It was a gamble that couldve worked.
I expected Alonso to pit much later than he did 1st stop. I thought 4 sure he could string together another 5 laps
of blazing speed b4 that 1st stop. He didnt...why...Is it the same old thing w/tires, or is there a problem w/the car?
Anyway, I thought our strategy went up in smoke when I saw him pit early.
We are back in development mabey because the last one didnt work, revert, puts us behind, and u could see that today as the
car lacked speed. It was simply kinda slow.
Massa, he has been driving really well of late, better starts than FA, Qing right there or better than FA, yet he always appears to break.
The car snapped and its done that b4. Whats the problem there? Either the car has a problem or one of the updates went sideways...like the car.
Im not too sure Massa getting sacked is the answer and I think, as mentioned, he is driving better now than since b4 his accident.
Then the end? I really kept waiting for FA to start burning up the track and did think at 1 point that 2nd was doable, but u could see
he simply didnt have the speed to really make any sort of dent for podium.
Tires..Its weird..its like the cars can do like 3 or 4 burning laps then the cars get sort of...slow...everyone except Vettel.
Lotus gets close, yet just when u think they can pass, they sort of just sit there..Merc? Basically, all they did was take up the pole and become a moving chicane.
U can say what u want about RB/Vettel, but they r controlling the races, if they dont win they r close.
I remember awhile back that Ferrari went to a different nose, and at the same time RB went to a nose similar to what Ferrari had...or something...
Seems like since then we got a bit slower. Is the F138 at the end of development already? Or is it simply a matter of tires? Hard to tell 4sure,
but at this point of the season we are losing ground instead of pouring it on and getting both cars up there.
On to the next race, and as always, I hope for better results and some excitement. Car development is 1 thing, but these
tires really help make the races boring. If Ferrari wasnt in F1, Im not sure Id watch at all.
Rob - are there any link to Rory helping on 2014 project
I have a feeling that we should give up on 2013 season.
We should rather fully put all our resources for 2014....I mean money, resources, wind tunnel, technical experts(like Mercs) and whatever is needed to slaughter bulls.
We just have to capitalise on the rule change in 2014 and not ruin alonso's carrer....because if 2014 onwards does not work for him .,,his carrer is almost over.
Note: I am not being sarcastic ...just a thought.
Good results on a Sunday that could be worst.
Starting from 7th and 8th was already an uphill task.
I think Ferrari and Fernando would have signed on 4th if they knew that was the results to be.
Pity for Massa, he had a great start. Not sure what happen when he suddenly lost it going into a right turn.
Our pace is really off, Mercedes took a step back too on race pace.
Maranello needs to work triple time in the coming weeks, we started the season off not too bad, we are falling back and Lotus looks pretty strong as well.
Ricciardo will prob get the seat and play second fiddle to Fingers but who cares....
Lets hope in the coming weeks, we find some speed... happy summer!
A lot of talk about giving up and doing the 2014 car...
This is Ferrari..we never give up..
I think we can win a few more races this year..we'll do 2014 in 2014.
Well I think the extra money can be used, all LDM has to do,is go on a helicopter and shower all the whinning fans whenever there is a bad result, just to calm them down!!! Maybe that would help:)
Ok on a serious note, money does not transform to performance, similarly just cuz there is a budget, doesn't mean you can buy any genius you want! Trust me if that was possible,Ferrari would have done it by now! The team is doing everything humanly possible to turn things around, that I have no doubt!! If it's not good enough, well then let's hope changes in 2014 would turn things around in our favor!
I can't understand how some people think that even 2014 would be a disaster, for gods sake it hasn't started yet!!
It will be a huge challenge, but Ferrari will still fight until it's totally impossible. We never know how things will turn out if we don't try.
Of course since next year is a huge change, I'm afraid Ferrari as well as other teams will stop developing for 2013 early if the gap grows too big. So we need to take points away from Vettel before we finish the European races.
As we've seen many times with Pirelli tires, (I think Sky mentioned too) the trend now is you want to get on new tires earlier in order to undercut the driver ahead because of how quickly the tires drop off in pace, new tires will always be faster so once you get on the new tires, your will be quickly closing the gap irrespective of whether the drivers ahead has soft or hard tires.
The moment the guys ahead pit, their new mediums are faster than Alonso mediums so staying out is bad, rather than good. This is why I wasn't really a fan of the strategy of sacrificing qualifying to start on mediums.
Rory is just a consultant to the development team. And remember, the dream team was Byrne, Brown, Martinelli, building the car and Schumi feeding information to them under the brilliant management of Todt. And it took them quite some seasons before building the winning car of 2000-2004.
Byrne is a genius as Newey but he is almost 70 now and sure he can't do it alone and the present talent in Ferrari are hardly to his expectations, let alone the team director.
Not directly but surely indirectly.
If Ferrari can't build a car that can get outright poles then Alonso can also not do a Valencia 2012 every weekend.
I agree that no driver is bigger than the team but without a good car we cant see a WDC coming.
Also time is running out ,atleast for alonso.
What's done is done. Now Ferrari should put their heads down & work extra hard to get the fight back on track. We lost Britain development race to other teams but still long way to go, 2010 & 2012 are proofs that we can fight till the very end, just hope we do take the final step come Brazil.

F1 these days are all down to the tyres.
Hate to say this but F1 has turned into a tyre poker sport.
So far, RB and Lotus are doing well because their cars have a wider band of tyre tolerance. They are easy on tyre usage.
Never have I seen tyres exploding in F1, just simply disgraceful for the sport and Pirelli.
F1 is supposed to be the pinnacle of Motorsport racing, not some silly circus for tyre manufacturers making it more exciting for viewers.
Those chunks of rubber flying off tyres causing pebbles offline isn't something nice either...
F1 needs to rethink this out long term...
Haha I was just thinking about this. Alonso has been with us for what, 5 yrs now? I'm starting to feel sorry for him. The man is not getting any younger and we're really wasting his talent. Or rather, he's wasting his talent on us. I would consider it wise for him to take Webber's seat while we try and rediscover ourselves.
Forza Ferrari
"And regardless of what else you put on, wear love. It's your basic, all-purpose garment. Never be without it."
Very difficult race for us. The sc helped us otherwise thetime gap to the leaders would have been worse. We are now the 3rd fastest team in race pace when we started the year the fastest. Other teams have moved forwards while we have been moving sideways. We'll be extremely lucky to win either championships with the current car. Yes it may improve but it may be too late by then and the points gap is growing. We need a few retirements from Vettel to win and even then we are not safe as Kimi is in a strong position. Ferrari are probably strongly considering focussing on the 2014 car as realistically we cannot win with this one.
30k fine for Red Bull, that will teach them a lesson![]()
