel is no alonso, at least not for now.

PS Mercedes seems to be really taking this up a few notches don't you think? i even wish BMW wouldn't have left, they did a great 08 season, seemed like they were finally catching up to ferrari and mclaren.

No need to apologize, Poltergeistes! I wasn't sure I'd understood you, which is why I said it "seemed" that way!
Thank you for taking the time to clarify for me!!

To be completely honest, I don't remember much about other teams!! ( I know, I know, shame on me!! ))
And, I realize you need to keep your "enemies" close; but, all that sticks is usually something in reference or
    in comparison to Ferrari!!

After all, Ferrari is the only team that counts!!

This 3 week gap between races is obviously getting to some of us, so much so that we're starting endless discussions which aren't really topical or relevant to the here and now. I love hearing other people's comments and opinions, that's what the forum is here for, and to share our highs and lows. However, on the elitist point, I suppose the older fans amongst us do remember when F1 was very elitist, when it was still the garagiste-type teams and was an upmarket sport to follow. Ferrari, Lotus, BRM, Cooper, Brabham et al were the start of my F1 interest, but I expect by then the even older teams such as Maserati, Alfa, Vanwall, Mercedes were seen to be the originators of F1 as we know it today. And I do think we feel slightly elitist because we still support one of those older founding teams. Nothing at all wrong with that and long may it continue. We are the original tifosi and always will be.

Is there an end of discussion about Malaysian race? It was two weeks ago, and, thanks God, next race is in a week time!

NOT at all; because we know that Ferrari is the best of the best (i.e. the elite of the elite)!!
Besides, Tifosi can be found in all the corners of the world and in all areas of the social spectrum!!
    Therefore Ferrari is not elitist!

    ((p.s. good try!! ))

Quite agree, Stefa, but that's the problem with these long breaks between races, you've just got into the swing of it and then you're starved of action, makes it especially hard when the last race didn't do us any favours. Maybe China will be our turn to shine. We live in hope!
