    WCC or WDC

Which do you consider is more important to Ferrari racing??

In all the years I have supported Ferrari they have made it clear the WCC is the title they want.

WCC is the one that earns the money so we can race next year, WDC does not bring money to the team.

WCC is the title that brings fame to the brand and spins off in marketing terms, I will concede that a good front man ie the drivers helps a bit.

WDC only earns the driver more sponsorship which helps his income and status within the sport.

It should be remembered drivers come and go and are not as permanent as the brand itself.

Take a look at the records since 1953 Ferrari have won more WCC's than WDC's ( I meant to look this up to get the exact numbers so far ) maybe there is a stats nerd out there who will beat me to it

Please feel free to make your comments.
Its all in the name - FERRARI

For the team WCC, WDC nice bonus
For drivers WDC, WCC nice bonus
For fans WDC, I think others than Ferrari fans hardly notice WCC

    Eddie Irvine 1996-1999 4 wins WDC best 2nd 1xWCC

The WCC is definitely more important and prestigious - this becomes clearer as people develop into genuine F1 aficionados.
That doesn't mean that the WDC isn't important or prestigious - it is, and it is very important to Ferrari.
Where I think a lot of people here get it wrong, is the belief that the WDC is exclusively to the benefit of the driver. For me it is firstly a team thing then a driver thing. That may seem a little paradoxical, but when you think about it, no driver can win without a team and car first.
What all this means is that no driver, whether it is for the benefit of the WCC or WDC should put themselves first - success can only come when the team is always placed first. This maxim is true in every team sport and F1 is no exception.
IMHO a champion team will always beat a team of champions

WCC is more important. This year we want the WDC, because we know we have a better chance of getting it.

A few points i disagree with

Ferrari do not need the money prize, if that's what you was referring to. Our budget is way bigger.

WDC is more prestigious than WCC, hence its actually the bigger attraction of sponsorship. Most people will be more attracted to which driver won the title, the general laymen out there. Headlines always reads which driver took the crown, and somewhere in the article you can find info on which team WCC. All these just goes to show that WDC generally have more attention from the public.

And it is the public that sponsorship targets, not a few hardcore team supporter. When Santander decide about sponsoring Ferrari, they don't just think about what Renault fan they will lose, and what Ferrari fan they will gain. But the bigger fish here is Alonso, the Alonso fan who will following him to Ferrari, that's why they are willing to leave Renault, and follow Alonso aboard.

Keep in mind that the number of casual viewers are far greater than some hardcore fans.

We may think within our circle of tifosi or F1 die hard fans, but sponsorship goes beyond that, they have to take into account the laymen out there who can't recognize what team is what car. they only thing they care about is the driver who won that race they watch.

I think it depends on the curcumstances of the time as to which Ferrari would prefer. I personally believe that in 1999 they would have preferred the WDC to the WCC for example.

They don't need the Kudos or the money. They do it to beat the other teams in the most visual and satisfactory way possible I think.

Fact is that F1 fans tend to love teams AND drivers whereas the non F1-loving viewing public prefer drivers because that's what the sport and media sells them and more people can relate to drivers than teams imo, especially when only 1 driver can win a race.

That's why TO's go down so badly sometimes.

    Both.

I believe that the driver that wins the WDC will also have the team that could and should be able to secure the WCC.

And as a member of the Tifosi i expect both every year. I want the #1 on a Scarlet Car.

The WCC is much more important, but what people want to see is a human being becoming champion. So for most F1 fans I think the WDC is what they are more focussed at.

At this point I'd settle for either one.

WDC for me, WCC should come along with it though as someone already said. Winning the WDC is still very much a team effort.

I would gladly swap the 99 WCC to make Irvine WDC, same in 2008 for Massa to be WDC.

Points may reflect the best car for that season on the grid but the notion that points gained over a year reflect who was the best driver in that year is a weak joke.
I don't know when the best car didn't award the best driver in a season the world championship, perhaps we could think about that, but in the past 5 years, and I have no quarrel personally (well, not much) with the drivers who have won the WDC since 2009, but on more than one occasion the team managers have expressed another , informed, opinion altogether.
Is the points decided WDC worth anything? If not, should it be dropped altogether or the method of selecting the best driver, not the one who has accumulated the most race points, given a re-think?
