I'm just stumped why no one else seems to be interested in a Ferrari engine next season.

Are we not the cheapest option at the moment and won't you blindly put money on the fact that Ferrari should be a very good engine option in F1?

I think yes from the technical point of view. There is for sure some difference in Marussia and Williams, Suber with all due respect to all of them...

But the data we get from the engine etc will be the same regardless, plus we are less likely to have our customer car beating us

Yes. You got a point there about customer car causing us a problem. That would be a problem, wouldn't it?

All the other top teams would not use a Ferrari engine, Mercedes have there own engines, Mclaren and Red Bull no chance, when Red Bull or Mclaren win a race using a Renault or Merc engine you never here praise for the engine manufacture, all the lime light is on the team. Now if they were to use a Ferrari engine and win a race the lime light may shift.

Everybody is talking about Mercedes engine and how it will be the best.
There have been very little talk about Ferrari engine! Are we behind the schedule, in what stage of developmet it is and is it possible that after all the disappointments we have seen in last few years 2014 will be the worst one?

    Any thinking?
It was also said that the Mercedes F1 would be the best, remember?

Well there's a surprise, I suggested this ages ago and it makes a lot of sense, newish team and drivers, just what Ferrari need to help engine development. Maybe we get to have Jules too, and what about Max as the next Mike Hawthorne?! Stranger things have happened and best of luck with the partnership!

Brawn expecting many engine failures in 2014
Ross Brawn: "We will go back to a time such as 20 years ago."
Brawn expecting many engine failures in 2014

Jul.16 (GMM) Ross Brawn is expecting the 2014 season to be characterised by failures.
After years of engine regulation stability, the sport is undergoing an enormous technical shakeup at present ahead of next year's radical switch to turbo V6 power.
"We will go back to a time such as 20 years ago," Mercedes team boss Brawn is quoted by Auto Motor und Sport.
"The technology is so complex that I expect a lot of failures. So there will be a new element of surprise," he predicted.
Brawn said the challenge will be intensified yet further by the tightening of F1's long-life engine rules, with each driver to be allocated just 5 units next year, rather than 8 at present.
"And the failures will be not just the engines, but the individual components," he said.
For instance, if turbochargers or batteries fail next year, replacing the component will attract the same penalty of a ten-place grid demotion, once the drivers' engine allocation has run out.

So stupid that they are implementing only 5 units permitted for the first year!!! Expect 10 place grid peneltys left right and centre! I can remember back a few years ago when our engine had a fault with it and we were permitted to change it mid season...disclosing the design obviously...think well see the case next year!

Why does our engine look so much more compact? Does the illustration not bear all the parts?

I hope the compact design is not an aggressive design solution that affects reliability. But looking good so far.

Formula 1's smallest team Marussia have confirmed that Ferrari will supply their new V6 engines from next season.
The Banbury-based team, with a best result this season of 13th in Malaysia,
will join Sauber as a Ferrari customer.

The deal will end Marussia's association with Cosworth, who will stop being a F1 engine supplier.

Marussia chief executive officer Andy Webb said: "The importance of this development to our team cannot be overstated."Ferrari will also supply Marussia with gearboxes and other technical systems.

Formula 1 cars are to change from 2.4-litre V8 engines to more efficient 1.6-litre turbo-charged V6s from next season to conform to the new engine regulations.

"Not only will we benefit from a customer supply from the most successful engine manufacturer in Formula One's history, but this also provides further confirmation, if it were needed, of our commitment to the sport and determination to maintain our progression towards our long-term ambitions."

I bet those huge exhaust "wings" make Adrian Newey nervous, especially if the Ferrari lacks them. I mean, that would make the RB10 wide as hell - it would kill the coke bottle area.
